I love when I click on a video and it is exactly what I need and very well explained. It's oddly satisfying to seek the internet for help and the internet come in clutch for you. Needles to say, but thankyou!
Great job on the diagnosis. I like the magnetic wire holding vise. Also, it's the first time I hear about paste bond. I think I'll buy some. It's certainly much faster than soldering.
Nice diagnosis. I especially liked the vice for holding the wires for soldering. My only concern is the location of the air bag during the repair. For safety sake, I would disconnect the air bag and place aside with the appropriate side facing up.
Great video as always. If I would do the same repair, I would have to try to repair the existing wire instead of purchasing a new wire. The other thing is the soldering paste you used is a regular product used for surface mount PCBs for years. Thanks for upload. Regards,
Other sources say to disconnect battery when working on airbag:the soldering was messy;should have put something underneath to catch the drips which otherwise might damage some surface
So you joined a red wire to a yellow wire, as you said, all the airbag wiring is yellow, Now everytime you hit the horn your airbag will activate, simple:)
Another way to test the circuit without using the button, is to lock the car multiple times. this will cause the BCM to turn on the horn. When dealing with ANYTHING that has to do the airbag system, disconnect the battery, and reconnect it electrical circuits need to be tested and airbags are in there place while testing. There was a guy some years ago that died because the airbag went off while he was testings stuff. An you could have just crimped a male spade terminal onto the wire, instead of splicing it.
Thanks for the valuable warning that wires affecting the airbag are Yellow. But why the heck did you keep that spare non-airbag horn contact wire with an all-Yellow wire? You could have covered it with a longer piece of that black shrink tubing. BTW, that *was* a clockspring problem, but luckily did not require a full replacement.
My issue was the turn signal metal pin was stuck and not making contact on the brass rings after I replaced my turn signal switch. I checked the relay and the horn fuse. They were good. After I took apart the steering wheel and the airbag assembly. I used the horn switch to test a 12v headlight to verify that switch was still good then I tested the horn function with another switch. After all that was good I came to conclusion that it was the turn signal switch that was faulty. Returned the faulty one and got a brand new one. problem fixed 😀😀
I have a 1995 Ford Escort Gt and I had the clock spring replaced because it went bad. Shortly after I noticed that the horn on the left side was not working. The one on the right works but not the left. Does that sound like a loose wire? Great video. Thanks.
SRS wiring on the 93-02 Mazda 626 is fluorescent orange and florescent blue. You show fluorescent yellow. Perhaps it's better to say that airbag wiring usually has a fluorescent colored jacket? The colors really stand out from normal wiring.
I have an 06 mustang and the airbag light is on and the horn doesn't work and the cruise doesn't work getting code 52 and replaced the clockspring and didn't fix it.any advice on what it could be or how to go about fixing it?
2004 bmw 330 xi suddenly horn stopped working radio on off when visor lights pulled down air bag off. BMW said it Clock spring and ignition switch is that the likely problem One or both?. also a new airbag got installed about 1 year ago on the steering wheel .
My problem is that the horn will go off randomly when I drive and while I'm park. I replaced the clock ring in my dodge avenger and the horn still goes off. Everything I looked up would tell it was a problem with the clock ring. Didn't work.
BILL??? Several ppl want to know about that portable wire holding tool. I thought I had every tool imaginable... Please tell us what it is n where u got it???
I have that same car and I have already removed the two covers but I can not find any screws in the hole under the airbag .... When I insert the screwdriver I only feel cables .... Someone to help me if there is any specific movement inside. I need to check the contact of the horn because it is direct and I have to remove the relay because it is direct ... Someone to help me with that thanks!
Yes, most likely. The fact that the horn will work when you hit the alarm means the entire horn and wiring to the horn are good. There are two switches that make the horn work. One is the button on the steering wheel which involves the clock spring. The other is the alarm which actually is the engine computer making the horn work. So, yes, take a look into the clock spring.
No codes to read. Everything else is normal, except I need the trans rebuilt. I checked the codes counting the check engine light, also with a OBD1 code reader and with a DRBII code reader. For a while I had a check guages light momentarily. Check engine light isn't coming on for anything. Chrysler dealer didn't know either. Eventually maybe I'll change the clock spring, but too many things going on right now. Somebody thre a rock thru the back window.
