This the song I sang every night to my baby boy at bedtime........Long before he could really speak, he could and would sing along with me.....Still brings me to tears.
This concert took place on my 15th birthday. My beloved youngest brother Bruce just passed away on March 11th, 2023. Same date as my former husband, March 11th, 2018. It was three days before Bruce's birthday (March 14th). I posted this song in loving memory for him. Thank you James Taylor and God bless you! 🙏😇💙
Condolences. Music has helped with every loss in my own long life, too. I didn't see James Taylor until a few years ago, and he has only improved with age. Bless you.
My dad used to sing this song to me every night until I was 12 years old, it brings a tear to my eyes every time I listen to it. I just wish I could be little again…
My Father named me James after this song and James Taylor who was his favorite musician. He was a musician also and used to play and sing it to me when I was really little. Love you Pop, may you rest in peace. 🙏 💜
I used to sing this song with all five of my daughters, when they were young. Years later, my first born surprised me by picking it for our father-daughter dance at her wedding. It was a great party.
I danced to it with my Dad at my wedding, too. He passed yesterday after a 5 year battle with dementia, which is what brought me to this video today. RIP, Daddy.
In the days before Autotune, Art Garfunkel said he used to warm up for shows by singing along with James Taylor records because his pitch and sustain is so smooth and precisely on the note. What a unique and special voice...
Fascinating, James Taylor still sounds great after all these years but to hear him in his prime in a good recording just him and the acoustic guitar, wow.
I've listened to this every Dec. 1st since 1970... it takes me back to when I first heard it driving from Aspen back to Chicago... a magical, dreamy song... love it.
I can't wait until June to see you at Summerfest. I will be bringing my Sweet Baby James who is my great nephew and 10 years old as my date. He has heard about you for years and I bought your book Sweet Baby James for him as a special treasure. We are PUMPED and ready to spend the evening with you and Sheryl Crow.🙂💜
Man this is such gold, the way you play the guitar with the bass root notes is just astonishing to me. I've been playing guitar for 24 years, finger picking is one of the things I've always tried so hard at but can never seem to get down as well as you can lol. You are by far the best singer songwriter in history in my opinion, i think all other guitar players would agree. Your music will never grow old my friend❤
I'm a Brit and I was at University in 1970. Fire and Rain was on the juke box all the time but this is a great song too. His reference to a turnpike from Stockbridge to Boston being covered in snow always sounded romantic but probably isn't.
I was graduating from High School in 1970. My roommate in college had your album(s) and we would listen to them on her automatic record player. Great to hear you in concert at BBC in 1970!
Started listening JT in 1970 when I bought Sweet Baby James album... Now 72, been dabbling with guitar for 55 years only now trying to get to grips with finger picking JT songs.I'm rubbish but I just manage to get some nice sounds now and again..... Sweet....
I feel like a teenager as I listen to this and remember how amazing the times were when Peace in the world was the goal and innocence was so widespread unlike today with the hate and division. Thanks for the great memory's
My son was born in 1983 & this was his "baby song", the lullaby I chose to calm him & sing him to sleep. It worked a charm. I'd loved it since first hearing, still a child myself (ok, a big one), but the meaning shifted & deepened. Now I can't hear it without tearing up. So many other great ones, too. JT is a National Treasure.
Another classic from 1970... I was a month and 5 days old during this performance. Hadn't heard it till much later. 1970 had a ton of classic albumns... Beatles let it be... The Grateful dead had workingmans dead..and American Beauty..and Cat Steven's had an album out too.. but I love this classic by James Taylor.
I loved this song. Forever. I understood the emptiness and let’s leave the other parts of it out there for now be personally relatable. Recovery is possible.
James is awesome singer song writer. This is my all time favorite song + Paul Simon's America. I saw James live in down town Auckland NZ in the 80's. Love from Malaysia
I have had the absolute honor to see James Taylor live 3 times. The first was when I was away at college, my mom got me and my roommate tickets even though money was tight that year. I cried the entire show. The second show was Mother's day. I went to the show with my mom and dad and cried the whole show. A few years ago we went to Vegas for my birthday specifically to see Jamea Taylor. My aunts from Hawaii came. My parents came. My husband knew I'd cry the entire show. Sometimes he'll wake up in the middle of the night because I'm not in bed. He always finds me in the living room dancing in the dark by myself to this song. We don't have children. But if we do, I'm naming them James just so I can sing them this masterpiece every night. The highlight of my entire life is getting to shake this legend's hand and get pictures next to him. I'll never forget the look on my mom's face when we found each other after the concert and I pulled out my autographed tote bag. In the 37 years I've known her, I have never seen such a big smile on her face. She was so genuinely happy for me. My husband was happy, but he said that every other concert he ever takes me to will never top that night. And he's right. Elton john, celine dion, cher, andrea bocelli. All legends. All amazing shows. But James Taylor is king in our household. I hope to see him live many more times before he retires. If he ever announces a farewell tour, I will gladly sell everything I own to follow him on tour
