    Daniel McCafferty, the lead vocalist for Nazareth. Passed away November 8th 2022.! Just last month! To this day, I've never heard anyone hit those notes that he did in the studio that day!! It's absolutely remarkable .... He will be missed. "Miss Misery" is kickass !!!! AND OF COURSE, HAIR OF THE DOG !!!! 🌹

      Miss Misery is amazing as well, one of my favorites. Also Razamanaz, which just runs like a train with those amazing double bass drums and the vocals are as usual so good as well. And of course Bad Bad Boy, which is also an amazing one.

    Nazareth are from the town of Dunfermline in Scotland. The lead singer is Dan McCafferty. The band usually featured one or two covers per album and had an uncanny knack of making those covers sound better than the original. Their cover of Joni Mitchell's 'This Flight Tonight' is a prime example.

    • @paulmorris8762
      @paulmorris8762 Год назад +2

      as one who never appreciated Joni's talent until I saw her with a back up band of the top jazz musicians (Pat Metheney Lyle Mays Jaco Pastorius) then listening to more of her catalog tho I like Nazareth's cover I wouldn't say Nazareth's cover is better than her. Same with CSNY cover of Woodstock - the live rendition in studio with Joni at piano is stellar

      Singing, playing your instrument...well, drummers having real rhythm and not needing a click track, being able to create real music that moves people, that all went away with ProTools. It's funny coming from an IT admin, but in my view computers have ruined music. When people used tape, and music was analog, the recording process was expensive. The tape and equipment was very expensive. The tape was rarely reused, so it was a one shot deal for that section of the real. Every time you tried to record over something, the quality would deteriorate. For that reason, to help save money for the band, studio, and label, the talent had to be just that...talent. As you can tell by a lot of the bands, looks came second or third behind stage presence.
      Today everything is out of order. It's all about looks. With ProTools, beat detective, and autotune, the studio can fix anything. You could go in and mess up beyond belief and they can fix it. Or, it can be recorded over and over and the quality never deteriorates because it's all written to a hard drive that doesn't care if you use that same sector over and over again. With few exceptions, it's my belief that real music pretty much stopped after 96'. With Alice in Chains' unplugged album being the best of the last. Real songs, about real things, showing real emotions, played by real musicians, that's why it's one of the greatest things ever recorded the way I see it. Then when you add what was going on with the band as a group, and with the members too, it's amazing that it even exists. Don't roast me too much over this. There are exceptions to this rule, but they are rare, and for the most part, only exist in rock/metal.
      Check out Dave Grohl's documentary about the recording studio "Sound City", it's free on RUclips and is a bit of an education on the process and why analog is just better. More difficult, yes, but if you have the ears to hear it, it's just better. Maybe it's because we are analog machines ourselves. Anyway, just my $.02 , check out that documentary if you have the time...

    After fifty years, I am still not sure what I like more, the original (Bryant) song, as recorded by the great Everly Brothers, or this later version by Nazareth. Vocals are more beautiful on the original, but somehow this rock band manages to create the right feeling of pain that the song is about. I am still undecided.

      I'm thinking the same. Nazareth's sound sticks with me longer though. You can feel the pain being put across. I do own the Everly Bros version but not Nazareth's. Go figure...🤔🙄

    My earliest memory was 1979, New Years Eve turning 1980. I was only 4, but I remember this song on the turn table. My Dad gave me popcorn, and told me that this was the only time we could stay up, because it would be a history that we could hold on to. It is crazy, because I remember things looking the same, just different cars, and clothes. I love that at only 4, my parents gave us little moments so that we could hold on to memories. Great job as always guys. You are celebs! Thanks!!!
