Liza Minnelli. I’m surprised she wasn’t on the list. She’s well known for her own talent, not just as Judy Garland’s daughter
MRS. MOJO! I DEMAND YOU DO A PLAYLIST FOR ACTORS BILL PAXTON AND HIS SON JAMES PAXTON, RIGHT NOW! HE IS MULTI TALENTED AND SIX FEET TALL, HE HAS A HEART OF GOLD AND DOESN'T GET TALKED BY YOU GUYS AT ALL! @@Princess_Cheese As great a star as :Liza is, I'm not quite sure she has surpassed either of her parents. But truly a legend in her own right.
@@Princess_Cheese
Liza isn't more famous than her mother, Judy
Kids from different generations
will know who her mother is because of The Wizard of Oz.
Same kids will not know who Liza is.
Wizard Oz is a classic like The Wiz with Diana Ross.
You should stop from using the gratuitously offensive term "nepo baby." Nobody who lacks talent or doesn't work hard has a career in showbiz.
Regarding other *dynasties* (that's the best term) you could consider, there are the Coppolas, and the Carradines. You forgot that Drew Barrymore issues from an acting dynasty so important that even has its own Wikipedia article.
Mariska Hargitay 😍 In my opinion, she’s surpassed the fame of both her mom, Jayne Mansfield, and her dad, Mickey Hargitay.
I thought the same
Well, obviously since her mom died when she was a child. Her mom didn't live long enough to see her daughter's success
I agree, Mariska has become a TV icon.
Some of it is generational. Jayne was overshadowed by Marilyn Monroe and never reached icon status before dying young so only people living in the 50's and 60's would be familiar with her whereas Mariska's TV presence since the 90's has kept her in front of the rest of us. I agree that her talent and fame is above her mother's too.
Her mother was really famous back in the day.
It makes a difference when that parent life is cut short like Jayne, Minnie Rippleton and others, because you never know what else their parent could havd did in their life.
Hollywood use to call Mansfield
The poor man's Marylin Monroe, which was so shady, wrong.
Kiefer Sutherland, Charlie Sheen and Emilio Estevez, Maya Rudolph
Wait. Minnie Rippleton had an amazing career before her death. Maya is brilliant but is an actress not a singer. She didn't surpassed her mom. They are equal talent wise in my book.
@@joyyoung3108 That doesn't matter, or did you miss Lennie Kravitz and his mother, Roxie Roker (Helen Willis, The Jeffersons) was part of this list. Sure he's done a bit of acting, but Maya has done a bit of singing, though mostly when she was on SNL.
@@joyyoung3108 Minnie RIPPERTON was a beloved 70s icon. Maya is successful but hasn't surpassed or equaled her mother.
Donald and Kiefer are popular with completely different generations, the former with Boomers, the latter mostly with Gen Z. They maybe overlap with Gen X. Martin Sheen still overshadows his brother and two sons, though Charlie briefly gave him a run for his money before screwing up.
@@MrEab2010 I think she has....I didn't know Maya's mom was famous until a year or two ago? And I'm sure there are people who only know who Maya is and not her mom
what about Michael Douglas or the great Liza Minnelli? she was the first EGOT winner and in the 70s/80s she surpassed her mom (Judy Garland)
Liza Minnelli is an absolute legend but she hasn't surpassed her mother, Judy Garland. If anything she only (arguably) equalled her.
A great feat in itself.
@@RhaegarTargaryen1st but Liza have an Oscar, thing that her mother didnt win back in the 50s/60s and she's more famous than her father the director Vincente Minnelli
It's also about popularity as well, besides accomplishments. I know Liza because of Judy. But Liza is like an entirely different entity from Judy all at once because she's definitely made her name well established as her own thing. I'd say she hasn't surpassed Judy completely but they're on the same level@@Pablorcct
Liza never surpassed her mamas fame
Carrie Fisher became more famous than her mom, Debbie Reynolds (one of my favorite stories about Debbie is that after Star Wars became popular she'd sign autographs as Princess Leia's mom) & her dad, Eddie Fisher. Emma Roberts, daughter of Eric Roberts. Laura Dern, daughter of Diane Ladd & Bruce Dern (I'd say she's mostly surpassed her father).