I remember in a concert at Lincoln Center, NYC, I believe 1972 or 1973, James Taylor performed "Making Whoopee" to celebrate his marriage to Carly Simon. I and a lady friend really enjoyed his rendition. I wish you/he would place it on RUclips. It would sure gladden this old heart with memories or better times behind.
We had a family friend of ours named James, who passed away in the early 2000s. My mother met him when he was a young man and they were both doing the booze scene before they sobered up (they were not lovers). James drank himself into a coma back then and it caused permanent damage to his body. He had to have his Kidneys removed and was on dialysis for the rest of his life, and it eventually killed him. But he did eventually sober up. He was a guitar player and a chef. Brilliant at both. Lots of good memories of him from my childhood. Even back then, I would sing this song and think of him. RIP James, we miss you.
Every time I hear this song, it's like I'm hearing it for the first time back when I went on a road trip with my dad in the snowy mountains. There is nothing like listening to James Taylor.
I bought the Sweet Baby James album way back in 1970...on the strength of the single 'Fire and Rain'. Straightaway this title track totally blew me away back then and continues to do so, ever since, 54 years later. There's just something utterly captivating and very moving about it. For me it's in the same league as Cat Stevens' 'The Wind' that came out at a similar time in history. ....and Paul Simon's 'Leaves that are green'.
1970 was my senior year in high school. My family lived on Andrew’s Air Force Base just outside of Washington DC. What an exciting time that was. In 1971. I was a student at St. George’s community college and musicians toured college campuses . I met Livingston Taylor and spent some time with him. Unfortunately, that was the 1970s and I don’t remember a lot of it… What can I say?
He is so underrated. He is a musical genius and has been since he was young. His own style of picking, it's brilliant. Even today he's still singing and playing and sounds as good if not better than this. People should really look at him Plat and listen. They'll never be another who can play like this and create such beautiful songs.
I was 38 weeks pregnant and still didnt have a name picked out for my baby, I was listening to this beautiful song that my Dad used to play for me on the guitar, he'd play it only to me, although I had 3 brothers, I decided that this baby would be my sweet baby James, and he was, and is, I have sung this song to him at bedtime for the last 10 years
Just imagine performing this same song for 53+ years. To push aside your own interests in performing other material, just to satisfy your fans known song request preferences. Could not have been easy for JT.
Upon hearing this song I was inspired to write a lullaby to my granddaughter, Rosie. "Goodnight Sweet Baby Rose” sung to the tune of “Sweet Baby James” by James Taylor written by Rosie’s Grandma Cherie on September 11, 2015 Good night our moonbeam lady, Sweet dreams to dear Baby Rose, Your day is complete and now you must sleep, Goodnight our Sweet Baby Rose! Here come the angels to guide you, To Lullaby Land you now go, In the morning you’ll wake, and again our hearts take, But for now goodnight Baby Rose! Away you will soar to the heavens, On Soft breezes o’er clouds you will fly, To visit the stars and the moon in your dreams, Good night with this soft lullaby! You are so dear in your sweet crib, The sight brings tears to my eye, I sing to you now a grandmother’s song, While dreams steal you away where you lie. So goodnight our moonbeam lady, Sweet dreams to dear Baby Rose, Close your sapphire blues and Sweet dreams to you, Goodnight to Rosalind Eve! Sweet dreams dear Baby Rose!
Spent a good deal of time on the Vineyard in the past. Saw Livingston several times in concert in Edgartown and Oak Bluffs and ate at the other brother's restaurant up on Gay Head, but alas no James. Oh, well. love James and the whole clan.
This the song I sang every night to my baby boy at bedtime........Long before he could really speak, he could and would sing along with me.....Still brings me to tears.
I used to play/sing "Daddy's Baby" for the little girl who was to be my stepdaughter. She turned 43 October 29, 2023. I miss her.
Since I was a boy ive wanted a son named James to sing this song to before bed every night. I pray every day for the pleasure
Thank you, that brought a sweet picture to my mind
Me, too, with my boys!
My dad sang this to me at bed time too 🥰