Opps, I was thinking OBD II. Well I did find this for your year, make and model: Triggered by a short in the rear wiper motor/circuit (which causes a fuse to blow), the airbag warning light can illuminate erroneously. Problem Data RepairPal Verified 6 model years affected: 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993 You've probably already checked the fuse but interesting nonetheless.
There is an air bag recall for your vehicle too. 1993-1995Plymouth Grand Voyager Years: 1993-1995Number Involved: 860,000Dates of Manufacture: March 1993 - March 1995Defect: On certain minivans, an intermittent short circuit in the air bag initiator wire can occur shortly after vehicle startup and could lead to an inadvertent air bag deployment.Remedy: Dealers will perform an electronic diagnostic check. Any short circuits identified in either the driver or passenger side air bag initiator wire circuit will be repaired. Owner notification was expected to begin during June 1999. Owners who do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact Chrysler at 1-800-992-1997.
Thanks for that info. I did check Chrysler for recalls and they said everything was satisfied, but it might say that if it was never brought in. I checked fuses and they are all alright. There is a problem with the rear wiper motor and I'm replacing that, but it's a two wire plug and one wire is always hit. Normal or should I check that out? I did see that in a 3 wire system, one wire was always hot. I've had the dash all apart and re soldered all the connection there, but I may have to take it out again to check the wiper switch and wires.
Where is the best and cheapest place to buy schematics for your vehicles? Also, Scott, nice garage. Another thing, I'm old and electronics aren't my strong point. I Know... it's for me to get a tech. I agree. Note to self. I'm Skeered with anything to do with an airbag. i'm clumsy and old, so I'm not looking to get my head put through my headrest. LOL. Can Realfixesrealfast do something about airbags. I bet you did, and I missed them. Love the channel....See, now I'm ...SuckingupRealBad lol
Lol, GM and their horn problems. My God! How long will it take before they actually realize they have a horn problem for decades? DECADES!!! C'mon GM! We are talking about a horn problem,A HORN!!!! Wtf! Get it together GM.
You have missed the boat, the clock spring is not in the horn system by putting solder on the horn s/w you put pressure on the worn horn plate pushing it down on the turn sig s/w witch has a spring loaded tit that is also worn ( take it off and put a dab of solder on it) as the steering is turned the tit loses contact with the underside of the horn plate
Scanner? What scanner? What's a scanner? Who has one? What do they cost, & where can I buy one? How the heck can you propose a real fix real fast yet leave out any definition of the tool used to diagnose the problem? "Yes ma'am, we found the problem using our scanner. Turns out your tire is only flat on one side, and wouldn't ya know we are having a sale - you only need to replace the bottom of the tire, not the whole tire. So with the Scanner Diagnostic Fee, and the fee for ten quarts of Genuine Mopar Certified Tire Air, the sub-total comes to $666 to fix your tire, plus tax, and the $125 tow-in charge, and a small 20% surcharge for working on Bubba's birthday. If you'll just sign this mechanic's lien we'll get right on it, shouldn't take more than a couple of weeks."
I know it's been a year but thanks for diving right in and not being clickbait.
You are brave enough to work while your battery is active.
That's what I was wondering about
I love when I click on a video and it is exactly what I need and very well explained.

Thanks! I now feel confident to tackle a similar problem I have with a SUZUKI Grande Vitara.
Nice diagnosis. I especially liked the vice for holding the wires for soldering. My only concern is the location of the air bag during the repair. For safety sake, I would disconnect the air bag and place aside with the appropriate side facing up.
a trick: you can watch movies on flixzone. Been using them for watching lots of of movies these days.
@Ahmad Briggs yup, been watching on flixzone for years myself =)

excellent "How to Video". Have a 2000 Alero with horn switch stuck. This video help as I will have to disassemble air bag to reach switch. Thanks

That solder/paste bond looks to be to messy. I think I will stick to the traditional way.

Thanx as always! Very thorough explanation
What"s the brand of the soldering wires holder, the torch and where to get them?. Thanks in advance, great video.
thank you very much for the info... very ,very ,good job . I learned something about my corolla 01 ,I have a problem like this.. thanks........
Nice fix guys. Thanks for the info.
I have a 1995 Ford Escort Gt and I had the clock spring replaced because it went bad. Shortly after I noticed that the horn on the left side was not working. The one on the right works but not the left. Does that sound like a loose wire? Great video. Thanks.
