Brilliant video man, thanks for this. It's a shame they used Toshiba over Samsung. Also upgraded the WifiCard to the Intel AC-Wireless 9260 as the Killer kept losing connection. The new card also features BT 5.0. The range really does improve. Again, Thanks for a great video Matt!
Matt, I'm really thinking to use an e-GPU such as Nvidia RTX 2080Ti with the AKiTiO Node Pro as I want to be able to do more with after effects and I like AE and PP to work as real time as possible. Thank you so much for making this video. I’m currently working with a desktop build that was originally meant for short 1080p videos. But as my career has expanded I’ve been in desperate need of a computer upgrade. While I did upgrade the desktop a bit more by adding in a new i7 processor, I knew I wanted to make the change to primarily storing on the desktop and having a laptop as a my main computer. I was sooooo tired of being locked away in my room like the hunchback of notre dam. I wanted the flexibility of being able to at least be in the presence of my family as I edit, and this new laptop will give me that. It should be coming in within the next few days (i did opt for the 4K touch screen, but I’m mainly the most excited about a shorter rendering time, hallelujah lol). Sorry for the ramble, but I say allllll this to say THANK YOU for making your channel. I get so much value out of your content. Stay awesome
Picked up this same laptop a few months ago & have been editing all my 4k footage with it. I totally agree with you about it being a really great portable editing machine, by the way love your weddings videos/tutorials. Yewwww!
Hi, I would greatly appreciate some advice. I'm thinking about buying an XPS 15, how loud is the laptop when using it normally (web browing etc) and when video editing? And how hot does it get? Many thanks
@@t.jquiroz3657 I use this laptop for 1080p video editing, photoshop, illustrator and after effects, and it has not failed me once. It is capable of handling 4k 60 frames with ease. And I also love the fact that battery life, port selection and portability of this laptop is amazing. If all these points check your demand, I think it is a good option for you. Fantastic review Matt. I have the previous model with i7 2.8 Ghz processor (4 cores/8 threads), 32GB RAM and HD 630 grahics + GTX 1050 vid card. I'm getting really decent performance still with Da Vinci Resolve Studio grading 4K footage. I'd love to upgrade to a 6 or 8 core version, but cost is huge so may have to wait a while longer. Appreciate the depth you went into with your review, very helpful.
I know your channel and video are focused on video editing, and the video editing aspects of this Laptop. I have one for the same purpose, and I love it! However, it must be noted that the audio drivers, sound card, and Waves software on this laptop are BUTT! After a deep dive, many people on the Dell support pages and Dell subreddit have this problem. There's a lot of unnecessary latency, which leads to crackling and static. MaxxAudioPro is also enabled by default, which makes dialogue and vocals sound like they're being spoken into a Pringles can. This actually can be an issue during video editing too, but this is most obvious using DAWs and other audio production software. More reviews on RUclips should point this out! Thanks for the review Matt. Good stuff.
I agree. Did you find a solution to these issues? I've been using a Dell docking station and running the audio out from there. Seems to sound better. The headphone jack straight out of the laptop sounds awful.
Dude! I was researching this laptop like crazy and was looking to your channel for a review! Finally you do... Bought my XPS 15 ten days ago! XD stoked for it to come in.

Would love to hear your thoughts on the Precision 5530 compared to the XPS! Same chassis, better internals. Is it worth the price and performance boost or is it overkill? Thanks!
Hey Trent! I considered the 5530 when buying this laptop, but the increased price for minimal gain wasn’t worth it to me. The main benefit of the 5530 would be the upgrade to a Nvidia Quadro gpu. The the main reason to buy a quadro for video editing is to enable 10-bit color for your monitor when editing. Because this laptop doesn’t have a 10-bit screen though, it’s kinda useless haha. Not worth it to me.
Super helpful mate! Been traveling the last six months so have been editing on the same old Asus gaming computer and have been on the look out for an upgrade!
Hi Matt, I'm new to video editing and learned a lot from your review. You mentioned twice that this laptop was great if you don't work from home. Why? Also, I would love to see a review on less expensive models. Thanks!

