Such a great review! Thanks for the knowledge about the screws and the RAM. I appreciate the effort and actual original opinion you put into this
I got the 4K model last year with 16gb Ram and 256 SSD. And couldn’t be happier the screen is incredible. Luckily I found a discount code and only paid $1,375.00 out the door. And they were running a special for extended warranties so I got a 4 year full service for only $275. If your ready to buy make sure you search for a discount code online it will save you hundreds
oh thanks you also save me 100s of dollars I am also Interested in buying XPS 15 4k or Macbook pro 13 base model can you suggest any option I think XPS is clear winner
the thing i love about the non redesign of that computer is that pieces are all compatibles from the first one to this one, so if my motherboars dies in my precision 5510 i can replace it with any other using this chassi.
and the design is already so good i have zero complains about it
Considering its target audience, why does Dell insist on combined Home, End, PgUp, PgDn keys instead of dedicated keys? Developers, writers, video editors, and photo editors all use those keys a lot. I _really_ hate having to use awkward combinations to access what should be easy functionality.
The new dell xps 13 has those PgUp and PgDn dedicated keys so it's safe to say that the xps 15 will have those probably in next year model which will be a huge upgrade internally with the intel 9th generation and RTX
dont expect rtx lol
the 2050 ot 2060 will not be rtx, but gtx instead
@@tgdhsuk3589 im pretty sure 2xxx will all have rtx just like 1xxx was all pascal 9xx maxwell 7xx kepler etc
Based on what I've heard, 2050 and 2060 will actually not have rtx, just like LegendaryVegeta says
I actually like this layout better than dedicated keys on laptops. The reason being is because I like to have my hands in one area of the keyboard instead of finding the other buttons by feel. I've actually become quite fast with this layout. I still will not ever buy another XPS 15 until they get rid of the stupid camera location.
I'm writing from my 9575. I love it.
I found that even parts of the lid and the palm rests are magnetized, I was really surprised
Please read before buying the Dell XPS 15 9570!
I have had the Del Xps 15 9570 for over a month now and what these review videos don't tell you is that the laptop has huge problem especially with sound drivers (loud crackling) and screen flicker.
Just search on forums and you'll see that a huge percentage of buyers are considering returning the laptop because there is no permeant fix.
Just wanted to warn you about this.
Boas Andreasen thank you for the heads up man! I was looking to get this. Maybe I should get the 9560 instead?
@@whiteexpress94 not sure. My laptop is currently under repair.
Boas Andreasen I wish Dell has better quality management, I've just started University and wanted to order this laptop but at the same time I don't want to risk having any issues. You'd expect better for the price. The worst part is that there isn't really any other laptop compatible to this spec wise (GTX 1050, sleek design, compact, 4K display, etc.).. I hope yours gets fixed well
Btw still haven't gotten the laptop back from repair. It's been 7 weeks and they're saying it will be delivered next week.
@@boasa That's crazy.. I actually bought an XPS 15 9570 a few weeks ago lol. My drivers are also cracking but I found out it's a software issue and not hardware, plus I've found a temporary fix that seems to work- but I need a long term solution of course.
1 month of xps 9570 use: 2 displays replaced - 3 times serviced and all of them had back light bleed, one time keyboard replaced - one time fix by myself, screws for back panel replaced too.
How the fuck did you...
Samsung NVME drivers cause issues with windows 10 on the 9550. Users on the 9550 are forced to use version 2.0 of the NVME driver to keep the system stable. With later versions, the system will completely freeze up after a while of usage and require a hard reboot to work again till the next freeze shows up. Perhaps Dell hasn't fixed the issue yet with the 9560 and 9570 and hence using Thoshiba drives and drivers.
I got the Dell xps 150570 i78050H with 16gb ram and gtx1050Ti and 4k display with 256gb ssd and i love it best laptop i got for school yet
Just received i7 1080p one and love it!
same but have you had any problems with yours.?
