in my country, chicken lollipops were such crowd pleasers. it never occured to me they were wings lol
They can also be made with legs (drumsticks)
@@TristanBehrens yep, it's the only way i'll prepare drumsticks.
It's big in children parties in my country, too.
I've actually never heard of wing lollipops. I've only ever seen the drumstick kind
@@raerohan4241 Chicken lollipops are *not* made with drumsticks. They are made with a part of the wing called the "drumette".
You should try Maangchi’s fried chicken recipe. The one with the gochujang/ketchup/honey sauce. That was the best I have EVER had!
Yes! I’ve been making her recipe for years. So good.
Best. Chicken. Ever.
She also has one with a similar soy sauce and chili glaze ! Suuuuuuper delicious
Lollipop chicken is only worth it when you keep the bone part clean. That’s the only appeal to it. If you’re making chicken wings it’s stupid to lollipop it because you’re just gonna coat the clean part in sauce. Chicken wings when cooked like that are messy, no way to go about that.
exactly, it's a natural handle
Maybe if you were only dipping them in the sauce, rather than tossing?
@@oldvlognewtricks. That is possible, but for the most part, chicken wings are known to be covered in a sauce and eaten like that. A hands on messy meal for games or for drinking.
Bone parts are generally wrapped in aluminium foil to keep our fingers clean
@@dr.health1688 Seems like this recipe is kinda going for something more fussy… Maybe Gordon fell between two stools in the execution
Lollipop wings are super common in some countries. Surprised you haven't encountered them in an Asian restaurant
David: bleeps himself saying s**t
Also David: doesn’t bleep Gordon Ramsay at all
One does not censor Gordon Ramsay
You should do a recipe from Chinese Cooking Demystified sometime. They've done a couple of chicken wings recipes =)
Or souped up recipes!!
Definitely this.
I love CCD. Sometimes I watch it with my partner and she gives some commentary, it's a fun time.
What a great suggestion. I’d love to see this.
He'd have to go get the ingredients from China considering knowingly how complex they make their recipes. 😒
I do Kenji Lopez-Alt's dry brine oven wing method and Food Wishes honey sriracha sauce. The wings are super crispy even as leftovers and the sauce is a great combination of spicy, sweet, and nutty.
Oooo I *HAVE to try that!
I was sad to see Ramsay and not Kenji
Yeah I use Kenji's technique. Its good, but I end up pulling my wings too early I think.
Kenji’s technique is my go to! Then we toss with our own sauces ☺️
The best ones on RUclips are easily the Korean wings from America’s Test Kitchen. Been making them for years. Nothing beats that fry method and batter
Americas Test Kitchen are amazing folks! I love how they show the science behind food too. Levelled up my cooking game for sure
The way I had to replay 6:20 a couple times to be sure I heard correctly
No more Rie’s recipes and Tasty’s ultimate chocolate cake in your “I tested series”. I watched enough of your videos, easily able to tell who’s going to win when Rie or ultimate chocolate cake show up.😂
You should have tried J Kenji Lopez Alt's "Best Buffalo Wings" (the fried ones, not the oven ones) quite literally the crispiest best wings I've ever had
Halal Chef's Wings are the best! The sauce was runny, he should have let it cooked for few more minutes.
Biggest wing life hack when baking wings is to throw them back in on broiler after they have been coated with the sauce. This will get them crispy and allow sauce to stick on em. If this was done with wing #3, for example, as the final step would have been perfect. Tender and juicy inside and crispy outside with just another 1-2 min of cooking on broiler mode.
I have used Chef John's technique for years now. I like my own wings better than anything in any shop or restaurant. Everyone who has had my wings agree.
hes so great isnt he?
Love me some Chef John!
Because you are the Elden Ring, of your chicken wing
Rice flour or corn starch is what i grew up with making wings, its so cool/weird to see so many different ways to fry chicken~
Totally disappointed that you didn't do a Maangchi recipe! 😊
Chef John is always the OG. What he does is to TEACH the techniques. Rie's saue? Super. Chef John's wing cooking technique? Even better.