Just got mine after trying to edit 4K with my MB Pro from 2013. And I got it totally loaded. I am very happy that I got it. Having used Mac forever and apple produces I could not see spending $2000 more for something equal to the machine. Apple is just trying to make us pay way more so it looks like there profits are still up to their stock holders and they are selling product like they use to do. I’ts time for people to quit kissing apples sweet core (he he) and get one that is cheaper but better. One thing you did not mention was it is up gradeable. Just unscrew the back!!!!!! Congrats on the beautiful baby.
fast forward a few years and I just bought a Dell 5580 i7-7820HQ with 32GB ram and a 1TB SSD for video editing in 1080. I don't do 4K :) thanks for the viddeo.
I am currently watching this video on a Dell XPS 15 9570. The funny part is that I chose the exact specs that Matt said he would've chose if he could buy it again. I just went with the 1 TB SSD only because I have unlimited Google Drive Storage. I did not purchase an upgraded warranty, but when it started crashing during video edits, their customer service team was very helpful. First, I spent 2 hours on a Saturday running tests that showed everything was working great. Then the speakers stopped working so I sent the laptop to them. They ended up replacing the battery, lcd, and the motherboard which was all covered by the most basic warranty. Since then I have had no problems, but if it had been a Macbook Pro, I would have been screwed.
@@hamzaimran1991 I don't use it too much for photo editing. The fans do run loud sometimes and the laptop can get warm. However, this is desktop performance in a portable form so I'm not complaining too much.
I have an XPS 15 that is a few years old, it can edit 4K with proxies only, i would love to have one of the new 8 core XPS beasts, thanks for the very informative review of this laptop Matt.
Hi, I would greatly appreciate some advice. I'm thinking about buying an XPS 15, how loud is the laptop when using it normally (web browing etc) and when video editing? And how hot does it get? Many thanks
I've been experiencing overheating, thermal throttling and reduced battery life from 4 hrs to 2 hrs the day after my warranty ended. I love the XPS line though. I've been looking forward to the OLED version but wonder how 'ghosting'
I've got the 9560 and it's a great machine and I have no plan to upgrade but I think this is a great review. If you need a tool, go get one and don't wait for the next great laptop or suffer from paralysis by analysis. KUTGW
Battery life is pretty much a null point because without it being plugged in, it's not supplying sufficient power to the GPU. Editing on battery power would be very painful...
The upgradability of this laptop is also crazy too, upgrading the RAM to 32 GBs is something that's easy to do yourself and you can pop in a 1 TB Samsung EVO that would be faster than the stock SSD as well. 4 Lanes of PCIe through thunderbolt also means that you can easily attach an eGPU better than the highest mobile 1050 inside it if you need the GPU performance which also helps the longevity of the machine.
Hi Matt, thanks for the review! could i please request you to give more details on the color accuracy as the update has totally messed up mine and am debating investing in a calibrating tool so any help on that section would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, and good luck with the channel. I don't do professional work but need to print a lot of pictures.
I have the XPs 15 9570, i7 32GB & 1TB, 4k touch. three weeks after getting it in mid Nov. it total failure mid-day while it was sitting idle. Dell replaced the MB. Haven't had any problems since. Use Pinnacle Studio22 for 4k footage, PS 6 & LR for stills. Love the screen, great machine.
Grats on the kid :D I'd love to see a video were you list other options. I'm sure there are a ton of people who want to pay around 2k, don't care much about the screen but just want to have a well performing Laptop for editing.
Hey Matt Fantastic review, so easily explained, I just subscribed 😊 Question, tomorrow I am purchasing the XP’s 15 9570, and I’m just starting to learn video editing Because of price, I chose the i7-8750H 9mb cache 4.1 GHz ( 6 core processor 1920x1080 as a posed to the 4K / will I still be ok? Also what editing program should I purchase? Thanks again Dave
I had this XPS for five months. I had many issues. It didn’t recognise the charger. The screen bleed made watching videos and Netflix a pain, not the great experience I was expecting from a high end laptop. The sound went crazy after a bios update four weeks ago. Dell sent a tech guy to replace the motherboard, the screen and the speakers. BitLocker had been set up by Dell so when the new components were replaced the laptop was locked. Dell solution was a fresh install of Windows. All my info would be wiped……NOT GOOD! I had done my research but Dell are doing quite a lot wrong. I don’t want to but maybe it’s time to go back to Apple. Any suggestions?
