Hi Grant, I sold my Fuji gear after years of use and just use the GX9 and the 15mm f/1.7 for street shooting. One thing no one talks about is how awesome and responsive the touch screen is on the GX9. No other camera have personally used compares. And the colors are so good ❤. Cheers! - Juliette

The GX9 is the camera that pulled me in the M4/3 system, and with the right lenses is a solid choice for someone who wants an incredible and somewhat compact option.

Got my GX9 used from mpb in the uk. They currently have 10 for sale £499 - £539. Another thing I love is the Panasonic Image app. I'm a hobbyist and I don't know whether all cameras have apps to go along side? My work flow when I'm out and about is - Take the pics, send to the phone via Image app, edit on the phone. You can then share the pic within minutes of taking it.

I have a GX80 and so happy with it in 2024 that I sometimes ask myself... Should I get a GX9 just for a small upgrade? But just don't want to spend the money... Maybe I will lol

Tip: If size doesnt matter, get a mint used G9 for 500 bucks. Best current M43 bargain.

I've got a gx9 for an excellent price a few months ago. I agree with all of your points, but there is just one flaw: it is not weatherproof. I hope it survives, but the rainy season here in Thailand males me wonder if I should have gone for the omd Em5 mkIII which goes for around the same price here in the Thailand second market

The lens I like the most with the GX9, weirdly, is the Zuiko 12-40 F:2.8
I always have a leather handgrip on the camera that extends the bottom by 1cm and gives my pinky a rest, and it also beefs the frontal grip slightly. The slightly cooler and rich pictures from the lens tones down the yellow sandy vibe of the Panasonic processing and produces spot on pictures to my eyes.
I have other cameras, including a Pen-F and almost all the Olympus lenses plus 3-4 Panasonic ones, but the 12-40 is glued to the GX9. It gives me range, decent low light and perfect sharpness at 2.8, which was not the case with the 12-35, which I sold. It is not even bulky or front heavy as the GX9 can balance it nicely.
If I keep a hand over the upper plate of the camera I can also shoot in wet days without too much concern

I am now using a pair of Lumix GX9 bodies with the following lenses. Olympus 40-150/2.8 pro (plus MC 1.4) (great tele) Lumix 14/2.5 (small but great for daily use) Panasonic 12-32 kit zoom...Olympus 9mm bodycap fisheye (lots of uses) ...All fit in a fairly small bag...I actually preferred the Lumix 14/2.5 over the bigger Pan leica 15/1.8 (its quite small and pretty much stays on one of the bodies..Plus (Not to rock anybodies boat but ) I have found its pretty hard to tell the difference from the Pan leica 15/1.8 under normal conditions. (plus its quick and oh so small)....I still do not understand why its so expensive and hard to get GX9 bodies in other Countries (about 360 to 400 USD here...and its fairly easy to get (here in Thailand).

I am one of the lucky GX9 owner as well. Must say I am not using it as much as I should. I do love the G9M2 too and while it is bigger it offers more of the features I use a lot. To me the new S9 looks very close like the GX9II should be imo. It will also pair nicely with my Voigtlander M-mount glass. Having no crop with those lenses makes the S9 also tempting. When a worthy successor to GX9 comes, I will sell it. If not I will keep it as long as it works.

There are some for sale most days I look but the trouble is the prices are going up and up, probably driven by videos like this one! MPB have six atm starting at £500 but they were £350 last year, and half the retailers selling usually have at least one or two.

Much of what you said applies to the GX7. No need to buy a grip. IMHO the 16 MP sensor is enough and they are a bargain, I got mine for under 200€. So you don‘t have to worry about something happening the camera.

I bought one two years ago. My only complaint is the rear focus button. So I have it set up that it focuses on the half-press shutter. This also means I can confidently hand it to anyone to take a picture if I’m going to be in it.
Its high ISO performance is also impressive especially when shooting RAW and then using Lighroom’s AI noise reduction.
The lens I mostly use, especially on holiday, is Panasonic 14-140.
To carry it I have two wrist straps on my left wrist. It’s very comfortable for a whole day.
I have used it in a limited way for video. Results have been ok. But, that’s probably due to me not the camera.

Love that camera too. I ordered the Panasonic grip this week while it is still available.
Not that rare in Europe thanks to MPB, but you've got to pray the price. Price is arounf 600€. I bought mine brand new for 600€ 4 years ago :) At my local camera store there was one for sale at 400€ this summer.

I have one and I'm never selling. Took thousands of photos with it. Rocking it in a small waist pack with a mitakon 25mm 0.95 (for night) and a Sigma 56mm 1.2. With this combo I never needed full frame for street photography.

I know what you mean about the D700. I remember using one of those to shoot the interior of the restaurant of the Ned hotel in central London (about as flash as it gets) and was soon doing business with their security staff. In the end they were ok about it, once I convinced them I was just a muppet with a huge camera and not doing a paid job, they let me go for it. There is a lot to be said for a Ricoh GR in situations like that. If its in your pocket most of the time, it tends to attract less attention. Everyone else is using phones of course.

I used the gx9 for a few months after which I sold it again. It is a great camera but in my opinion it has a shortcoming and that is the viewfinder. As an old school photographer I am used to a clear and bright viewfinder. The viewfinder is clearly inferior to that of the G9 for example. The viewfinder of the olympus pen F is clearly better and that is also my choice for street photography in particular. The Leica cameras are unfortunately out of my budget.

Prices seem to vary a lot by location and by seller. MPB in the US has a few bodies ranging from $739 to $864. KEH (US) has some ranging from $944 to $1002. Ebay prices are all over the place.

No doubts about the quality of the GX9, but ironically I'm looking to take a step backwards from my GX80, and I'm considering a GX8. 😅
Also, turns out I like the manual shooting experience, and I agree about the chinese lens manufacturers. I have a small collection of TTArtisan, Brightin Star, Mitakon etc. No complaints.
(Also also, I remember one of my few forays in street photography, some guy got in my grill thinking I was taking photos of his car's number plate. And that was just with a little ol' OM-5.)

What you think, i could buy a OM Systems OM 1 mark1 for Eur 890 shutter count 770.
Would you recommend it at this price?

  • @edwintam2349
    @edwintam2349 Месяц назад +1

Weirdly enough... I have the first - GF1 - and the last - GX9, in addition to my OM-1. I had the GX7 along the way too, but I traded it in for the GX9. I also shoot Nikon, mainly for high end portraits and indoors portraits, and Fuji (long story). For a while there, I thought I would just dump either end and stick with Fuji, but I seem to be either going m4/3 or full frame. The Fuji is nice, but the bigger lenses are almost as big as full frame lenses, so there isn't much advantage. For everything else, I usually use my OM-1 and GX9 combination these days.

Looking for a zoom lens to use on this body for events..
    35 - 100 2.8
    12 - 40 2.8
    12 - 60 4 - 5.6
It's my first camera, im suing it with 25mm 1.4 and the 12 - 32 kit lens. I like it so far. AF is not as good as my peer's a6400. Have to work a little harder focusing, ill get better as time goes by i guess.

In my view, GX9 is too heavy and big size to be a everyday fun camera. It weights 450g, only 50g lighter than Sony A7c. Its footprint is even larger than A7c. I'd pick one from the Oly epl series for everyday carry.
