- Eating Ramen in Japan is always delicious and in Tokyo, you'll find a chef that wants to give his customers a new kind of bowl. Koizumi Takao is a ramen chef the looks for beauty in his creation. Nature inspired him to make his famous Blue Ramen which is like the ocean or the sky.
The question -- Is this ramen any good?
▶︎ WHERE is this Ramen Shop?
Ramen Kippōshi, Shibuya, Tokyo

The Blue Ramen is a Shio (Salty) Chicken based broth with chicken chashu steak, negi (welsh onions), garlic, hanjuku tamago (soft boiled egg) and chicken oil.
What's the blue color? It's a chef secret but he says it's all natural.
If you're in Shibuya, definitely stop in for a try. It'll make you feel something new for these noodles - like being in Hawaii or Ogasawara in the Pacific!

*Opens up a packet of instant ramen and blue raspberry Kool Aid.* "I got this."
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Remember when there was a koolaid that changed color when water was added? It's back when they sold koolaid with sugar instead of the sweetener packet versions
@@albemar78 I feel old now
lol I was thinking koolaid, too.
Oh man, I forgot about color changing Kool Aid. Thanks for unlocking a long lost memory for me. =D
The secret sauce: blue food coloring
Horse Shoe Crab blood
Literally
Blue green algae
Lol. He said it was all natural tho
@Keren C it's actually red cabbage boiled in water. Then mix it with baking soda. I think, but there's other ways. He also probably added something else so it'll give the ramen flavor.
That blue keeps throwing me off, I keep thinking about some kind of berry flavor instead
MakoTaco yaaaaaaaah exactly
Fr
Yeah ikr i keep thinking about some candy flavour which completelly makes me reject it
I keep thinking about toothpaste.
I keep thinking of Gatorade and Windex lool
"I don't think about how people might react to my ramen. That doesn't really matter to me. I just create what i find beautiful."
As an artist, what he said really touched me. What a seemingly obvious but inspiring way to think. Much harder to act on and stay true to that it would seem i think.
OldeVikingOriginal that comment of his resonated with me as well. He is a ramen artist but more so a decent wonderful human for wanting to bring joy and beauty to others even with something as simple as a bowl of ramen.
Ehh... I think the way to really find artistic enlightenment, is to find a balance between accessibility and personal expression. You can still make it by picking only one or the other, but I think the true mark of a master artist is to accomplish both at once. If you are only creating for your own enjoyment, then you are the only audience to please. If you create strictly for others to enjoy, then you will likely not be pleased, at least eventually. If you create something that both you and your audience can enjoy equally, then you make everyone happy.
Maybe the secret ingredients are smurfs 🤔
I can hear Gargamel’s voice adding the ingredient to the pot - with Azriel meowing evilly behind 😂 did he ultimately find the smurf village?!
It’s blue tonic, he said in the episode at 3:13
Le Chef Fantome he actually said blue “tare”. It’s kinda like a Japanese sauce that’s added to ramen for more flavor.
cursed_blue
Fank Daggot no he said blue tonic
See the blue Pacific waters of Ogasawara here: ruclips.net/video/gRLNsPwQD38/видео.html ★ Smurf Stew is real?! Perhaps Gargamel was successful after all ... alas, it's just chicken (or is it?) Tokyo's Blue Ramen is not just blue, it's really good ramen created by an artist and you should try it if you're in Shibuya. The rumor is that the blue comes from blue spirulina algae which is all natural (not good coloring). Like if you agree that ramen is AWESOME and leave me a comment below on your favorite bowl or experience in Japan. The best one gets pinned to the top! What's your favorite ramen experience and can any beat this Smurfy good ramen? -John
smurfette ramen 😢
Yo listen up, here's the story
About a little guy that lives in a blue world
And all day and all night and everything he sees is just blue, inside and out blue Ramen for me and you.
Very interesting here in Japan! I've never seen this kind of ramen before.
Thanks for sharing, John! You simply the best! 😊
It was like seeing water in a bowl just with amazing ramen, tamago and chashu added to it. Really made me want to try it for myself.

I think the colour is from blue pea flower, which popular natural food colouring in Malaysian dishes. Health beneficial as well.
Or blue spirulina powder
yeah, i think so
Call me Ah Bu colourfully like kek lapis 😁👍🏻
Probably the blood of horseshoe crab
Pea flower produce purple colour not blue. But it might be malaysian blue flower that used for nasi kerabu.
He slurps like he’s drinking a potion in Minecraft
This is legit so funny wth
It’s supposed to be compliment to the chef (so good you forget your manners and slurp)... but when you go over the top and purposely make the noise it’s just cheesy like this example above.
Brandon Speelman it’s not done as a compliment to the chef. Noodles are slurped because the soup is served pipping hot. You don’t wait for the soup to cool because the noodles will become soggy. The slurping brings air into your mouth helps cool the noodles.
Why can't people take jokes?
I was just thinking that lol
I haven’t watch this guy since 2015 coming back 4 years later: HES OLD NOW
Magnetic Tyleno I was looking for this comment, this dude agedddd alottt