@@jefferysanchez5605 no problem at all! I wish there was a numpad and that the arrows were not as small. Other than that, I love it!
Olivier Audet agreed . I’ve been noticing my battery is acting up but i think I’m still getting used to it since it’s my first
Laptop ever. I usually do my work on a Desktop (MAC)
@@jefferysanchez5605 battery life on mine seems to be really good! Maybe you should check with dell while it's under warranty...
Olivier Audet okay I will thanks again ! 💯‼️
I have XPS 15, and it's great
I have the same one . And came here if I could find some useful information
I was almost pushing th "buy" button, really happy when I've heard about the BIG DCP latency issue on DELL Xps 15 laptops. As music producer, it is a huge deal breaker for me. Do you heard of it? It's all around the Internet!... Now I'm quite upset because I don't know what to buy for my needs, the XPS seemed so perfect for me!
The specific review I was looking for! Thank you! I thought I needed the i7 but I may just consider the i5 and save a bit :)
I bought this computer and just received it today
Are you satisfied after 3 months?
Proud owner of a 9360, thanks for the good review :)!
PS: I've tried Maglev and... it was infuriating. That's just not a keyboard I want, ever.
I really hope they keep that shite out of the main XPS line.
MagLev is divisive, for sure.
I like having a seperate power supply port as it does not take up one of your charging port, even with laptops with 2 or more usbc ports.
Tips in removing dell bottom screws. Dell torx screws are mounted slightly angled so you need to slant the screwdriver slightly to avoid stripping the head. Use torx t6. And push the top part of your precision screwdriver so the torx teeth will have a good bite at the screw head and wont slip. Hahaha i also learn that the hard way.
Thank you for these tips!! 🙂👌👍🙏💙
Came here for the wallpaper can't get a quality link... Anyone have at least 1080p please
In Europe we have the best modell of this Laptop in my opinion. It has an i5 8300h with 8gb of ram, 256gb sdd, 97wh battery and a gtx 1050 (could be a max-q, i'm not quite sure) from the last generation and has a full hd display. It even outperforms the last gen modell with the i7 7700hq and because you can open this laptop quite easily, upgrading the ram is also not a problem. I got this laptop for myself with 10% off as a student for around 1259€ which is quite a good deal compared to over laptops in the same price range at the moment (except for some chinese ones, but yeah, no real warrenty with these ones).
EDIT: Wow, one of the first youtubers you cover all the points I had. I'm impressed.
Why most “productivity” laptop doesnt make 3:2 aspect ratio displays? It’s kinda a shame to keep 16:9 for media consumption on a “productivity” laptop.
been saying this for about 2 years now....3:2 is sooooooooooooo much nicer
I've been considering the XPS 13 (or 15) since halfway through high school, now that I'm in college I was hoping that I'd finally have a lightweight laptop to use. But instead I found myself stuck with no laptop it all. I'm using my phone for all my assignments. 😭
To answer your question, the reason why Dell uses the Toshiba SSD is because Dell is now part owner of the Toshiba Chip division, which manufactures RAM & SSD. The division has been sold by Toshiba to a consortium that's led by Bain Capital & also includes SK Hynix, Apple Inc, Dell Technologies, Seagate Technology and Kingston Technology.
My HP Omen has been having some difficult times booting up on the hard drive against my Dell XPS 8920 tower. I might get this one instead.
I've tried repairing the laptop (9550), and not only the screws but also every single components on this laptop is easily broken (easily broken in comparison to even a MacBook Pro). The battery plug is extremely fragile, so every time I pull and plug there would be a bit that breaks off. The other I/O mini plugs can be intact only if you use a perfectly sized pry tool. But apart from the fragile components, everything is easily accessible and it only took one fifth of the time to replace or repair anything than do on a MacBook Pro.
