Great band and reaction. Brings back memories from my high school days. Dan McCafferty has a distinct unique voice that you know it's him when he sings. Nazareth had many other great tracks...
Nazareth made this song a hit, but it was originally released by the Everly Brothers on their 1960 album A Date With The Everly Brothers. Like their heartbreak hit from 1957, "Bye Bye Love," it was written by Boudleaux Bryant. Young love is hot with passion, but it burns you when it's hot. The guy in this song has just made this discovery, which is a revelation of sorts - all those singing the praises of love are fools who will soon be burned, as love is just a lie made to make you blue. The original Everly Brothers version runs 2:23 and is delivered in their distinctive, pleasing harmonies. The Nazareth version is 3:03, with sandpaper vocals by lead singer Dan McCafferty screamed out as if he's falling into the pit of despair.
I always love both of your reaction's. My first concert was Nazareth the month I turned 17 in September 1982 in Lakeland Florida. Still have the concert T & great memories. Awesome band.

Dan McCafferty himself said that he wasn't the one who wrote these lyrics, but he would really like to have written them because it had everything to do with him and the band and the composer said that he wrote them to be sung exactly in his voice. The lyrics of the song say that everyone will experience love and see that love also hurts, a disappointment in love or the death of the loved one, only the pain of loss for having loved someone will remain.

"Love Hurts" is a song written and composed by the American songwriter Boudleaux Bryant. First recorded by the Everly Brothers in July 1960, the song is most well known in two hit versions by UK artists; by Scottish hard rock band Nazareth in 1974 and by English singer-songwriter Jim Capaldi in 1975.
This song was originally done by Roy Orbison around 1960. It was the flip side of "Running Scared." Also done by Emmy Lou Harris and Gram Parsons around 1970. I played Roy's version at least one a month for 60+ years.

The older I get, i'm more amazed that anybody finds the right one for them, ever. Hang on to what you have, it's worth the effort. All the best.
The song was written by the first professional songwriters in Nashville, a husband and wife duo. They've written so many songs, and founded BMi Records. This song has been covered by almost everyone, including Elvis.

This is considered power ballad because of the electric guitars. A ballad is done on acoustic guitars but sometimes has the electric guitar solo. You may have heard this in Rob Zombie’s Halloween where the mom is like dancing as a stripper this song was playing or the movie Dazed and Confused. Off the top of me head, I cannot recall any other movie with this song in it. This is a classic rock song. The next Nazareth sing to check out is Hair of the Dog. Peace!

They played this song on the radio 1000 times a day forever.
THIS ALBUM IS TOP 10 OF ALL TIME! No exaggeration. Great all the way through! McCafferty's voice is manly, rugged and refined at the same time. Underrated. Overlooked.

Peace!
Another great band from my youth !
Love Hurts...on the 45...side 2 was Hair of the Dog. I was a little girl. Singing this then run around sing "Now you're messin with a S.O.B." 😆
This song is iconic, it's a part of Americana commercials, movies.
Love Hurts" is a song written and composed by the American songwriter Boudleaux Bryant. First recorded by the Everly Brothers in July 1960