I have to disagree about Carrie and Debbie……Debbie Reynolds was one of the biggest stars of Hollywood’s golden era and was a leading lady in tons of musicals, she starred on Broadway and in Las Vegas. Carrie was amazing, but ultimately best known for a single character. Just my opinion, don’t come for me!
@@lindaallen9721 All of that is true, but the kids who watched Star Wars didn't know who Debbie was or what she'd starred in.
You would be wrong, they were about the same
Debbie was one of the top actress.
I remember my mom told me about Debbie, Eddie Fisher and Elizabeth Taylor scandal when i was a kid in the 80s
And that happened before I was even born.
People are comparing how famous they are today, rather than how famous they were period.
Carrie only did Star Wars.
Debbie did a ton of stuff on film and on broadway.
@@seofra8252 But Star Wars is more famous than all of that, meaning Carrie became more famous. And earned a lot more.
Here are a few that were not listed: Laura Dern, Maya Rudolph, Timothy Hutton and Mathew Brotherick.
Maya's mother wasn't an actress. She was a singer. This list is for actors.
many of these are popular with different generations, you can't say one is more popular than the other overall.
@@criminalmindsgirl2936Well... Miley Cyrus and her father Billy Ray are both famous singers not actors.
I love Whitney and Cissy singing❤❤
Together❤❤
So dang wonderfully cute! EEP! :)
Missing from this list was actress Elizabeth Montgomery from Bewitched. She was the daughter of actors Robert Montgomery and Elizabeth Bryan Allen.
Janet Leigh and Tony Curtis were superstars
Some of these seem “more famous“ because they’ve been seen and spoken about more recently. I dare say, Lionel Barrymore was, in his era, equally as famous as Drew Barrymore. Similar for Lloyd and Jeff Bridges, and Jaime Lee Curtis and her parents. The Internet may make the children of celebrities seem like they’re more famous, but if you go by history, these acting families run about par.
~ True, it's all about the era. I watch tons of old black n whites and there's countless movies with Lional B. and also Ethel B.
Um... oopsies at 7:34 "Her father was Tony Curtis" (proceeds to show his 'Some Like It Hot' co-star Jack Lemmon).
Same when circling Cissy Houston. Circled the wrong person when they said about her singing career.
Carrie Fisher.
Hmm. I'd say they're equal like Liza Minelli and Judy Garland.l
Hmmmm pretty much a tie there.
@@TennesseeMelanie Unless you're considering her father.
If there's not a tie between Tony and Jamie Lee Curtis, I don't understand the tie in these cases too
different generations, Carrie with the Boomers and GenXers (maybe even Gen Z and millennials), Debbie with the Greatest Generation.
I never got the hype with Gwyneth Paltrow
Same..
I find her highly annoying.
Same
I mean, she did pass her mother’s fame in the most basic sense. Certainly not more likable or talented, but more famous.
I love Gwyneth Paltrow and she never got the hype either and she is a very good actress and she is very likeable to me too.
Sure Drew Barrymore is more famous than her dad. But her Grandfather or Great Grandfather? Way before my time so I can’t say. I love Drew so no disrespect.
Some problem that I have with these lists is that they are very US-centric and agecentric.
no disrespect to Drew but her grandfather John Barrymore Sr. and her grand uncle and aunt, Lionel and Ethel, are among the greatest stage and movie actors in history.
Ron Howard. Both his parents were actors (Rance Howard and Jeanne Speegle Howard). Little Ronnie got his first job because his dad was in a film and they needed a small child for a couple scenes so he brought Ron with him to the set. By the age of 5 more people already knew Ronnie better than Rance.
