    Great review and as an Electrical Contractor I have also reviewed all the other surge products and this is the one I purchased. Looking forward to my first use this week end.

    Thank you for an in-depth review. I'm in the market for a product just like this and you may have just sold me on this unit.

    Thanks for the information, Gill. I like the idea of hardwiring, better protection from theft, and one less thing to deal with when setting up and breaking down. Checked Amazon they have a hardwired unit for $233.69.

    I got one and it works Great! I draw power at home for my rig off a 30 amp circuit, and 100' cord. The Watchdog keeps track of voltage and will drop the line if the voltage drops below a set point. I can run both AC on the 30 amp as run current is 2800 watts or less, but only if I start one first then the other with a soft start, if I turn them on the other way, the Watchdog will disconnect the power. The power meter tells me the power draw between the soft start AC and the standard AC and soft start makes a huge difference. I plane to add soft start to the second AC and can run both off the 30 amp and not overload it. So not only can it protect the trailer, but also protect the feed used to the trailer. It wont let the trailer draw more power than can be provided. Nice features. I also like that it powers up the trailer within seconds, not the 3 1/2 of the others. There is a wait period if it does cut power of a few minutes so voltage can stabilize, but if voltage is not within specs, it will not power the trailer. Well worth the price, wouldn't have any other now that I have this one.

    Just bought one. It is huge. But I like the fact that the dog lights up white for good. Red for a problem. Let's you know immediately before you have to look at a code.

    Great review. I love the Hughes watchdog. Being in a 50A rig the Bluetooth enables me to budget current draw when in 30A hook up park and not pop the circuit breaker. Also it protects the electrical/electronic devices in the rig when I’m using the inverter generator should I run out of fuel and there’s a voltage spike or low voltage.

      Surge suppression is only partial protection. This protects from high or low shore power, an open neutral, as well as surge protection. As an added bonus, it logs total power used until you reset it.

    Can anyone comment on whether or not this product can be a solution to using a backup gasoline generator (non inverter generator) which has a high total harmonic distortion (thd). I'd like to set up a backup power supply to my home by using a portable generator and a transfer switch or interlock switch connecting the generator to my home's main breaker box. However, I am concerned about the unclean thd from the more affordable generators. Could this handle the 13,000watts on a 50amp breaker powering an entire home? Sure would hate to damage electronics

      Yes they do and I've used it. Given they number one failure in these kind of units is the surge suppressor module, this one is user replaceable. Less down time. This one also does things the PI unit does not. The most important being coach side neutral checking. I own both and use this one.

    Thank you - well done. I'm looking for a way to track/log electrical consumption of my RV (30AMP service) for a couple months in order to size my solar and lithium installation correctly. Would you recommend the watchdog for this task? I already own a Surge Guard surge protector but it does not offer any logging and don't really want to spend an additional $175 but I might just for the ability to step up and regulate voltage. Is there a more affordable way anyone knows to do this?

    • @giljohnson3122
      @giljohnson3122  2 года назад

      Yes, the Watchdog tracks instantaneous and cumulative power consumption. The cumulative counter can be reset. The only other data you will want is peak usage.

    I own a 2002 Class A and am new to RVing. The RV has an Intellitec EMS system with full AC/DC breakers and I am confused as to whether or not having a surge protector is necessary or duplicative to what already exists within the RV EMS?

    • @prevostmotorhomehelp2577
      @prevostmotorhomehelp2577 3 года назад +1

      Intellitec built a lot of different systems. Yours likely turns off preselected circuits when you are plugged into less than 50 amps.
      This device provides high and low voltage and surge protection that your intellitec device doesn't likely provide.

      It looks great but replacement of the module when it burns out is confusing. Looked like you pointed to all the inside. Also shouldn't i have a spare so I'm not waiting days for a part? Could you do a demo of what I must do to get it up and running again please. I would feel more confident seeing it once before tackling it alone and out of electricity.

    Can I have an adaptor and connect it to 20 amp (House Outlet) using the 30 Amp power watchdog ? So I basically wanted to hookup my camper to my house. Thank you!

    • @prevostmotorhomehelp2577
      @prevostmotorhomehelp2577 3 года назад +1

      There is nothing in the Watchdog that would prevent you plugging in it in an outlet with a lower breaker rating. Just realize the breaker in the house will trip before the one in the Watchdog. There's nothing wrong with this technically.

      There's nothing you can do to protect the supply. It does protect against supply problems and checks the integrity the RV side neutral with thier 50A unit. In fact, they were the first to check the RV side neutral. Not all do.