After completely watching video I'd like to know where you got that portable wire holder as well 😁
I believe it’s called “helping hands” you can find them on eBay, amazon etc.
SRS wiring on the 93-02 Mazda 626 is fluorescent orange and florescent blue. You show fluorescent yellow. Perhaps it's better to say that airbag wiring usually has a fluorescent colored jacket? The colors really stand out from normal wiring.
Nice video and awesome shop as well. Take care brother!
EXCELLENT VIDEO THANK YOU FOR SHARING!!!! WHERE CAN I GET THAT WIRE HOLDING TOOL FOR SOLDERING????????
look on the Tools Tab on my web site realfixesrealfast.com
I have an 06 mustang and the airbag light is on and the horn doesn't work and the cruise doesn't work getting code 52 and replaced the clockspring and didn't fix it.any advice on what it could be or how to go about fixing it?
480p in 2016, nice job Dwayne
Are you donating the funds for new camera gear?
+Kevin you realize any newer phone camera is better than this. Idiot
My horn only honks when its steered to either R or L. Does it sound like springclock? 2014 Tundra.
That little vise is cool. But will it stick to "ANY metal surface"? NOPE! Try again.
how about a link to that wire holding clamp tool?
geoffrwelsh 🌱
I t to know where to get one of those clamp holding fixtures
How come the horn blow with the airbag out n it should be grounded on the frame to press to make contact for it to sound the horn
2004 bmw 330 xi suddenly horn stopped working radio on off when visor lights pulled down air bag off.
BMW said it Clock spring and ignition switch
is that the likely problem One or both?. also a new airbag got installed about 1 year ago on the steering wheel .
Saved lotsa money there!!!!
What if there is no power in the steering when you try the wire for the horn to sound ?
I cannot find anything on the 2011 dodge caravan clock spring replacement or how to remove the stearing column to test clock spring
Cory Mitchell
Hey 👋
My problem is that the horn will go off randomly when I drive and while I'm park. I replaced the clock ring in my dodge avenger and the horn still goes off.
Everything I looked up would tell it was a problem with the clock ring. Didn't work.
BILL??? Several ppl want to know about that portable wire holding tool. I thought I had every tool imaginable... Please tell us what it is n where u got it???
That is a nice looking vice, but you could do the same thing with more common "solder fingers"
Good explanation
DO YOU HAVE THE SOLDER PASTE NAME OR BRAND? WHERE YOU CAN GET IT?
I have that same car and I have already removed the two covers but I can not find any screws in the hole under the airbag ....
When I insert the screwdriver I only feel cables .... Someone to help me if there is any specific movement inside. I need to check the contact of the horn because it is direct and I have to remove the relay because it is direct ...
Someone to help me with that thanks!
Trigger the alarm. If it makes horn sound, then moves to the action part where it fails.
Thnks man looks like i need to go to junk yard!
thx bill......
I have a 2007 Chrysler sebring. my horn does not work when I try to press and blow it, but it works when I hit my alarm. could it be the clock spring?
Yes, most likely. The fact that the horn will work when you hit the alarm means the entire horn and wiring to the horn are good. There are two switches that make the horn work. One is the button on the steering wheel which involves the clock spring. The other is the alarm which actually is the engine computer making the horn work. So, yes, take a look into the clock spring.
realfixesrealfast thank you so much
wut scanner do you use
Maxisys pro.
😂@11:30 now all we have to is put this BIG AS WIRE BACK INSIDE!
My 99 toyota sienna will only work if you push or pull on the steering wheel. Sounds like a bad connection.
I have a 1993 Grand Voyager, and the horn works fine, but the airbag light stays lit up. Haven't gotten an answer yet.
Probably a bad clock spring. Have someone read your codes and go from there.
No codes to read. Everything else is normal, except I need the trans rebuilt. I checked the codes counting the check engine light, also with a OBD1 code reader and with a DRBII code reader. my grand am gt is poring oil and has bad wheel berings goin to junk
Can this be applied to any vehicle
of course there can be differences but the basic's are the same
@@strokewarrior5762 thank you
what is the new wire piece from? I need to order one!
for anyone wondering 85-88 grand am horn wire lead. Dorman part# 49319
“Suns out , guns 💪 out. Lol
why not just use a crimp terminal no need for soldering
Should have soldered the two together. It would have been more cost effective.
If someone thinks that's the airbag they probably dont need to be working on it
