You’re an absolute genius. Fair play mate, definitely doing this to my sprinter. Thanks a million for sharing
Thank you that’s really kind of you to say good luck with your van conversion 👍🤓👍
I love the lift drawer trick! Makes perfect sense. So simple and elegant.
Glad you like it!
You appear to be 'Building by Thumb'. No measuring other than 'against the job'. Lots of old boatbuilders build this way. Very effective. I had a work colleague who was illiterate and dyslexic, he could not read write or follow a plan., however, when left to his own devices, and managing the job his own way, he could build the most beautiful and intricate equipment imaginable. 'Where there is a will there is a way'. This is an excellent example of building with a Cottage-Rustic Theme. Well done brother. Cheers from Michael. Australia.
Quote "In my minds eye it's coming together" who needs a plan when you've got your minds eye Mel lol, great.
Thank you 😊
Nice one. Definitely homely and warm....better than plastic white or mdf
Thank you 👍🤓👍
16:15 No, you are extremely professional. This kitchen is beautiful. Amazing work 😍
Thank you that’s really kind of you to say 👍🤓👍
DIY kitchens look so intimidating but you’ve literally made this look so simple and easy thank you so much keep up the great work!
Thank you
I found them...woohoooo!! They are called Turn Button Latches :)
Well done 👍 😂👍
You make me smile
Thank you 😊
Some good looking draws, the handles and hinges look fantastic
Thank you that’s really kind of you to say Thank you happy new year 🥳
Very nice! You make it look so easy! Loving your color choice! I have been in the USA a long time...I meant colour! lol
Thank you for sharing! ~Tracey~👍🐾🐾
Thank you you are absolutely welcome 🙏
I've said it before, but you make it look so easy, Mel! I enjoyed seeing how you work through the design process. Nobody ever shows that part!
Thank you I wasn’t sure how making such a long winded video would go down lol I really do appreciate your encouragement and support 👍🤓👍
Nice personality, accent & kitchen cabinet build 😊
Thank you 🙏
Hi Mel
Stick a line of your auto carpet to the top of the wood that your drawer sits on.
The drawer will run smoothly and will help with any rattles when driving.
👍
That’s a fantastic idea thank you I’ll definitely give that a go 👍🤓👍
Or use candle wax
farm house type of cupboards i like it Mel very cosy Mate
Cheers mate hope you’re all ok 👍🤓👍
brilliant as ever mel, just an idea for wood filler , if you use an electric sander with a dust bag, empty the bag and mix it with wood glue, usually dries pretty quick and of course it blends in too. hth, cheers simon
Brilliant buddy thank you 🙏
Brilliant. The little wedge & the part that sticks up in the back. Thank You for posting.
You’re absolutely welcome 👍🤓👍
Hi Mel 👍 just saying thanks again 👍 done a grand job 👍👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Thank you 👍🤓👍
Love the idea of the little cleats under the draws to stop them coming out. Great job
Your design and build process is simple but quite effective. Nice work.
Thank you really appreciate your positive feedback 👍🤓👍
You are so humble, you smile a lot and have a lovely personality. I enjoy these as much as a warm fireside, a hot cup of cocoa and a good book! Such good tips on the small stuff which is always what trips you up on builds. Love it! Keep 'em coming, Mel.
Looks like you were a bit peaky as you mentioned. Here are some health tips that work for me.
Take Vit D3 5000 IU + Zinc 50 mg every night. No more colds!
Turn heat completely off or down to very cold 55 F or so.
Wear a cap on head, and fluffy warm blankets, but head must be covered. Head has 50% of your blood.
Humidifier in room, no more dry air. Dry air = dry sinus = precursor to colds and sinus issues.
Keep hydrated. This means that sea salt and electrolyte balance must be right in body, not just water but minerals too.
Take a vitamin/ mineral supplement daily at noon with lunch not at breakfast with coffee that blocks it.
Exercise hard daily, and stretch.
Turning the heat off or very low and adding moisture to the air is the key to not getting sick. Ever!
Irritated sinuses from dry air is the worst thing for your body. If I fly in winter and have to suffer the dry air on planes from heating, I get really sick at destination. So I don't fly in winter any more or take short flights. This should help keep you fit and healthy for more videos!