Francis Ford Coppola, Laura Dern, Ben Stiller, Skarsgård brothers, Jane Fonda, Peter Fonda, Nicolas Cage, Chiara Mastroianni Deneuve, Robert De Niro, Isabella Rossellini, Jean Renoir, Joaquin Phoenix, Juliette Lewis, keira Knightley, Sean Penn, Chris Pine, Angelica Huston, Danny Huston, Cole Hauser, Elisabeth Montgomery, Timothy Hutton, Michael Riva (Grandson of Marlene Dietrich), Max Irons, Vanessa Redgrave and their daughters, The Carradine Brothers, The Carradine grandaughters (Eve, Martha Plimpton), The Arquette family. They are great artists, although not all of them have surpassed their relatives. Let' no forget that cinema was born from the hand of entire families that came from theater, circus and vaudeville: Barrymore, Power , Chaplin... I don't understand why there is so much fuss these days about this topic. At least in arts, the public and time decide who is talented and who receives favors from their relatives and friends.
It is because social media influencers decided that the reason they are not famous is because family members of famous people get priority, not because they are not offering anything special to the masses. They started this big anti nepo baby campaign. Family connections can get you in the door but talent (if you have any) will give you a career. There are a few cases where someone got a big career only because of family (Tori Spelling anyone?) but most will fade away.
@@hectorsmommy1717but Tori was perfect for her role on Beverly Hills, 90210
Whitney was a Nepo baby?
whitney houston's mother Cissy" Houston (who is still alive Born 1933) was a American soul and gospel singer. After a successful career singing backup for such artists as Roy Hamilton, Dionne Warwick, Elvis Presley, Aretha Franklin, and Chaka Khan, Houston embarked on a solo career, winning two Grammy Awards for her work.
she also the aunt to Dionne Warwick which make her and Whitney cousins
I disagree that Jamie Lee Curtis is more famous than her father Tony. I remember him from the 50s and early 60s. His success was phenomenal for his day. The entertainment news media was more low key back then.
You left out Michael Douglas, son of Kirk Douglas. I concede their levels of fame are roughly equal. The same with Jane Fonda and her father Henry.
Brian Keith way surpassed the success of his father, the fine character actor Robert Keith.
Jamie Lee Curtis won an Oscar, and her father didn't. Too some that makes her "better" than him.
I can give you Jamie Lee Curtis not surpassing Tony. He was famous for being a talented actor in a large verity of different movies. Jamie has done a lot of horror movies but she’s also done a lot of other types of films. Action, Comedy, Drama and Suspense. Freaky Friday, True Lies, You Again, A Fish Called, My Girl, Knives Out, and many many more. But Janet Leah didn’t do much more than some horror movies. And I can only honestly think of only Psycho when I think of Janet. I honestly can’t think of any other movies she was in. If anything she was definitely type casted as the beautiful girl who gets killed off in slasher movies.
I agree that Tony Curtis was much more famous in his time. I know some people will equate awards with pure fame. I think they two are separate things because there are plenty of Oscar winners who quickly fade from the public consciousness.
And people who weren't around in the '50s and '60s don't remember Tony from that time. Or even the '70s when he co-starred with Roger Moore.
@aaronleverton4221 I'll just file this under "duh." If this is a list of who is currently more famous than their long-dead relatives, it's pretty pointless.
My favorite rdj role he ever did is still the younger brother in home for the holidays. Filmed in Baltimore btw.
Mariska Hargitay, Liza Minnelli, Laura Dern, Freddie Prinze, Jr
Alan Alda is another. Who remembers Robert Alda besides a couple appearances as a guest star on MASH alongside his son. Robert was semi-big in 1940's-50's movies.
Happy friday afternoon, Jen. Take care and God bless you. Greetings from Colombia to you as well.
I would say Llyod and Jeff were at least equally famous
Depends on the age of the people you are asking. People who went to the movies in the 50's-80's would definitely remember Lloyd more whereas younger people would know Jeff more. I am of the generation that grew up ON Lloyd (loved Seahunt as a kid) but grew up WITH Jeff and his brother Beau.
The Fondas? The Keaches
Scott Eastwood (not there yet but he’s on his way), Mariska Hartatay, Jason Ritter, Maya Rudolph, Candice Bergen, Harry Conike Jr, Colin Hanks (not as famous but getting there), Kate Hudson, Jane Fonda, Ben Stiller. There is a whole other list of celebrities who are more famous than their famous parents.
