- Common Mistake when doing repair! MAKE SURE BATTERY DISCONNECTED KEEP READING
"I made this mistake too when installing a new clock spring. Park the car with the tires centered (tires will center themselves when driving in a straight line with hands off the wheel if your car is properly aligned), remove the steering wheel, and then place it back on again centered. You'll want to get the bolts and steering wheel loose prior to doing this so that removal and installation of the wheel doesn't turn the wheel. You can do all of this and test it with the airbag removed - the car will just throw a few codes when you do this. After you get everything put back together, just clear the codes.
Be sure to follow proper safety procedures when removing and installing the airbag (12V disconnected, etc)."
"... be sure, when you're setting the wheel in place, that you are doing it delicately enough to feel when the splines on the shaft mesh with those in the wheel. They are very fine splines, I'm not sure how far apart, a few degrees maybe. You are looking to get the wheel meshed with the shaft splines in the position closest to perfectly centered.
If you try to tighten down the wheel at a position where the splines aren't meshed, or if you forget and turn the wheel on the shaft before it is meshed with the splines and properly tightened, it is possible to flatten the splines in the shaft and the wheel ... which would require replacing both before you could have a safely secure mounting again."

Just made this same repair on my '09 Prius yesterday.
My '05 was a T30 for the horn/airbag bolts. Only the audio buttons and cruise worked. No horn and no climate controls. Climate controls and touch screen started to cycle randomly as though someone were randomly pushing buttons. Super cheap clock spring off ebay fixed things. So cheap I don't expect it to last, but it was a super fast repair. Thanks for the concise vid!
How's the super cheap clock spring working now?
@@jafinch78 about six months. Got a less cheap one from rockauto. So far, so good.
Good video. I like that you show the tools needed all together like that. Other videos didn't specify sizes and stuff. It would've been more helpful if you included video of removing those metal clips on the sides you mentioned and also video of you marking with the Sharpie to keep the wheel aligned. Thanks!
Link for the clock spring??
Do you know what I can do if my cruse control and my honk don’t work? Should I change the clock spindle? Please let me know if you can help thank you!
Today I changed camry 2008 clock spring as my horn and cruise control was not working. Now both working well. But unfortunately air bag's symbol is still showing
Thanks @everybody's.brother. Mine front and rear defroster and air circulation mode buttons are not working. I'll try and comment back. I'm surprised why removing and putting starring wheel solved the issue.