Still the macbook pro doesn't come in a 4k panel neither a touch screan nor a Deticated graphics card see and it's much expinseve
What about the claims of thermal throttling while gaming? Would have liked to hear your take on that
Not just gaming, but almost any serious task. The temps go 90+ immediately, with crazy throttling. No engineering here, just pure marketing.
Watching this from my new Dell XPS 15 i7
How did you get the core i5 with the GTX 1050ti and the touchscreen? It’s not an available configuration on Dell’s website.
different places get different options. super odd, but usually how it goes
Actually, this one is the 1050, not 1050Ti.
I was wondering this too. This i5 version that was reviewed has everything that I need (except 4k) to balance power and batter but I cant find this config on Dell.
@@bradhaines3142 honestly id be happy if it had an i5 with 1050 or 1050max q along with a 97w battery. I personally would hope they could come up with a 74w battery so it could still fit a 2.5 inch drive . Would be nice having 2 different slots. For a slighy hit in battery life
same, was looking into getting the i5 1080 version. that would be ideal but can't seem to find it
The 10 T5 screws are not an issue, in fact there is less chance of stripping them with the right bit. You'll ethier receive the Toshiba SSD or Hynix, I'm not sure the criteria here but it could be geographic based. The hynix drive isn't bad at all, while won't compete with an EVO in benchmarks in real world usage it's doubtful you'll notice the difference.
Must have been using the wrong size bit for removing those screws, no issues with the proper torx bit at all. Just need to make sure it’s seated down all the way into the head.
What is the current battery life you are experiencing? Many people in Dell forums complain about 4 hour battery backup with normal usage.
if you buy the core I9, take it off and put on some liquid metal for better thermal, it actually does works and fairly easy on XPS machine.
I really hope this video came out last week. The screws omg so easily to be stripped. I tried to remove the case so I could replace the thermal paste and ssd. God, I stripped the two screws in the back central under the cover on my first try. Be careful or have someone very very experienced and equiped. I ended up paying an expert 100 for drilling out the screws and swapping ssd and thermal paste
Why would you change a brand new SSD and thermal paste?
seconded. I did not strip those two philips-headed screws, but I came damn near close on the first one. They require a fair bit a torque because they are set with loctite, and holy crap these are soft screws. Not as big a deal with the T5's for me but damn be careful on your first panel removal.
ships with unknown-brand ssd and pretty awful stock paste, typical of some big-brand laptops (apple is pretty famous for this, going years back). I bought the 1TB NVMe, which turned out to be a toshiba. Top-speed sequential read on my config came out at about 3100MB/s, no slouch to be sure, but I ended up putting in a 970 EVO, which was a teeny bit snappier with sequential reads at 3500MB/s and some improvement in various other random reads/writes.
The Toshiba drive that came with shipped in RAID, which is the stock storage config on these. I did not benchmark the drive under the mobo AHCI controller, which might be interesting (if the driver plays ball. I imagine it should).
The 1TB NVME is not unknown. They've been using the Toshiba 1TB NVME drive since the XPS 9550. It's a fantastic drive, I have mine in AHCI mode on my XPS 9550.
I got one stripped I got dell premium support they took it out the screws are really delicate
Please show what is inside that case just like what Dave Lee and Mobiletechreview does. Really hard to imagine how to get and what is inside.
Thanks for pointing that out! Added link in the description for the written instructions along with images. www.windowscentral.com/how-add-more-ram-dell-xps-15-9570
Owner of a MBP for 11 years, I bought the XPS 9560 core i7, 15"- non touch display, exactly one year ago. If you like apple MBP, and you're searching for the next best (cheaper) thing, the XPS is not gonna cut it. The honeymoon feeling will last a mere 3 to 4 months max, until it will wear off and you will start missing a MBP all over again. Too many issues occuring within 1 year. I decided to sell my XPS.
Buy surface book 2...
I can say that mostly happened because of windows
Thank you so much for making this review it was amazing! 🙂👌👍🙏May I please ask what type of screws you should buy to replace the originals? 💙
I want a 17.6 inch version to add to the 13 and 15. I want an i9, 1070 Max q, 2 full thunderbolt 3 ports 4.5k screen to account for the bigger size, more mechanical switches, etc.
