Hi my name is Ashley smith and Barnsley are my team I been coming to the matches for 26 years and I had the honour to play for Barnsley Disability Team where we won plenty of tournaments. I wouldn’t dream of supporting anyone else Barnsley through and through
What a brilliant video! I take Oakwell for granted, going every week, but was really nice seeing a non Barnsley fan walking around and speaking highly of the around and made me appreciate what we have
Great video. Just a note on the badge, I agree about the current one, I've never been a fan of it. It's the town's coat of arms. But the Toby Tyke badge has never been our official badge. It's on this season's third shirt which is the first time it's actually been on a shirt. It was a marketing badge in the late 90s and early 00s which was on all of the merchandise, but back then, the official badge on the front of the shirts was a white rose.
Barnsley fan here season ticket holder in the Norman Rimmington stand, great video, very respectful, great detail and content… will share on X. Good luck with your future videos…
I'm a West Ham fan, but have always had a massive soft spot for Barnsley, simply because of that Toby the Tyke badge. It's got to be one of the best badges, simple but class. Up the reds!
This video popped up on my home page and I simply had to watch it. Great seeing some behind the scenes of my club. Great video mate, really appreciate the effort put into this and showing the wonderful parts of Oakwell, from the staff to the ground and beyond!
Hey Ry! Great Video, I have never been to Barnsley, however I lived next to Islington & St Pancras Cemetery for 10 years and The Founder of Barnsley FC, Father Tiverton Preedy is buried there. I paid quite a few visits to his grave. The Barnsley Supporters association paid for a new Headstone and make the annual pilgrimage to clean and maintain Father Preedy‘s Grave. Keep up the good work.
Look through this video again and you see Rev Preedy in the old pictures inside the changing rooms. After Barnsley he went down to Islington area and started a boxing club. He is still revered in both these manors.
Great video,I’ve been a season ticket holder in the old west stand upper for many years and I love the nostalgia about the stand. The stars home shirt is a tribute to a very iconic home shirt from the 89/90 season that said shaw carpets on the front and was worn by the likes of Paul futcher and David currie. The big east stand is situated next to what was barnsley bitter breweries and the grass wasteland at the end u was stood on leads down to the canal, river dearne and a country park and barnsley main stack that is still there was
proper old school ground and one of the team I remember fondly from the late 90s even though they only lasted 1 season in the Premier League. glad someone else likes this shirt too, it was getting some hate on social media during their play off semi games against Bolton this week 😂
U know mate…Ave been a Barnsley fan since 85’ and the stand you started filming by hasn’t changed much since then let alone the prem season! Fair play coming all that way and giving people especially Barnsley fans, who like someone else said takes it for granted a really good insight and tour of somewhere we go every other week but maybe don’t look…if that makes sense. That’s mate great video all the best 👍🏼
My Church. I live in the Lake District but still have family in Barnsley so get to games whenever I can (not enough) but I feel I take Oakwell for granted when I go since I started going at age 9 but God, she looks amazing and so full of character. Great vid, mate. Hope you manage to get to Oakwell for a game when it’s bouncing some time because it is special. Subscribed👍
I love how you referenced the wikipedia page I wrote about 17 years ago :D Heavily edited since by others, but I did make the estimation of the seats on the other little 'stadium' - I've absolutely no idea whether there's 2200 seats on there, I just roughly counted one block and multiplied it by 8.
brilliant video mate i am a barnsley fc fan all my life we do love our football club brillaint stadium we just need people to put a lot of money into like someone to buy the football club get rid off all the ded wood and start again
Hiya Ryan, I can remember when Barnsley got relegated all 3 promoted clubs got relegated in the season after, this is Choppy in Whitehaven, Cumbria, England
Great video - point of fact we had a white rose as our badge in Premier League. Toby only appeared this season on the black shirt. Keep up the good work!!
I noticed that whilst editing haha weirdly Toby is down as the badge in the Merlin Premier League sticker album for that season… those sticker albums were my bible as a kid 😅
Bit of info for you. Only the West stand is really old. The East Stand & Pontefract Rd End were built in the early 90s to replace covered terracing. The away end was redeveloped in the late 90s, after our season in the Prem and the disabled stand is also a later addition, so apart from the West stand, the stadiums not really an old ground, more like 30 yrs old in reality.
@@RysFootyParadise Yep been to Fulham a few times. I’m currently in around 78 of the current 92, but I’ve done loads more that have moved/rebuilt/gone 👍
Our younger end would like a shiny new stadium old round... the oldies prefer the link to our forebears.. no-one is wrong.... but "you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone"
The south stand (barry murphy stand) was built after the premier league. Floodlights were installed before prem - early 90s i think. The norman rimmington stand is called the Ponty End by fans - as it used to be called the Pontefract Road End. We really should have stayed in the prem. Took us a bit to get going and Danny Wilson stood by a lot of the players that got us up for too long. We got goign after buying Ashley Ward from Derby. There was the famous game v Liverpool at home where the ref Willard completely lost the plot and sent 3 players off. Never forget that game. Thatr sort of broke us. We also had a great cup run that season too. There were no parachute payments when we got relegated and then the collapse of ITV Digital is what sent us into admin. There was then a very cjaotic period with different owners and the likes of P{eter Ridsdale trying to milk the club. Anyway - glad you enjoyed it, liked the shirt and got looked after. The dream of getting back to the prem is still there but getting harder all the time - but look at Ipswich right now. They were with us in league one last season.
It didn't have the away stand behind the goal in the premier league it was a little old terrace which was converted into seating and the disabled area was in the corner it was a box where the scoreboard is now between the away end and the west stand and the tunnel was in the middle of the west stand
Lol noticed you said that. No cheers for visiting my home tarn club was nice to see even though I go all the time and walk past it on the way to probation. Just a shame norman rimmington died a few years back if he would have shown you around you would have been there all day, very passionate about Barnsley. He lived in my village and when I go abroad I always get a football top and he said what am I doing with that on ( panathinaikos when I went to Corfu) top on you should have your home tarn club teams top on. Think that home shirt you got will be popular in a few years we had one similar back in the day
I have been to Barnsley stadium tour 2 years ago. Are you doing stadium tours in the EFL championship? I will be going to Bradford City stadium tour this month.
I think calling Barnsley's home shirt "beautiful" is quite a hot take. Sure, I kinda like the general template, the middle badges with the collar, but the way the white fades in from the bottom doesn't work for me and many other kit enthusiast. It also doesn't help that the US Mobile text is also white and is printed over the white fade at the bottom. But hey! To each their own, I guess.😅
Have you been to Carlisle? If not you really need too! The most terracing in the football league, A big amount of wooden seats like them and a ground of much character you have to experience it! 💙🤍🤝🏻
BLACKBURN TOUR HERE 👉🏾 ruclips.net/video/4vZKmwehGvE/видео.htmlsi=zhWytPpCAjdiDY7Y
Went to Barnsley on an away day last season. Great stadium, great supporters.
I've been there twice with Tranmere. Love Oakwell