The exhaust fan is located behind the hinge, it looks cleanner, but the screen is actually blocking the vent out. I got my unit for little under 1200$ for i5/8300H/8GB/256G and I plan to upgrade RAM and SSD later, and i dont think you need that 8750H because it is going to thermal throttle anyway.
What about the temp, is this new dell xps no speed throttling? M using Illegear Selenith with GTX1060 with a thin 17.3" 144hz and whole thin body profile and great temp mgt and no throttling. Battery 5-7 hrs
Crispy review. I've got an i7 model with a 4k screen and something that drives me nuts is how the screen will change brightness depending on how much of the screen is taken by dark content. With the latest bios you can't even uncheck an adaptive brightness setting in the power plan, and my intel display power saving is turned off too. I don't have Dell PremiereColor installed, so frankly, I dunno why the hell it still changes brightness. By far my biggest gripe with it, which I suppose says a lot about how good it is.
Just urchased A Dell XPS 15 2-in-1 9575 15.6" 4K UHD Touch i7-8705G 16GB RAM 1TB SSD Radeon RX Vega M 4GB Fingerprint Windows 10 Pro (Certified Refurbished) from Amazon (with 4 year complete replacement warranty) and I agree with you. Although I am not a pro, I do edit in 4K and it blows away my ASUS desktop PC made for video editing. I had not been a fan of Dell because of poor quality in the past (many, many years ago), but now I am a believer. Thanks for this review. It gives me confidence I made the right choice for my use of this machine. BTW,. I love the fact I can use this like a tablet, although, it is quite large. Makes editing in tight spaces easy with the pen.
@@pedalandypedal I edit my Iphone and Phantom 4 footage, mainly for personal use. I do not use proxies. I tried it with my ASUS, but it still lagged. I can use the original file with the Dell with very little lag.
I purchased this laptop recently. I run a medium size company and wanted a business machine for normal business stuff, spreadsheets, powerpoint, etc. I do some photography/videography as a creative outlet type of thing. Based on all rave review purchased one...especially like the 4k touch screen. BEWARE...this is the quirkiest laptop I have ever owned...4 months in already considering handing down to a subordinate and getting a new non-dell machine. Locks up 3-4 times a day, runs unbelievably slow...had our IT folks look at it half a dozen times to no avail. Strongly recommend against buying this laptop. Company wide we have far higher degree of problems with Dell machines which are now no longer approved for purchase.
Hey Matt! Awesome video, this review in particular sold me on the 9570 XPS 15. However, I'm noticing some sluggishness while in Premiere Pro with the GUI. 4K video plays smoothly, no problem. But as soon as I go to edit and move around the timeline Premiere is slow to respond and it's driving me nuts. Have you experienced this issue and/or have any advice? I have the same specs as you (i9, 32gb RAM, 1050-Ti, 4K display, 2TB SSD)
Hey, i'm sorry if you mentioned it somewhere in the video but what kind of 4k footage are you editing on this laptop? I just bought this laptop and am praying to be able to edit Braw 4k with it. Atleast with proxies.
I recently bought this laptop the 1080p version i7... it has sooo much hardware and software problems i do not recomend for the price. It over heats espesially when plugged in the fans will run all the time on low tasks an over heat. The fans keep going on and off every 2 secs this is a very commom issue... i have had a replacement and it still had all these problems. Also this laptop does not sleep.... the fans stay on when the lid is closed and its plugged in...
@@yasserfarid8904 I think so. I haven't had the problem myself but I've heard that's the fix. You could probably Google it and find more info from articles or Reddit. Good luck!