Thank you that’s really kind of you 👍😊👍
You can get some thing to sit on the little log burner to heat water it’s handy for hot water bottles in winter there life saves haha .. Lovely build matey
Thank you yes I got a coffee pot 👍🤓👍
Or spot on I can’t think what is was called but it reminds me of a big hip flask as it sits on top but the back is in the shape of the flu so it sits nice on top I think there on the go out doors web site for there out door burners lovely van matey 🙂👍
fantastic build Mel. the colour scheme is attractive, and the attention to detail is second to none. i have a small camper van and get a lot of good ideas when watching you and Greg. keep it up!!
Thank you that’s a really nice complement much appreciated 👍🤓👍
Haha..I love you...you work things out as you go along ..that is sooooo me!! My sister is the precision planner and I'm the complete opposite lol. Brilliant vid, going to use it to build my kitchen cupboard. Such a homely delivery too...have subscribed. x
Thank you for taking the time to comment and subscribing I really appreciate your positive feedback and encouragement good luck with your build remember to keep it simple keep it safe 👍😊👍
i'm liking your ideas Mel. my first effort at a drawer was um... well it worked... but this looks a lot easier than my efforts :)
Thank you for your positive feedback really appreciated good luck with your build 👍🤓👍
The catches are called turn-buttons, they look great on your doors. I'd also put a bayonet catch on the doors as extra security and to stop the doors being pushed inwards wringing the hinges.I use homemade turn-buttons screwed in the back of the drawers (a little tighter than the ones on your doors) to stop the drawers from pulling right out. I make the lower side longer than the upper so if the screw becomes loose gravity will keep it in the right position. The colours look awesome, definitely given me colour scheme ideas for my current build.
Hay thanks for the great advice really appreciated 👍🤓👍
This man is simply adorable
Awww that’s kind of you thank you ☺️
Love your methods Mel, because you achieve great results from basic ways, on your own too, with genius little touches along the way, like at 8:25ish the raised back edge on the drawer that will now enable it to fully extend without falling out, no need for fancy running rails at all, so simple but just brilliant! best wishes from Alan, in Norfolk.
Thank you Alan really appreciate your encouragement and support 👍🤓👍
Great video Mel, I appreciate your different approach to things.
Thank you that’s really kind of you
@@BigVanSmallWorld I’ve watched so many videos on building cabinets and felt overwhelmed, but you take a different approach on both types of cabinets…I can do this!!!
@@jhrhiggi thank you I’m so glad it’s helpful 👍
Wow, thanks for all the practical advice, especially the simple solutions for making the drawers!
I can instantly use it because I'm building my own kitchenette for my minicamper right now! The result of your kitchen is marvellous, I like that style!
Thank you I really appreciate your encouragement and support good luck with your build 👍🤓👍
Another great video, what I like about yiur videos is that you prove you dont need to spend a fortune to get a home made INDIVIDUAL camper. Top stuff
Thank you John that’s exactly what I’m trying to achieve really appreciate your positive feedback 👍🤓👍
Love watching you. You’re the bomb.
Thank you that’s really nice message to wake up to ☺️👍
That is some quality work. I built cupboards with runners and yes it is a pain!
I feel your pain thanks for the positive encouragement 👍🤓👍
Great work. My son is starting his campervan project next week and has very little experience of working with wood. This will help him. Thanks Mel.
You are absolutely welcome 👍🤓👍
Hi Mel. I hope you are on the mend. Take some good rest and look forward to seeing soon 😊. Great build
Thank you 😊
Hi Mel, I'm not normally in the habit of commenting on videos, but I just had to on yours. You just reminded me so much of my dad and it bought a tear to my eyes. I'm just about to embark on my own van converting journey and was saying to my mum earlier I wish my dad was still around to help. He was a wood machinist and loved making things. Thank you for the video and I wish you all the best.
Awww thank you Kirsty that’s so sweet of you to say I’m sure your dad would be so proud of you good luck with your build hope my videos will be helpful to you 🙏
Did I say I love it! and the accent - another cat lover- hurrah!
Thank you 😊
Another great video keep up the good work mel
Thank you 👍🤓👍
All looks good and the blue with the brown surfaces work great.
Thank you 👍🤓👍

Thank you 🙏
13:23 bob's your uncle..such a cute expression:)

Thank you and good luck with your van when you get it just keep it simple and keep it safe your be fine 👍🤓👍
Mel you are a legend! Your personality and knowledge is second to none always look forward to your vids keep doing what you do so well.