@Chris Mike hahaha it definitely takes a bit to get used to! It irritated me at first as well
@Chris Mike He combines speech takes which is why his voice is like that. Become a member of his channel and you will hear his true voice in the live chats he does twice a week
@Chris Mike I actually love it! Its a part of his charm
@Chris Mike haha that's actually my favourite part of his videos! To each their own
I would probably just bake them like chef John's and make Rie's sauce
Why not? The fun part of cooking is testing and experimenting new things
Baked wing is less messy and easier to clean afterwards. Rie skill is just as good as a pro chef so no doubt her sauce is full of flavours.
Halal Chef's Wings are the best! The sauce was runny, he should have let it cooked for few more minutes.
I make Chef John’s all the time! But with a buffalo sauce instead. They are so so good and I get compliments on them every time! They reheat super well in the air fryer ☺️
“Looks like a weird crab dripping motor oil. It could look worse I guess” 😂😂😂
An air fryer is an oven. You could cook the wings there too. I always cook wings in an air fryer.
For absolutely classic but easy wings Alton Brown has to beat them all with his oven wings. crispier than crisp and delicious with a little garlic thrown in.
I'm guessing the Tebasaki will come out on top.
Since I'm from Buffalo, that recipe will get serious scrutiny ... If it's not served with Blue Cheese dressing, it's dead to me. 😁
That doesn't sound like a frat party, that sounds like...something else.
Thats what he was implying lmao two people getting it on at a frat party
I'm just gonna comment how much I thank David for testing all these recipes so I don't have to :D I was kinda skeptical about Tasty's brownies and which version is better so instead of testing them I just went over to David's channel XD
Surprised no Korean style wings. Also surprised no one brushed the sauce on the wings instead of tossing to retain crunch
Halal Chef's Wings are the best! The sauce was runny, he should have let it cooked for few more minutes.
Love it! Going to try this :) keep up the good work and thank you for sharing again 🥰
Mmmmmmm great episode! So happy Chef John’s recipe turned out well. I love a good baked chicken wing.
The video was posted 41 minutes ago, your comment is 17 hours old… mmmm sus very sus
@@57abs incredibly sus
@@57abs I think patreons get early access to the videos, like a day ahead
@@potatoesfordays8849 still very sussy mmmmmmmm
@@potatoesfordays8849 what a sussy potato
It's all about double frying with potato starch and flour mixture. Game changer
I somehow wished korean fried chicken was included (maybe a maangchi recipe?) In this showdown
David: 'I don't know where that tang came from...'
*cut back to him dunking them in vinegar*
that was just water!
He mentions vinegar making his cheeks salivate, but then doesn't know where the tang comes from. I have noticed the word tang mean different things to different people. 🤷♀️
Didn't expect to be able to premiere videos just thanks to Twitter and Instagram daaaamn!
You should bring in some of "The Wolfe Pit's" recipes at some point.
I definitely came in ready to *fight* for Chef John ❤ Glad you liked the wings! J. Kenji López-Alt uses a similar baking powder method, and I’ve made both many times. The baking powder itself adds to the extra saltiness, so depending on how many wings you use or the actual size of the wings I’ve had to adjust the salt waaaaaaay down.
They all looked sooo good!
My blind prediction is Rie's wings. She's always a solid bet.
Halal Chef's Wings are the best! The sauce was runny, he should have let it cooked for few more minutes.
I love these videos, its like i can watch a 5in1. Great content David!!!!!!
it's strange. David says about people being afraid of deep frying things. My mother - that was all she did (I realize now not good). It never occurred to me to be afraid of a giant pot of hot oil, but I never worried about it. I don't deep fried much now but it's never bothered me to do so.
Well, afraid is liberally used. Its not only about being afraid of hot oil, but what to do with the oil once finished and how it can stink up a house. Its just not very pleasant, and often you can get more than good enough results pan-frying.