Seems he changed his shop location as he became more popular now with his creation. Before he was at Sumida near sky tree in a "dont-care-alley".
Now this is the kinda comment I like
6:44 John: “so how do you make it blue?”
Takao: ☉_☉
Takao: Reveal to it the sadness of the world. (1950's-style rim shot!)
He boiled Hatsune Miku in bathub
ITS FREE REAL ESTATE
1. Put a pot of water on the stove and add a miku
2. Make sure she’s alive and can’t escape as that will ensure that as the water comes to a boil every ounce of life will be squeezed out of her
3. Once it has boiled for 5 minutes strain your miku broth. By now the miku meat should have melted off the miku bones.
4. Add noodles to the miku broth, top with ingredients of your choice. Add miku meat to the dish and serve as chicken so you don’t go to jail
You are the number one for Japan info and a look into the culture. Love your style journey man.
It really reminds me of the clear sky reflecting on a sea with the toppings looking like islands.
John, I have to be honest, you're one of the few RUclipsrs I've still stuck with since the beginning and it's because of episodes like this.
Not because it's about food, but because you show such unique stuff. I used to watch other channels that showed Japan or travel, but I got bored after a while. They all showed the same things, the robot cafe, maid cafes, shopping hauls at popular anime/ game places, Shibuya crossing, adult themed stores, the toilets, etc.
And while this isn't bad and can be interesting for newcomers, it becomes repetitive after a while.
You take the time to find these unique places and people and share them with the rest of us. There's a lot more to Japan than what people think it is and I thank you for that. It forces us to be more vigilant about cultural differences and other countries in general. While some paint the same image of Japan, you show us all of the little details in between.
I know it's a lot of work, but it keeps us all staying and supportive of you. Keep up the great work!
That's because John have been working in nhk before. He know which themes and stuffs that keep attracting viewers
@@satriorama4118 very true!
Yeah the 1001 people showing Ichiran ramen vids and calling it the best just shows how ignorant they are to actual Japanese lovers.
in the whole video i thought: "this must taste like tooth paste or menthol or something" hahaha crazy
The philosophy of this blue ramen reminds me of pretty patties. ;D
The narrator's voice sounds like the voice my brain use when I'm reading Webtoon
What’s you’re fav comic lol mines castle swimmer
I-
You have such a controlled slurp
😲😲😂😂😂😂
I don't know if I'm right but in Japan I think slurping is a sign to show that you like the chef's cooking.
I guess it's another way of saying
"accomplishment to the chef"

Love this journalist. Such a handsome man with kind personality 😊 he looks really kind-hearted
Now you can truly see how the dashi in all ramen gets infused into each noodle strand. It doesn't matter what the base is. Love it!! Time get some ramen now😊😋🍜

John thank you for going out and beyond finding amazing local cuisine with an amazing twist in Japan
When you asked him if all the ingredients are natural, his face changed before he spoke.
Not saying you are wrong, but his face and tone kept changing the entire time they were talking.
I also am a chef. Blue food coloring is the only way to get a clear broth that rapidly transfers it shade to other ingredients.
Antonio Forestgardens agreed. Seems suspicious
@@livefoodforests5707 butterfly pea flower tea transfers its colour rapidly as well.

That ramen must be so good that it hit a new super saiyan level...Ramen Blue!
And I like this chef's outlook on his ramen...that it's suppose to provide that sense of fun!

Hey John! I always enjoy the unique foods that you are able to find for the show! And hearing the Angels play when you bit Into the half boiled egg was hilarious 😂
thanks for another great episode!
The blue sauce might be what they call the Blue Matcha, made from Blue Butterfly Pea.
There also is blue spirulina, which is a sort of seaweed. This tastes kinda neutral, but has very strong natural colour
Diana B. I agree....it has to be blue spirulina cause the color is just like it.
Blue butterfly pea is a bit more purple like.
Many people are saying it’s most likely blue spirulina algae so it’s 100% natural.
Spirulina is a form of cyanobacterium, some of which are known to produce toxins such as microcystins, BMAA, and others. Some spirulina supplements have been found to be contaminated with microcystins, albeit at levels below the limit set by the Oregon Health Department.[3] Microcystins can cause gastrointestinal disturbances, and in the long term, liver damage.[1] The effects of chronic exposure to even very low levels of microcystins are of concern, because of the potential risk of toxicity to several organ systems[1] and possibly cancer.[3
Yummy!!! Not .. wouldn't eat here even if you paid me
The issue here is it's dying the noodles super quick and typically natural things don't embed into things so quick .
Back in the 1960's, we had 濱田 庄司 as a house guest in San Jose, CA. He was considered as a "Living National Treasure" and I have always enjoyed the idea of people as something to be treasured, and to be proud of as a nation. I would really enjoy a series on some of these "Living National Treasures" if possible.
is that the famous potter?
@@thefunkyphantom69 Yes it was. He was giving demonstrations at San Jose State College and spent some time at our house. A quiet man...with grace and dignity. His skill, throwing "off the hump" was truly amazing.

It's more likely blue spirulina powder.
I think it works really well in summer since less people are willing to have hot bowl of ramen and get sweaty. The blue soup definitely reminds me of the ocean and coolness, and it really feels like a color that belongs to summer.