The tale of Whitney Houston is a tragic one and a cautionary tale.
indeed.
what about Michael Douglas?
He still does not surpass kirk "i am spartacus" Douglas
@@mattep74 when you won 2 Academy Awards (winning your 1st for producing One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and one for acting in which he say "Greed, for lack of a better word, is good." is on a list of 100 best movie quotes!
close call, but I'd have to give the edge to Kirk.
Roxie Roker and TV weatherman/personality Al Roker are cousins. Whitney Houston and Dionne Warwick, one of my favorite singers, are also cousins.
Living up to their legacy
That Whitney Houston clip where she’s singing with her mother gave me chills
Kravitz was in JLo's 2022 "Shotgun Wedding" with a hilarious death scene reminiscent of what one might see playing GTAV. 😂 2012 Hunger Games was the best you could do? SMH
I agree Lenny Kravitz is quite famous, but I still think of him as Roxie Roker's son.
I knew this guy. He had even made a surprise performance at Wembley Stadium (the Champions League Final opening ceremony show).
Thank you.
You're slicing hairs with Jeff and Lloyd Bridges.
Tony Curtis was a movie star for years when movie stars were big. He always worked; Jamie mostly played in the horror genre, less roles as the years went on.
How about Dwayne Johnson? I’m sure he’s at least a little bit more popular than his dad
he comes from a legendary family of sumo wrestlers, one of whom famously fought with Connery's Bond in You Only Live Twice.
That's the reason why the term "nepo baby" is so unfair. Nobody, no matter their parents' fame, gets a career in showbiz without talent and hard work. An easier entry, sure, but not a career.
The term that was used, and should be used about these famous children of famous parents is "dynasty."
For the next one, I submit Freddie Prinze, Jr. :3
Freddie Sr. was wildly popular in the 70s while his son's career has faded.
@@MrEab2010Freddie Sr's career never had the chance to fade, but yes, he was super popular. I would estimate they are on par with each other.
@@mariehernandez5878 not even close.
@@MrEab2010 I certainly would defer to someone else's perspective as I am less into modern entertainment. However, I have really come to enjoy Junior's work (what I have seen) and I have had more of it to choose from than Senior's, who I loved from Chico and the Man.
@@mariehernandez5878 that's the point, go with what YOU like, not necessarily with what is popular.
Daniel Day-Lewis. Mother was a British actress and father was a famous poet.
I would argue that Jamie Lee Curtis has not surpassed her parent's celebrity. Don't get me wrong, I love her! And while she is certainly famous to this current generation, her parents were at the top of the heap in the Golden Era of Hollywood. Tony Curtis was like George Clooney and Tom Cruise combined. His marriage to/divorce from Janet Leigh was crazy popular like Brangelina.
You said Whitney WAS poplar, no she is STILL poplar like Prince, Michael Jackson who also passed.
Kids singing Whitney song and dancing like MJ today.
I’d personally have to put Carrie Fisher on this list. While both her parents were huge stars, it doesn’t get much bigger then Princess Leia.
Mariska Hargitay for sure!!
Some of these celebrities seem EQUALLY famous rather than more famous than their parents.
Some of these are probably about perspective. As an eighties/nineties kid, I don't think I could come up with a list like this and have it be accurate.
Angelica Huston
It seems yall are comparing how famous someone is today compared how famous a child / parent was period.
Some are the same as their parents like the Lloyd Bridges, Tony Curtis and etc.
Chris Pine is more famous than his father Robert Pine (I remember watching him on CHiPs).
Michael Douglas... Kirk Douglas (father)
Well yeah! Back then there isn't that fan culture like nowadays so what so shocking that kids are more popular?!?!?!?!?
Miley Cyrus and Hailey bieber
Carrie Fisher & Liza Minelli are a couple I could think of
Sadly, Gwyneth is more famous when her mother is far superior in acting.
Selena Qintanilla; her dad was in the music business in the 50s and 60s. Even though shes gone, she's STILL more famous then her brother and sister.