I cannot recommend this machine. There are so many little glitches with it that it's really not a pleasure to use. I've had problems with the keystrokes not registering (solved with a workaround, not an official solution from Dell), double-clicks in certain apps don't work, after a BIOS and/or wifi card driver update the PC would lose its internet connection for no reason and cause Windows to generally start going haywire, the fans come on when you're doing the smallest task, and Dell even found a way to keep the machine warm when it's supposed to be asleep or hibernating! Oh, and the palm rest, as nice as it looks when it's pristine, is impossible to keep clean. So yeah, I am having serious buyer's regret with this thing.
I think that's a bit harsh. Every machine has its problems, and this is particularly the case with higher-spec machines. I have one and overwhelmingly I have been happy with it.
The XPS 9570 is far superior to the Macbook Pro, which I see as its direct competitor. In particular, the XPS handles intensive tasks far, far better than the Apple offering. Yes the fans are a bit loud at times, but that shows Dell is serious about thermal management, unlike Apple which let their Macbook Pros over-heat and then thermal throttle them so much that you may as well have saved yourself a thousand bucks and bought the regular MB or Air.
When you consider how much CHEAPER the XPS is, it's a no brainer. XPS 9570 over MBP ANY DAY.
The 4K screen is gorgeous and is the best screen I have EVER seen on ANY device - laptop, phone TV, you name it.
They look good and the aluminum finish is quality. Yes, the black carbon fiber on the inside smudges, but it's also black, which is ideal for keeping the 4K screen the focus of your experience.
Worst thing for me - the webcam placement. Dell should be refreshing soon and it's expected that they will move the camera to the top of the bezel. They have already done so with the 13" model refresh recently.
Just disable Turbo Boost and do some undervolting and the fans barely kick in most of the time, sure, it does lower the performance a bit but at least it keeps your laptop cooler and quieter, basically silent.
And also do a fresh install of Windows 10 and remember to uninstall all bloatware and disable all unnecessary settings.
Won’t buy anything until they master how to make a good performance and great battery at 4k, which is probably late next year or the next, will keep saving money until then to buy something mind blowing
We think a like, that is what I want too and I don't want to be carrying anything heavy around either. The lighter the better.
Im watching this video on that exact same laptop, but the I7 $1500 model I got some 3-4 months back.
There are a few things that I think should be mentioned,
- the speakers are really mediocre to say the best, they just don't sound good and their location only makes things worse.
- the trackpad is okay, but I don't love it:/ it's not a dell thing and it's common on windows laptops, but should be mentioned
- the laptop actually is dead silent if you change the power configuration to quiet when on battery, which is awesome. (also helps save battery)
- the battery life is just amazing with this laptop, I leave at 7am and come back home around 8-9pm with around 10-20% left and I use my laptop extensively for college. That means videos in the background, google docs, discord and bluetooth headphones basically as long as the thing is on.
- the keyboard is really good like they mentioned, it's not too shallow but easy to get used to, I type much faster on it than my desktops keybaord.
- If you like a good notebook and want to game on the side, this thing is perfect. I can play games like Metro Last light on medium, native res (1080) and get from 50-80 FPS. The most intensive game that I own? I don't want to install GTA V given its install size.
- I do love the idea that I can upgrade it, but i'm really annoyed that the SSD included is decent, but it's not fast like you'd really want. Not that most people would complain about it, but something like a Samsung evo 500GB drive would make this thing *soooo* much faster.
- Oh, and the screen, it's awesome, I have the 1080p panel and there are some people that ask me about it given it's still a very unique look for a laptop.
Since you use it for college and carry it around a lot, how do you feel about the weight?
