Imagine if Richard Linklater had AI Warp at his disposal when he was making “Waking Life” or “A Scanner Darkly.” There’s definitely value in where these AI tools are taking us, and the possibilities that they open up to indie filmmakers with imaginations that are bigger than their budgets. Yet another company jumping on the fake "AI" marketing hype. None of this is "AI" by any means. It's simply software processing video. Been around for a decade. Just more jumping on the marketing wagon. Plus, that form of editing looks cool once... once. Now I'm off to check the bread in my AI toaster.
Someone will always find something to complain about. That AI chip is not just for editing. It’s doing real time noise reduction in low light among many other things. The results speak for themselves as compared to other action cams.

As i'm in the marked for a new action cam and my work is focused on FPV, would you recommend upgrading to the gopro hero 12 or switch over to the ace pro? I focus on high quality and cinematic videos for my clients that are mixed with sony cameras like the a7siii.

Any chance you could check the LRV files and let us know the resolution and frame rate? Most importantly, does the LRV frame rate match the frame rate of the main video file? On previous insta360 cameras the LRV files have a lower frame rate (14.98fps) which makes them useless for using as proxy files for editing. Gopro & DJI cameras use a matching frame rate for their LRV files, so they can be used as proxies for editing. To check the frame rate & resolution you just need to rename the LRV file from .lrv to .mp4 and then it will work like a normal video file. Thanks in advance!
Matti, I like the HDR look myself (more dynamic range in HDR) without looking weird. Especially, with action sports outside. Personally, just like the look.

The flip-up screen on an action camera? Not for me. If I need one for vlogging or similar purposes, the Osmo Pocket 3 is the best choice. I still favor the Osmo Action 4 for its price, battery life, usability, bundled packs like the adventure combo, superior waterproofing (18m on OA4 vs. 10m on Ace Pro), and image quality, which is on par or even better in some instances with the same sensor size. The AI features on Ace Pro didn't impress me much, I also trust DJI updating firmwares and adding similar AI software features to the OA4. However, I am excited and keeping an eye out for the Insta360 One X4, which might come with a better sensor (1/1.3 inch) similar to the Ace Pro, higher resolution 360 video, and other exciting features.
TBF I thought the Graphics were a Human Video Co template!! That's nuts that it can do that in the app. Hopefully we see more fun things from the Legacy companies in their apps and software. I find Sony's is still so far behind, and GoPro's has become more of a file manager and quick editor. Either way, this is a pretty cool update from INSTA360, so it's sweet to see fun updates to keep the market interesting!
Great innovative new *small* features but missing a lot of what is standard on other actions cams it competes with... where is 10 bit? where is LOG profile? where are removable lens covers? every camera has a small area where it is best but as an overall package the DJI Action 4 I still think is the best of this years action cams (and has the same low light sensor as this camera, they both crush GoPro Hero 12)... I'm thrilled to see Insta360 join the fight in this segment and it only means all these cams should get better and faster because of the competition.
When using the AI software, can you make the software use one consistent style so it doesn't keep randomizing the art every few seconds? Example in sci-fi art make it keep the same cyberpunk hand and arm and not keep altering the design of the hand and arm every 4 seconds
I was kind of hoping they were going to be getting some depth map information with this. It’s clearly processing like an iPhone does. Would be cool if it had a sensor for depth, so you can add / adjust a fake but realistic Bokeh.

If you were using it to control the scene directly, making actual decisions about the environment and alterations, it would be a tool. But unlike a camera where you are composing a shot, staging lighting, or selecting colors and grading, you aren't actually making any of those decisions. AI art is so out of the actual control of a person (and steals so much from actual artists) that lawmakers are saying those works cant be copyrighted, and storefronts are actively banning stuff. Maybe someday it can be used in conjunction with an actual artist to help them do bigger and better things. Right now, it's stealing someone's art for a gimmicky everchanging rush of images that when frozen look awful.
It’s nice to see insta360 trying to bring innovative features to dedicated cameras. In regards to AI, we need repeatable results to be truly usable. In the real world, people and their surroundings do not constantly morph. Until this is fixed I feel “AI” will remain just a gimmick for effects in video. That said, great video!
From what Matt shot and edited the AI filters look decent and this camera and app software is more of a time saving/convenience feature. For the serious film makers, becareful using AI in your works because as of now it’s not even possible to trademark and own your works if AI is used on it.
The AI app needs to give the video generated more consistency its flickering like crazy and the picture changes waaaaay too much. this needs to be addressed ASAP!
2024 is going to be a very competitive interesting year for all 3 cameras. I think now that there is 3 brands all 3 will be pushing hard. We will see a huge jump and changes to the models,Especially gopro. To bad I need a camera now lol.
I work in CGI Advertising, the AI, to me isn't the end result. Looking at how it worked with your footage got me thinking. It utilises the shapes and forms in your frame, this could be great for designing environments and iterating on ideas with a camera to be created in CG later on.

To me it looks like a pretty poor image that would fall apart pretty quickly in post - then making up for it with some cheesy AI bumpf thrown in to boost the marketing effort.
One thing that kills me with Insta360 in general is they are still working with 8bit color

Let's clarify: some of these AI tools are not available on-board or standalone with the camera. The app does it!