@@mollyhall2954 I've been listening to James Taylor's smooth voice for 50 years. He is soothing the pain. Thanks my dear and bless you too! ❤️
Oh wow...I would have been 8...but we have the same birthday.
Bruce and I have the same birthday!
He was the there for me at the most painful moment in my life. I played this album to death. Thanks James.x
My dad used to sing this song to me every night until I was 12 years old, it brings a tear to my eyes every time I listen to it. I just wish I could be little again…
The BBC had wonderful sound recordists
My dad used to play and sing this song on guitar when I was younger. My name is James so this song and those moments hold a special moment in my heart
Good on ya, James
is James even capable of singing a wrong note? He's so pure its uncanny
My Father named me James after this song and James Taylor who was his favorite musician. He was a musician also and used to play and sing it to me when I was really little. Love you Pop, may you rest in peace. 🙏 💜
🙏

In the days before Autotune, Art Garfunkel said he used to warm up for shows by singing along with James Taylor records because his pitch and sustain is so smooth and precisely on the note. What a unique and special voice...
That’s because his idol was the goat Hank Williams
Fascinating, James Taylor still sounds great after all these years but to hear him in his prime in a good recording just him and the acoustic guitar, wow.
Ahhh, my Sunday morning rainy day man. Nice warm cup of coffee, James Taylor and just sitting and watching the rain fall. It's blissful to me.
An undying classic. Will stay with us until the end of time. ❤
Since I was born and raised in Massachusetts, I feel like James is a treasure and honored to have him live in my great state ❤
My Big brother came to be a guitar player because of You James, thank You! You are the one!
I've listened to this every Dec. 1st since 1970... it takes me back to when I first heard it driving from Aspen back to Chicago... a magical, dreamy song... love it.
My dad always sung this to me to get me to sleep as a baby. It still works haha, this song is a special one
I always thought this song was about me lol, as a kid not knowing much about music it was my own lullaby😂, another video I'm excited about. ❤
❤
No its for my baby girl😄only 😤
It was awesome how James had wide admiration. Cool kids, awkward kids, nice kids, tough kids, girls, boys. You got it sweet baby James!
I can't wait until June to see you at Summerfest. I will be bringing my Sweet Baby James who is my great nephew and 10 years old as my date. Well said, underrated guitar player
I had forgotten the unique quality of his voice: piercingly pure and melodic with perfect diction. You can always hear every word. Wonderful.
I'm a Brit and I was at University in 1970. Fire and Rain was on the juke box all the time but this is a great song too. His reference to a turnpike from Stockbridge to Boston being covered in snow always sounded romantic but probably isn't.
Man what a musician. What an incredible natural voice.
I was graduating from High School in 1970. My roommate in college had your album(s) and we would listen to them on her automatic record player. Great to hear you in concert at BBC in 1970!
I graduated in 1970, too!
@@oppyrich Awesome!!
Started listening JT in 1970 when I bought Sweet Baby James album... Now 72, been dabbling with guitar for 55 years only now trying to get to grips with finger picking JT songs.I'm rubbish but I just manage to get some nice sounds now and again..... Sweet....

I too had hair like that in the 70’s. And now James and myself look about the same.
Don't we all?
A superlative rendition of his classic.
The Best Song James ever wrote Played and sung. Period.
It's a classic. Sure miss some of the 70s.
The first 18 months lol.
I actually drove from Stockbridge to Boston singing this.
Love this song ... and James' voice
The Purist Ballad singer of all time. The Purist Voice of all time. NONE (Globally) have come behind Him that can compare.
Well, this is sublime.
Love JT. He is the best! Have seen him many times. Actually met him in person twice. Such a nice man.
Man, now THAT is an acoustic guitar sound to die for! He's the only one that gets it too.
Martin? Bass is outstanding
What a voice 🎶
Love this song and James Taylor❤
Classic James Taylor He is an American Treasure!!
the most perfectly sensitive singer-songwriter album of it's time.
He takes me with me as he tells his story. Wonderful thing to experience.
Great song and a beautiful time in the History of popular music ❤
I sang it to my Sweet Baby James…❤
Fantastic 😊😊
so soothing

Grande señor James Taylor.

