first i want to thank you so much for this video ... i just finished putting the lowering springs on my 440i and this was the best video to help me through it... For FYI if you dont have the strut seperator you can use a 3/8 to a 1/4 drive save a couple bucks.... thank you again!!
Honestly I can't tell you how good of a quality this tutorial is. And such an amazing video. This definitely deserves way more views. Thank you for this. I will be installing my springs soon.
@@BOO5Tchanneljust did the rears. That bigger bolt in front of the strut bolt was so hard to get out but other than that it was easy. Will hit the fronts tomorrow.
Great tutorial. You make it look so easy. I'm not sure if anyone commented, but the inner bolt on the rear is installed backwards. Just an observation.
Lol yes I get that comment but talked to a bmw shop about that and they said it would make no difference because I was curious. Thanks for the observation and next time will be the right way lol
How are you doing dude!!! Man funny story. i was doing this literally the same day this video came out and i saw your video. I favorite it so i had something to come back to in case my buddy and I got stuck. And we actually did get stuck on the tie rod part for the struts. Kies didn't explain that in his video about the rear wheel only wouldn't have enough space so I wasn't aware of that lol... well I got frustrated and forgot to check this video to continue and now that I have my answer I feel so stupid for not utilizing your information last Saturday. So now that its a few days later, i feel so dumb for not checking out your video when i should have xD..... Anyways now I can finally get to removing those nasty long springs! Thanks
Nice! Glad to hear the videos are helping. I love Kies videos and he does some great how to videos... mine are a bit more in depth just because know the struggle... however sometimes mine can be drugged out a bit lol. Thanks for the support!
Great job explaining the process. Not afraid to do it myself!!! 1 question though.... Do the springs have any clearance issues if you use spacers on the wheels?
Hey, good question but I have never used spacers so not 100% sure.. I can say I use wide M3 wheels with 255/35 front 275/35 rear with no clearance issues!
I like the video but dude you have to start using Jack Stands and a Torque Wrench. And one of the bolts in the rear suspension, I think is the one that holds the strut, should go facing the other way.
Thanks, I am not a mechanic I like to help people out so I do what I can/know how to do. I do use stands when needed but this was a simple spring job nothing long so didn’t use them however I see your point.
How do you know how to set the top hat in the right direction? I tried installing today and I got everything right up until I screwed the top hat back into the top and when to Install the sway bar back and the bracket wasn’t in the same spot as before
Love the channel and your car is super badass.... I just put coilovers on my 2015 335i xdrive and my fender is 25-3/4" from ground (1.50" Drop) .... another guy just posted his is 1.25" drop and his axle is shot... have you had any issues with any xdrive you have lowered?
Thanks for the very helpful video. I just subbed. I just got a 340i last week. At first I wanted to get coilovers but the car has the m adaptive suspension (has wires connected to the strut) and I really don't wanna mess with that. So I thought about just getting the H&R springs, but I'm still debating if I should go with the H&R sport or the H&R super sport (more aggressive lowering). The problem right now is that I have BMW 20 inch wheels and there's about a two-finger gap between the fender and the tire, so the H&R super sport might be a little too low.
Do you know the tightening torque on the 21mm nut that assembles the tie rod end to the steering knuckle? (The one you had to remove in order to drop the knuckle down).
Sounds like you reversed the end links I’ve seen it done before, make sure it’s the right side and right orientation. I nor my friends have had issues with the 5-6 cars I installed
Hi I recently installed H&R lowering spring and after a week of waiting for the springs to settle my driver side front strut blow out and started to leak my car has adapted m suspension would I been fine if I buy the bilstein strut non damptronic ? For a 340i 18
@@BOO5Tchannel oh I see ok, no worries. I just that I nearly bought one the other day until I realised there were different models out there with different torque levels to them.
@@BOO5Tchannel I have had them on for two weeks so far and still uneven. It’s like 1 inch one the driver side being higher compared to the passenger side. I did have the sport springs but I ended up buying the super sport I’ll be installing them soon and finding out how they are.
I have done quite a few springs and never changed the bump stops, they do not bottom easy but it depends on what you are driving like as well. Hitting any pothole will bottom out with any stop even with smaller bump stops, I’ve actually never seen anyone change stops... that being said I’m sure there is a benefit for a few inches
Great Video and tutorial 👍🏼Do you know if this process also applies to 2016 435i Gran Coupe? I’ve looked all over and can’t seem to find a clean video for my 435i
@@BOO5Tchannel yes I am, the thing is I have adaptive suspension but they are blown (rebuilding car) I bought normal struts non adaptive and they are shorter at the top but the springs are same on both struts. So I’m just guessing I need to compress it more
Get some Coilover instead of shitty springs, they will never ride good and the handling with some Kw or Bilstein will be well improved don't do, form over function. I'm telling you this out of experience. nice video !
I agree if you spend good money for higher end Bilstein, but for $200 HR is a performance spring company from Germany, far from shitty in my personal opinion. Low end Bilstein and low end KW is not an upgrade from stock Bilstein with HR springs you just get more adjustability
Dont need to touch tie rods.. put jack under rotors. Remove the strut bolts. Lower jack. Put spring compressors on the strut.. compress springs.. push down on rotors with your shoes and pull strut out of fender well... spread the strut clamp and pull entire strut out.. NO Need touch the tie rod.. dont mess with it. You are showing noobs how to ruin their cars...
The only noob here is Tom Wanachat. I've done both ways and removing the tie rod is the easiest/simplest ways way to drop the strut assembly. First, there is no room to fit the spring compressors in there. Second, there is no room to put the impact in place to compress them. Lastly, when you push down on the spindle ass'y you are putting so much stress on the bushings/joints you can damage them. Keep up the good work Forced Induction.

The damper bolt is backwards. The head of the bolt does toward the front of the car. Will it matter? Probably not. I've made the same mistake :)
Correct

Should I do alignment after spring install?
Absolutely! Good question
What can u use instead of a spindle spreader
Chisel or anything that tapers a bit to wedge in

28ft lbs is what I see on google double check though
It's 175NM / 129 ft lbs and you should use a new nut.

do you have to get camber re adjusted after install or is that something with his car
His car had issues prior to install but definitely should get your alignment done when lowering

It’s just a dewalt driver
