Had he been tried and convicted of fraud every time he didn't pay contractors, because at least half the time it was fraud, he would not have been able to be considered a first-time felon. Had he been convicted of fraud after Trump University went down in flames, instead of paying off that chick in Florida not to see the crime and let him walk with a $25 M fine, he would not bw considered a first-time felon.

judge chutkan is more likely to seriously consider jail time, in part because elections would be over by the time the trial starts, but mostly because the crimes are so much more serious. this was the weakest, least consequential of the 3 big cases

This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. It isn’t that he is a first time offender, it simply is it’s the first time he’s been held accountable. I hate when the older age of a defendant is considered in lessening a sentence. I can see it with a younger person who may not be mature or mentally developed enough to understand the consequences of poor behaviour, but a 70 something billionaire should know better and if anything, have a harsher sentence for having the benefit of mature experience and acting poorly despite knowing better.