@@Jaigarful most people don’t even fry in the house so that’s a non issue
Rie is a QUEEN! I love her at A.T.E I love watching her make things. Her series about elevating food is. *chef kiss*
I have the same exact Misen Dutch oven with grill pan lid. Even the same color! I love it!!
Just out of curiosity: In which order do you do the recording, the tasting and the voiceover for the cooking part? Cause you referenced the voiceover in the tasting part but it also seems like you do the tasting right after the cooking, so I was just wondering when the voiceover happens
I was also wondering this while watching
He likely is saying stuff whilst cooking, but then makes a script/does the voiceover after tasting when he’s editing the clips all together
Tebasaki (aside from maybe the potato starch,) I think is the most classic way of cooking wings. Just do that, then for a sauce, melt some butter with a splash of the fry oil, and a bunch of Frank's Redhot, and you have the classic Buffalo wing.
Now I'm hungry.
They all look fantastic....YUM
You should have done joshua’s lemon pepper or his other asian ones!!
recommendation: desserts or sweet things like churros, donuts, jelly stuffed pastries, waffles
Or ... corn dogs, quiche, pizza-related items
i was genuinely going to comment which one i thought would win but something about fried bird arms on the sscoreboard took me out
you're one of my favorite youtubers fr
I've made Chef John's honey Sriracha wings before and loved it. It's so simple and I love the mix of sweetness and a little bit of spice.
I love seeing that you’ve uploaded because it always means it’s Friday 🎉
Rooting for Food Wishes simply because I love the channel :D
Chef John super fan here. He's been my go-to for years. Having said that, I love your channel and have added it to my favorites. So I guess I'm your super fan, also! Keep up the great work. Peace!
A Gordon Ramsay recipe: simple and no touch of olive oil
Me: *...impossible*
Meanwhile the olive groves: Phew!
Awesome video as always 😊
am i hearing 6:20 correctly??? 😱 lmfao
Omg David, you made a chef john recipe without any.... cayenne?!?!
Gonna regret watching cause i always crave chicken wings but ofc gotta support david and know which wings are best djdjdj
Kenji also uses a similair recipe to chef john, he uses 1 teapoon each of salt, corn starch and baking powder per pound of chicken wings
Day 1026: David still got me drooling over the food he makes
They look so delicious! 😍 Maybe you could rank your TOP 10 recipes of all time? Would be great!
When plating lay some sauce down as a base it'll also act as the glue for something oily and greasy to stand up right 👍
I love Chef John's wing method. I go the J. Kenji Lopez-Alt route and add some corn starch for a bit of extra crispiness, though. They turn out so good. Fork don't lie.
Rie's wings look incredible. I gotta get some potato starch and give those a try.
It's 4:33 am, I should go to sleep but this is way more fun
I bought 2 of the large Misen frying pans and they’re pretty awesome. May have to try the Dutch oven too, bc who doesn’t like a discount?
ty for the link
I don't even like wings but I had to watch😄 Really love your content!
Thanks for all the prep & cooking you do
Hi David,
I have done Chef Johns wings several times and they never disappoint.
Love me some Chef John.
Okay so I made Kenji's baked wings a while ago, and it's very similar to Chef John's wings. You mix salt, baking powder, and corn starch and let that coat the wings to keep them crispy in the oven.
I followed the directions and used kosher salt as directed, but they were also WAY too salty! Like it's all I could taste after. Maybe my kosher salt was finer/less consistent than the salt they used, but I can confirm your findings!
Maangchi wings next time please!!!! She might be the best
Since I got an airfryer and tried a couple method I must admit you can get something really crispy and delicious without deep frying. They're so damn delicious and so easy to make. I try to avoid frying when I can, so the air fryer comes in really handy :)
I may have said this before, but that outro song is just perfect. I may have searched it up on spotify so I could vibe longer...