Would it looks over-saturated on your laptop? Because I'm bought this laptop with the I7-8750 version, and have very serious saturated problem, which affect me on color grading my photo or video
Love the review of this! I was just looking at one of these TODAY lol. At the Microsoft store (haha). Thank you for your awesome, targeted, very specific to MY needs review (and very thorough). Going to check out the prices and updates to CPU and monitor now...Thanks again!
Matt.. please in your opinion what is the better song website for comercial usage?. not personal... is artilist the better? because they offer comercial use.. instead of Musicbed they charge too much for the same,, is it correct? thank you for any help
The problem w/ the XPS isn't the specs. It's just in the details. Dell's QC is very hit or miss. I really like my 9570. But the thing that holds it back is constantly having to troubleshoot random issues. Some being caused by dell's software, some by windows, some by the hardware: - Sound from the speakers were crackling by default. Was able to resolve it. - Sound drivers randomly crash after resuming from hibernate requiring a reboot. Unsure if this is still happening after latest driver update. - Fans CONSTANTLY turning on/off under minimum load. Turns out Dell's bios intentionally ramps up fans every time the nvidia GPU gets "activated" even if it's only activated for a split second for Windows to check temp status. - Keyboard presses not being registered. Fixed after bios update. Right now as I'm typing this laptop is fantastic. Comfortable. Fast. It's just inconsistent. Today it's fine. Tomorrow problems might pop up again. I will also give Dell support the thumbs up. Having a tech stop by my home and replace a broken fan in 5 minutes is MUCH better than going w/o my laptop for a week while apple fixes it. Then having to drive there twice for the initial drop off, and pick up.
Do you edit video or store photos on a thunderbolt drive? The internal drive isnt large enough to hold many projects. Id like to go this route if rendering off an thunderbolt drive is still good performance. I dont want to have to be copying projects to and from the internal; drive to seal with its Fast; but finite space

I'm on a budget, would the xps 4k i7 16gb Radeon rx Vega 256gb SSD work for 4k video editing?
fast forward a few years and I just bought a Dell 5580 i7-7820HQ with 32GB ram and a 1TB SSD for video editing in 1080.
How are the thermals during photo editing?
@@hamzaimran1991 I don't use it too much for photo editing. The fans do run loud sometimes and the laptop can get warm. However, this is desktop performance in a portable form so I'm not complaining too much.
I have an XPS 15 that is a few years old, it can edit 4K with proxies only, i would love to have one of the new 8 core XPS beasts, thanks for the very informative review of this laptop Matt.
Absolutely amazing review, full of useful information tailored just to video editors!
Watching this on my XPS 15
Hi, I would greatly appreciate some advice. I'm thinking about buying an XPS 15, how loud is the laptop when using it normally (web browing etc) and when video editing? And how hot does it get? Many thanks
I've been experiencing overheating, thermal throttling and reduced battery life from 4 hrs to 2 hrs the day after my warranty ended. I love the XPS line though. I've been looking forward to the OLED version but wonder how 'ghosting'
hi, what type of tasks are you doing to cause these issues? thanks! (I'm interested in purchasing)
You are Genuine laptop user.
That light on the right is sooooo cool 👍👍👍
Thank God 🙏 for a review based on long term use 🙏!
Great video thank you! And yes... cheaper versions are interesting to hear 👍
Nice! Glad you got it working :)
Steve Sagnotti what’s the MB
Steve Sagnotti what’s the MB
Grats on the kid :D
I'd love to see a video were you list other options.
I'm sure there are a ton of people who want to pay around 2k, don't care much about the screen but just want to have a well performing Laptop for editing.
Thanks! Definitely wanna talk about cheaper options in the future :)
Hey Matt
Fantastic review, so easily explained, I just subscribed 😊
Question, tomorrow I am purchasing the XP’s 15 9570, and I’m just starting to learn video editing
Because of price, I chose the i7-8750H 9mb cache 4.1 GHz ( 6 core processor 1920x1080
as a posed to the 4K / will I still be ok?
Also what editing program should I purchase?
Thanks again
Dave
man so well detailed review
Very nice review and informative. thank you!
We want cheaper options. Excellent video Matt!
either go for Lenovo laptops, they have all laptops fitting your budget.