I doesn't bother me really, im used to carrying around a 2010 macbook pro and a old thinkpad T430. It's noticeably lighter than both of those and it doesn't get in the way. But it's not 2018 Macbook or Macbook air at all. Something I wish for sometimes but I think it's worth it since the trade off with weight comes in very large battery and really good performance
great video, OMG, having recently purchased a 2018 dell 15 9570, recently I was not made aware of a swelling battery issue. I am curious as to know if you have hade to replace the battery at all and how long are the batteries rated to last? Was there any error and or alert that the Windows OS gave you in your discovery of the battery problem, that is did you perform a diagnostic which informed you prior? This really sucks, to where I may now consider returning the laptop for this reason. Thanks
Nice review! First video I've seen of you. How is screen uniformity on your unit? Mine doesn't have good uniformity well at least in my opinion. I am just spoiled by my very even desktop monitor.
Hey guys. Could anyone please share that wallpaper with us? So far all the sources we had are really poor quality.
How much battery life I can expect from the base model of Dell XPS 15 with 3 cells 56whr battery with normal usage, youtube videos. Can I watch 2 movies continuously ?
Did I hear correctly that this device supports a stylus?
Because I don't see anything mentioned on the Dell website. If it does it would be an absolute game breaker for me?
If money isn't an issue persay, is the i9 better than the i7 for video editing?
No, you will get the heating problems with the i9, so i7 is best option if money is not the issue.
Love this laptop the only grip I have with it is the crackling nose coming from the speakers and headphone.
I believe they didn't update the design because they're waiting for the new nvidia gpus to perfect the thermal design. I agree with their decision because the sole cpu upgrade isn't enough to justify an upgrade from the previous models.
What about 2 terabytes ssd? Samsung evo 970 2tb ?
I just bought a Dell XPS 15 9570 with 512GB SSD storage and want to increase its storage. Can I add a 512GB Samsung Evo 960 without removing the existing drive, therefore making it 1TB?
great review bro
with that screw complaint that is really weird i have taking mine apart about 5 times and haven't had a problem maybe your bits aren't the right size
Not sure how you were able to get the i5 option with the 4K touchscreen? It's not available on either the Canadian or American Dell stores. On the North American stores, the i5 is only available with the smaller battery, no dedicated GPU, and 1080P screen.

Am I the only one who has issues with the trackpad being too sensitive? If I just graze it at the same time I am moving the cursor over say a youtube video it clicks it. I have changed the trackpad sensitivity to the lowest setting.
I want to buy for my school to do stuff like multimedia, photography, web design and writing, new media, social media, design, and videography. Do you think i5 with GTX 1050 is fine or should I better go for i7 GTX 1050Ti? Or do I need more powerful graphic then 1050Ti for my stuff?
Great video! Quick question, I'm planning on getting a Dell XPS soon and will get the Samsung EVO SSD and upgrade it. Is it worth replacing the SSD before first booting up the laptop for the first time? Thanks :)
Should I pick dell 9570, HP new spectre x360, or Zenbook Pro UX550GE? May i ask some advice about others which have i7 8750h with 4K touchscreen?
I am much more concerned about heat here. Obviously the i7 would finish first but does the i7 get noticeably hotter than the i5 when running the same tasks? Even though they are both 45W?
Also, would the battery life on the i5 be considerably better than that of the i7? Thanks
I'll explain more about that though later
Vishal Sharma 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I was thinking that!!
I have the smaller battery version of this laptop, is there any way i could upgrade to the bigger one?
Hey I'm thinking of getting a dell xps 13 soon for school. I'm just wondering whether I should get Rose Gold/White or Silver/Black
How about Pen for 9570? Dell don't list it in support list? They are many of screens with 4K?
But Windows still has the laggy task view when you do three fingers swipe up. Same with my XPS 9560.
Is this version touchscreen without the 4k display
5:33 NOT quadcore. Is Hexa-core, hence the H in the end of the processor name.
i5 is quad core lol...
Where do you get all the cool wallpaper ?