I might have to figure where to buy a some good unseasoned and not breaded vegetarian chicken wings so I can try Rei's recipe myself
or alternatively learn how to make seitan so I can shape it into chicken wings
The thing is that chicken skin is mostly fat content, the bird has really lean meat so all the fat content ends up there. By baking them with a dry rub they render lots of fat slowly and the skin dries beautifully and becomes quite crispy.
You should do an episode on Airfryer recipes!
Dang was hoping he’d do lemon pepper
can I ask where you got those bowls? my sister has a set, and I'm in love with then
Chef John is like a food legend
John? Legend?
Hahaha, nice 👍🏽
I feel so cool watching this video early lol
Bbq place near me does slow smoked wings with hickory/pecan , they are one of the best foods ever.
More Food Wishes! I watched so many of his videos over the years and he's always left out of things like this.
On Chicken Lollipops- I think it actually can make the meat more tender, since at high heat the meat can't seize the same way against the tendons. The tenderness you commented on is because of this pre-dressing. It's a way to make less expensive meat taste more expensive.
I’ve found that the Morton coarse kosher salt is super potent. Definitely cut back on it
Chef John’s are my go to. Every year at the big game my family begs me to make them
I knew Rie would win before even watching the video you can tell just by the way it looks
You need to try maangchi Korean fried chicken wings! Korean fried chicken is the best!
I do chicken wings in a glaze of soy sauce, Siracha, honey, and cornflour (to thicken) and they are delicious
If you do a orange chicken verson just swap the siracha for orange juice
You have to double fry the Asian wings 325 for 6/8 minutes remove rest while oil is heated to 375 to finish
Shoving the meat up the ends!!! Gordon what the hell?!?! 😂😂😂😂
Not sure if anyone commented this yet, but it looked like you were using regular baking powder for the third recipe. You should try aluminum free baking powder. The aluminum in the baking powder gives it a weird taste especially when you use a lot of it on the wings which it sounds like you tasted in your review.
David, you should make karaage!
My favourite is Maangchi's korean crispy wings... sweet, spicy and so so crispy.
Honestly, I started making our chicken wings in the air fryer and I'll never go back. It's so easy. And you save a few calories because you're not adding any extra fat.
Okay but just use the oven you already have
@@ploppyjr2373 The air fryer uses half the energy, gets things crispier, and doesn't heat up my whole apartment in summer. So yeah, I'll stick with my air fryer for wings.
You missed out on the best wing recipe, Maangchi’s
when rie is on the video, i'm
biased 🤣 i just love her soooo much
U should include a Quang Tran recipe next time he's amazing 👏🏻
Maangchi's honey butter chicken
I like to just by some fried drumsticks from my nearest store and pop them in the air fryer at 400 and while they're cooking I mix a couple tbsp butter and garlic in a small pan and let it heat a bit so the garlic gets infused. Then I add some chili garlic sauce from the same company that makes Sriracha..it's way better than Sriracha! The company that makes it is Huy Fong and it's just called chilli garlic sauce!
Anyways, I put some of that in the butter garlic mix, add some salt and pepper and then I add the honey and splash of lemon juice. Heat it so everything combines, stirring constantly.
Then I add the chicken directly into the pan, and I use a silicone baster to move the honey sauce on the chicken so it gets coated everywhere. Then I put the fried chicken into a bowl or on a plate and then tilt the pan to cover the chicken in the sauce. It's so good and fast and simple! Try it out! Add whatever you'd like, like sesame oil/seeds or thinly sliced green onion.
A suggestion for a future video is an Osso Buco comparison.
You have to try making korean style fried chicken.
Definitely need to revisit this with America’s Test Kitchen (Dan) recipe. He makes the crispiest wings and they are the best ever. Promise you.
6:19 is everything for me in this video.
I make Rie’s wings all the time…THEY’RE AMAZING! 🤤
Given how popular Korean fried chicken has became recently, I'd love to see you compare some recipes for it!
Chef John’s are my goto wings. Easy and delicious!
10pm here and im craving for wings. Dammnnnn