Love from Malaysia
I will listen to James Taylor for the rest of my life. My dad died listening to the Brandenburg Concertos. I want to die listening to this.
My request will be bob Seger's roll me away
Best music era
soothing county music, I'm rustic ❤
Devolve meu coração James! Não consigo aceitar que nunca assistirei um show😢
Love this song since my high school days!! Always brings back good memories to me💐
I love you sweet baby James.🤗😇
This song popped into my head while driving one day and here I am. Thanks RUclips. ❤

🥀Beautiful song I've always loved his song's and sence of humor. Unique vocals are strong but soothing that's a true artist no doubt 🥀☝️🥀✌
Absolute treasure!! ❤🧡💛💚💙💜🖤🤎🌈💐🌹🌼🥀🌷🌸🌻💐🌺🏵️🌹🥀💐

I try (just to see) to listen to this song without “feeling” so much
I can’t. I fail. It’s just too beautiful.
James sempre James!! É um prazer ouvi lo..😎😍👏👏👏🇧🇷
The Beatles heard him sing something in the way she moves and loved it. The rest is history.
I bought the Sweet Baby James album way back in 1970...on the strength of the single 'Fire and Rain'. I used to sing this song to my son. David James. ❤
Beauty of sobriety
The best that i always repeat time to time...Good to hear
Pure Magic

You’ve insured me during the tough times. ThankYou so much.
great song
James, that was sweet baby! 🙏
SEE WHAT YOU DONE THERE, SWEET BABY JAMES CLEVER. PEACE BE WITH YOU ALL MY FRIEND'S. 🙏✌️😎🏴
Superb
I am so glad that I grew up when I did. The music was phenomenal.
Great memories!
😎👍❤🖖
Love Brother
My parents get engaged and kissed for the first time at James' Taylor concert in Italy.
Thank you James.
I'm assuming this was before you were born
one of the 1st songs I learned on guitar...just played it for the 1st time in forever an hour ago
I play it also but the finger picking eludes me..
He's a master of finger picking.
Just had a new baby James in our family, born 12-6, not the 1st but near it.
I was 38 weeks pregnant and still didnt have a name picked out for my baby, I was listening to this beautiful song that my Dad used to play for me on the guitar, he'd play it only to me, although I had 3 brothers, I decided that this baby would be my sweet baby James, and he was, and is, I have sung this song to him at bedtime for the last 10 years
Que música linda!!!

There's a song so beautiful, so sweet❤
che brividi, stupendo!!!!
Rockabye Sweet Baby ❤
I love this so much.........❤❤❤❤❤
Upon hearing this song I was inspired to write a lullaby to my granddaughter, Rosie.
"Goodnight Sweet Baby Rose”
sung to the tune of “Sweet Baby James” by James Taylor
written by Rosie’s Grandma Cherie on September 11, 2015
Good night our moonbeam lady,
Sweet dreams to dear Baby Rose,
Your day is complete and now you must sleep,
Goodnight our Sweet Baby Rose!
Here come the angels to guide you,
To Lullaby Land you now go,
In the morning you’ll wake, and again our hearts take,
But for now goodnight Baby Rose!
Through midnight you’ll dream of your loved ones,
Those who live for your smile,
But for now goodnight sweet Rosie,
Please go to sleep for awhile!
Away you will soar to the heavens,
On Soft breezes o’er clouds you will fly,
To visit the stars and the moon in your dreams,
Good night with this soft lullaby!
You are so dear in your sweet crib,
The sight brings tears to my eye,
I sing to you now a grandmother’s song,
While dreams steal you away where you lie.
So goodnight our moonbeam lady,
Sweet dreams to dear Baby Rose,
Close your sapphire blues and Sweet dreams to you,
Goodnight to Rosalind Eve!
Sweet dreams dear Baby Rose!