What is the refresh rate? And how good is this laptop for gaming?(dell XPS 15 9570)
If gaming is the intent get the g7 series...you get a 1060max q and even a i7 for less than the xps. PLUS thermals!!!!
I disagree with the advice to get the i5. If you only want 4 cores and 8 threads, you can get last year's model with a warranty for much cheaper. Get the 9570 if you want 6 cores, get the 9560 if you don't.
Should I get this laptop or the surface book 2 since I'm looking for a laptop that can be used for school entry level gaming and a media consumption. The thermal problems on the xps 15 was putting me off should I be worried?
I have a question, I'm planning on buying a laptop for photo and music editing/ production and deciding between either the Huawei matebook x pro or the Dell xps 15. Any suggestions?
late reply, but the best bang for your buck would be the matebook x pro. i had the matebook x pro i7 and now own the xps 15 with the i7 as well. I prefer the design of the matebook over the xps. i like the 3:2 aspect ratio. The keyboard and performance is better on the xps and you ge the full lane thunderbolt 3. i would get the xps due to the huawei controversy. there are rumors windows will stop supporting windows updates with huawei. hope this helps.
Nice review
Is this okay for minor gaming and intensive programming?
0:50 "more silver" & " mirror logo" ahhh why? Grey and Black ftw. Now it looks exactly like my xps17 but the newer version (or now older) was so much nicer for me
I love how you replaced the screw. Im looking at the top right 3:04 and you used the wrong one. Shit why are you replacing shit that will not fit.
the laptop is fast. But the suspend mode doesn't work properly... I am unhappy with it
I just got the XPS 15 9560. Should i return it and get this one?
It cost around £1600/$2095. It's okay, but i'm not satisfied considering the cost.
I'd rather pay a little more if it means the performance and quality matches the price.
What specs did you get for it? I just bought the 9570 with the i7, 16GB, 512GB SSD with 2 year premium warranty for less than what you paid. I think you should return it.
Chris That is a really great price for the 9570. I got the 9560 with 4K Touchscreen, i7, 16GB, 512GB SSD, Nvidia GTX 1050 and Windows Pro edition. I'm not sure about the warranty to be honest. I got it from Amazon, but maybe i should get a refund and find a 9570 bargain at another online store.
Return it. I have had the 9560 and I have 9570 now and I can feel the power difference. The screen is night and day different too. 9570 is brighter and much better as far as whites and doesn't have that bluish tint. I recently bought a refurbished 9560 for a client and when I sat that next to my 9570 at full brightness, it was incredible. Return your 9560. They have awesome deals right now until the 17th on Dell Refurbished site for $150.00 off a 9570 too!
Youll be glad you did.
@@duchenedesignsolutions7036 Should I return mine as well? I got a new 9560 with a 4k display, i7-7700H, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD, for $1578.00.
I thought USB type C charging was limited to 100 Watts. Is that not the case?
It is, the reviewer seems to not be aware of this, the 9570 higher specced versions with the i9 plus 1050 Ti Max Q would definitely need a 150W charger so his theory about 2 USB type C is more about fanboyism than anything else
Not entirely. Dell XPS 15 9575 ships with a Core i7-8705G and Radeon RX Vega M GL graphics *and* a 130W Type-C adapter to power it all. No surprise the *same* charger from Dell handles the XPS 15 9570 just fine too. In fact, it's the only charger we use with it. The barrel charger? Also 130W. It's the same charger just different connector so no, not fanboyism. Our analysis is still correct.
Dell ships the XPS 15 9575 (2-in-1) with a 130W Type-C adapter, which handles the Core i7-8705G and Radeon RX Vega M GL graphics. That charger also works just fine with the XPS 15 9570 here, and, in fact, is what I use daily with it. The barrel charger is the same - 130W - just with a barrel connector instead of Type-C. Same charger otherwise, so we stand by our assessment here.
I stand corrected. If Dell can pull out an extra 30 watts, more power to them.