Thank you that’s really nice of you 👍🤓👍
Another great video Mel 👍
Thank you 👍🤓👍
Great job. I'm doing a van build now and was looking for an easy way to build some cabinets, and this will do quite nicely. Thanks.
Thank you for the positive message good luck with your build 👍😊👍
Sweet 👍
Thankful I found your channel tonight. I've just purchased a conversion van. Got the seats out and put in a bed along the back. This gave me lots of room to add a kitchen island which took me searching for how to make one. The bed frame wasn't too hard, just sitting and pondering on what to do. Watching you work was so good for me. You have a great way of teaching and I seem to learn by watching and just hands on. I love the style as you said cottage. My home I call My Country Cottage. Yesterday was in the high 60's here and was great for building the bed but today it snowed so I will have to wait until next week to start on the kitchen cabinet. Were you working on a four foot length cabinet? I was thinking I would make one door with drawers but it seemed you had so much more. Would be a perfect design for me. Thanks so much for sharing and I look forward to watching you more. It's fun. Blessings, Teri
Hi thank you for your positive message that’s really appreciated my kitchen is around 4ft I’m actually thinking of taking it apart to make it slightly wider so I can install the hob the other way around to give me more work space good luck with your build remember to keep it simple keep it safe 👍🤓👍
Good that Mate!
Thank you 😊
Do you have a video on how you made the bin for the drawer? Your videos are so helpful!
Thank you that’s really kind of you to say I’m so sorry I don’t quite understand what you mean about the bin could you elaborate a little and I’ll see what I can do 👍😊👍
@@BigVanSmallWorld I guess I mean just the drawer itself... I have shelves in my van and I'm trying to make drawers to pull in and out but my dad is trying to over complicate how to make the actual wooden box (maybe just called the "drawer"). He listens to you though. We're making the slide out bed right now and every time he insists on adding a different support or beam to the frame I have to say "no, remember Mel's video? He didn't use that. We're following what Mel did. He knows what he's doing." 😂 We've gone back to reference that bed video like 6 times now because he believes you and not me
That’s golden sounds like you are both having fun fitting out your van so nice to know my videos are helpful thank you.
Yes the drawers are just simple box with a lip at the back to stop them falling out just remember to fit the drawer front after you have slid them into location that way they will line up perfectly good luck with your build 👍😊👍
I love the cupboard !!!! i want this in mine now!!! Thanks so much for posting xx
You are absolutely welcome Becky 👍🤓👍
No words for it Mel your just a clever man,, after filling the fire extinguisher how do u pressurerise it
Thank you that’s really nice of you to say the extinguisher has a valve to put compress air in using a pump I’ll make a video all about it soon 👍🤓👍
@@BigVanSmallWorld thank you Mel for your reply yeah I'd like to see how that's done. Great job I really enjoy vids and appreciate your effort into them
Mel, if you use a small block with a single screw in it at back of drawer u can turn it so it stops drawers coming all way out the turn it back when u need to remove drawer if that makes sense 🤣
Makes perfect sense thank you 👍🤓👍
@@BigVanSmallWorld keep up the good work 👍
You’ve inspired me to have a crack at building one for my Peugeot Expert! Thanks Mel you’re a star! 👏👏👏
Thank you and good luck with your build 😊
Cheers Mel!
I really like how you are doing the way you are doing all this 🤗
Thank you that’s really kind of you to say 👍🤓👍
Really great job
Thank you 👍🤓👍
Well done Mel, I like them. Good to see you back to your cheery self.
Thank you 👍🤓👍
It’s looking great Mel. You are making great progress 👍👍
Thank you 👍🤓👍
The cupboard looks great but I think you might need to improve the door catches as I’m quite sure they’ll move when you’re on the road.
Thank you they are working great no worries at all 😊👍
@@BigVanSmallWorld I didn’t notice the date of the video and assumed it was a recent post. Glad they’re working well and you’re happy with them. Keep up the good work!
Not a tape measure in sight. But a lovely cabinet just the same. I'm going to nick this one Mel. Thanks for sharing. Just subbed.
Thank you I really appreciate your support and encouragement 👍🤓👍

You do beautiful work, I found this so calming to watch, I think it is because you showed every step and in real time :D love it..