After 5 minutes i like you.Subscribed for a content.I am planning to buy this bad boy. What you think about OLED?
Great! Makes me feel good not to be the only creative who prefers Windows over OSX by far.
Thank you! Very helpful review < 3
That’s a strange issue! I haven’t seen anything like that happen with mine thankfully. Really not sure about that.
Makes editing in tight spaces easy with the pen.
what 4k files are you editing, do you use proxies?
Matthew DeCarlo so then maybe RMA it and get it replaced or repaired as per your consumer rights....
Same here 🥺🥺
What about proxy files? What is the lowest spec when using proxy files?
Thank you, very informative
How would the Dell Precision 5560 compare to the XPS 15 for 4K video editing?
Hey, i'm sorry if you mentioned it somewhere in the video but what kind of 4k footage are you editing on this laptop? I just bought this laptop and am praying to be able to edit Braw 4k with it. Atleast with proxies.
Watching this through the same hunking Asus laptop, wishing I have your new laptop now. That'd help my travel videos a lot.
Haha that Asus is great, love the size of the screen, but DEFINITELY not portable
Great video! yes, I do want to see a video about cheaper options, please! Thanks!
Bios/fan/driver updates are reportedly able to fix this problem.
@@benjameetsworld do u update bio and get drivers all from dell websute or from my dell application?
@@yasserfarid8904 I think so. I haven't had the problem myself but I've heard that's the fix. You could probably Google it and find more info from articles or Reddit. Good luck!
Would it looks over-saturated on your laptop? Because I'm bought this laptop with the I7-8750 version, and have very serious saturated problem, which affect me on color grading my photo or video
Hey! Check your Dell Premiere Color app for your color settings on the laptop. See if you can turn it off.
Thank you so much for doing laptop review!
Those thumbnailpicks, love it!
😂😂
The problem w/ the XPS isn't the specs. It's just in the details. Dell's QC is very hit or miss. I really like my 9570. But the thing that holds it back is constantly having to troubleshoot random issues. Some being caused by dell's software, some by windows, some by the hardware:
- Sound from the speakers were crackling by default.
Hey Matt! Do you think "DELL XPS 15 9500 I7-10750H 32GB 1TB SSD" is similar and do a decent job with Premiere Pro?
Will the 9570 still be worth it after 9580 is released?
Do you edit video or store photos on a thunderbolt drive? The internal drive isnt large enough to hold many projects. Id like to go this route if rendering off an thunderbolt drive is still good performance. I dont want to have to be copying projects to and from the internal; drive to seal with its Fast; but finite space
Great! This makes it easier to get a new laptop which someone who really knows editing and PC has tried!
Thanks Gunnar!
@@whoismatt I have an old hardcore Dell Latitude E6420 (work/research computer from my hospital) - that has managed to render a few videos, but I admit, haven't pushed it :-)
This or Macbook Pro for multitasking with simultaneous photo (photoshop), video and music editting without hindering performance?
im looking to buy DELL XPS 15 7590. it has
Windows 10
Intel® Core™ i7-9750H Processor
Hexa-core
- 2.6 GHz / 4.5 GHz
- 12 MB cache
RAM: 16 GB / Storage: 512 GB SSD
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 4 GB.
would you say this is worth it for 4K video editing/lightroom?
Can someone please help me, I bought this laptop and I've been having a lot of trouble keeping the colors when I transfer files. Primarily, I edit photos/videos on the XPS 9570 4kUHD but when I transfer via drop box to my Iphone the colors are so dull and they look so bad. I have to OVER Saturate on the laptop and it looks really bad, to make it look decent when the file transfers over. Does anyone know of anything that can potentially help me? This is really Frustrating and im thinking about returning this and going to Macbook because of this... HELP
i would like to see the cheaper options
Matt, have had issues with the audio on your 9570? I've been suffering from the dreaded high-pitched screeching from the audio jack using my Shure IEMs for months now.
I second this!
@@tylerbowe616 do you know if there are any signs of Dell pushing an update to fix it?
@@eastonlaurence sorry for the late reply, im not aware of any. big bummer!