Fair play to any club that has given you access without prior contact / tour booked . Well done Barnsley FC ! .
Yep! 🍻👏🏽
You used to just be able to walk into the stadium whenever you wanted
Freiburg used to do the same at their old stadium
What a brilliant video! I take Oakwell for granted, going every week, but was really nice seeing a non Barnsley fan walking around and speaking highly of the around and made me appreciate what we have
Glad you enjoyed it! Really liked Oakwell - will be back for a game

Much appreciated! Thanks, hopefully back for a game - playoffs could be magical

Lovely Oakwell 😍
Enjoying all these stadium tours. Very informative and top content, thank you 🙌🏻

The West stand just sets everything off beautifully though - bit like Fulham with new stands surrounding the Stevenage Road stand 😍

That Barnsley fan at kennel worth is actually my dad not missed a game home or away in 8 year
He seemed like a top bloke 😊👍🏾🍻
Come on you reds!

Bad timing too for Barnsley - like you said with the parachute payments you’d have come back up in the 00s I think
Up the town
wrexham Stadium Tour next pls
Another great video, just want to know where did you get that subbuteo hoodie from that is class?
They sent it out to me 😊 which is class
Absolutely love that shirt
It’s Gawjus ⭐️

Ty
What day was that
It didn't have the away stand behind the goal in the premier league it was a little old terrace which was converted into seating and the disabled area was in the corner it was a box where the scoreboard is now between the away end and the west stand and the tunnel was in the middle of the west stand
Cheers for the info 😊 I should have mentioned the old tunnel when I almost tripped over that little step 😅
Lol noticed you said that.

Will be aiming to get to all the championship grounds before the start of next season 😊👍🏾
Do you have a variety of shirts from lower league teams?
Not yet :(
I’ve been to Villa park and spurs won 4-0 and pape matar Sarr gave me his shirt

Haha it’s quite an outlandish shirt/opinion but I just bloody love it 😍

Not sure what you mean? 😅
We’ve got billionaire owners they have short arms and deep pockets
😅
Respect to the club but the crest is awful. They need to modernise and stylise it. New badge please Barnsley.
They’ve kind of done the opposite to other clubs
I went there with city. Nice ground, great day out
I will do a push up for however replies I get saying up the spurs