Thank you that’s nice of you to say really encouraging and much appreciated 👍🤓👍
1st time here. You have some great ideas, & know how to execute them. That must be satisfying to be able to see an issue, think & figure it out & DO IT. You have a gift. Thanks 4 sharing.
Thank you I appreciate your positive encouragement and support 👍🤓👍
Good effort, I’m in the process of redoing my self built camper, documenting it all on my channel (not really a channel as only have 70 odd subscribers 🤣🤣) I may have to take up a few of your ideas 👍🏻 keep it up Mel
Thank you Rusty keep uploading videos and your channel will grow 👍🤓👍
That cupboard looks really nice Mel + Can`t wait to see how the fire extinguisher adaption works.
Thank you 👍🤓👍
Looks absolutely brilliant Mel 👍
All the small details take up time buy makes the job a tidy one that you can be proud of.
Stay well.

Thank you Ash 👍🤓👍🍻
Awesome
Thank you 👍🤓👍
I think without magnetic catches they're gonna rattle like a can of bolts when you are driving! Yep I like the rustic look too! Looks more homely and cosy!
Thank you great point I’m going to put some on the doors 👍🤓👍
You are the modern day of Magnus Pike 😂 nice one Mel 👍😀🐾
I have no idea who that is I’ll have to google him 👍🤓👍🍻

I really enjoy all your videos. Will nick a few ideas. I'm getting on a bit in years, I've known your catches as turn buckles. Keep up the good work. Cheers Mel.
Thank you and good luck with your build 👍🤓👍
That looks good Mel, certainly coming along with it. Look forward to seeing the next instalment of how to make it right. 😎😉👍
Thank you 😊
haha legend, love the simplicity! - About to tackle my own, love the draws with no runners needed 😁
Thank you and good luck with your build 👍😊👍
Great idea Mel can’t wait for the wiring vid 👍
Thank you 👍🤓👍
Nice job, Mel. Simple and functional. I will steal that idea about the stop in the back and under the drawers, genius. I buy You a preferred beverage as a thank You if I see You on the road in the future :)
Cheers mate I’ll definitely have a beverage good luck with your build 👍🤓👍
Great video ! Thank you for the DIY lesson .

Thank you Clay 👍🤓👍
Nice one Mel, I've been wondering how to front my kitchen, thanks for the ideas 😀👍
Hay Luke you’re welcome buddy 👍🤓👍
Hey Mev sounds like you feel a little better. Always enjoy your video❤️
Thank you that’s really appreciated 👍🤓👍
Finished cupboard looks lovely Mel ,good job you didn't use red paint though for the draws or you would have probably been MAROONED in your van till it dried haha
Haha that’s brilliant thank you 👍🤓👍
The Cat helps wonderfull. :)
Thank you 👍🤓👍
youre the first person i know who use bodyfiller on wood.... usually wood filler is used .... but u know what, its a good idea... i should try that.... does it look good after vs wood filler ?
Hi thanks for your comment it Looks no different once you paint over it have a go 👍🤓👍
Clever stuff Mel ! Less is more in van design !
Thank you definitely I allways say keep it simple 👍🤓👍
Might be easier if I get some storage bins and build the framework to fit them. Thanks
Great idea 👍
You can buy two part wood filler too
I’m sure you can I just had this big old tin of body filler so used that 👍🤓👍
Hey Mel, great job as usual and hello from Australia!
Gd Day mate thank you 👍🤓👍
great job with the units mate , nice to see your getting back to the normal mel and the bugs bugged off , i never knew upol did filler , i sprayed my whole t4 with upol raptor paint and man its great gear that , after i painted it the guys from t4-t5 camper mag had me out on a photo shoot , but never knew they did filler. good tip that id have used wood filler but body filler will have more flex in it , great tip. ALSO are you going to the caravan camping and motorhome show in the NEC next month , if so let me know we can have a coffee and trash some new builds
Cheers mate I got no plans to go NEC sorry 😐 👍🤓👍
I’m sure we will get to met up one day and have a coffee 👍🤓👍
Looking good, glad to hear you are feeling better. Sanding so fast, are you the Six Million Pound man? Cabinet looks very "country" style, I really don't care for that modern look to new motorhomes.
Thank you 😂😂🤓👍
If you've left masking tape on too long and it doesn't want to come off, heat it up with a hair dryer and it should peel away much more easily!
Thank you that’s a great idea 👍🤓🍻👍