She truly is a legend! EEP! :)
Jane Fonda... Henry Fonda (father)
John Ritter
When did any of his children surpassed his fame?
@@criminalmindsgirl2936 John Ritter's father was Tex Ritter, who was a pioneer of American Country music and a popular singer and actor from the mid-1930s into the 1960s.
@@criminalmindsgirl2936Jason Ritter is Dipper Pines
@TMC1982Part2 , I was thinking of John's children. Not his father. I forgot about him be honest

How did yall miss liza damn mojo
Laura Dern?
the title of this needs an apostrophe. Does Mojo not require proofreading before publishing these videos?
This "Nepo Baby" stuff is a crock. Nobody in entertainment gets a CAREER because of their family. It may open a door, but it won't attract the public for long. Individuals go into the same profession as their parents all the time. Emilio Estevez and Charlie Sheen have another brother and a sister who act...But you've never heard of them. Why? Scott Eastwood has a career, I guess, but ois he anywhere close to stardom?
The idea that Jane Fonda, Jamie Leigh Curtis, or, to be totally absurd, the three Barrymore siblings decades ago (their parents were Broadway stars in the Nineteenth Century, after all) have something to apologize for is laughable and offensive. If they had no talent, they would have disappeared....Like Drew Barrymore's dad did.
Matthew thakchuk
Bret hitman Hart
Dakota Johnson?
Good example.
she's a terrible actress
She hasn't surpassed her parents fame. Let alone, her grandmother, Tippi Hedren. Or her ex stepfather, Antonio Banderas.
Nah..she hasn't surpassed her parents
Nope. I would consider her family to be more famous.
😊
🎬🍿🎥🎞🧙🏻♂
🤔 Agree with everyone on this list except #4, *Jamie Lee Curtis* because her parents were HUGE in their time as well, especially her Dad, TONY CURTIS.
I wanna see the opposite. The list of kids with no talent whatsoever. Like the acting, singing dancing gene just skipped them
you mean like Jason Connery, James Mitchum and Frank Jr. and Nancy Sinatra? Yes, that would be a fun list.
Where’s Timothee Chalament?
Angelina and John Voight are equally famous
No, they are not.
unfortunately, Voight is now more infamous for being a Trump MAGA nutjob and an embarrassment to the family.
I think that Angelina's fame has far surpassed him.
Ben Stiller
I still favor his parents, the comedy duo Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara.
@@MrEab2010I am from the Stiller & Meara era too.
About half of these, they didn't exceed their parent's fame. They may have got close to it, but not exceeding it.
Whitney had an amazing PR team.. in her heyday, I just thought she was the most sophisticated, elegant lady.. when I got older the true colors came out..
for true class, look up Nat King Cole and his daughter Natalie Cole.
Jennifer Aniston is a great actress but Friends has overshadowed her career. And Miley Cyrus should consider herself lucky with Hannah Montana and her song "Flowers". Because her Bangerz era almost destroyed her career.
she lasting legacy is the twerk.
Miley Cyrus is my favorite 🎉
Scott Eastwood
He hasn't surpassed his father fame
why?
No Kim Kardashian? What about Kate Hudson? Robin Thicke? Ben Stiller?
I think those are all equal in celebrity with their parents
Kim Kardashian? LMAO!!! Her father was a lawyer not an actor! She's not an "actress". Hollywood just keeps trying to push her on us. She never had any critical acclaimed work 🤣🤣🤣
@@criminalmindsgirl2936 No one ever said she was an actress but if you think about she did surpass her dad's fame. No one knew who the Kardashians really were until Kim. Only few knew who they were. So she did surpass her dad's fame. Her dad was an attorney but she turned herself into a businesswoman and a socialite. Stop treating Kim Kardashian as if she is some airhead bimbo. She's not. Angelina Jolie - she is beautiful. But a manipulative mother who guided her children towards the continuation of hating instead of healing. Not a good role model. PS.: Jolie pushes HER children now into all kinds of NEPO shows, films, productions.
While they may have had that added advantage of their famous parents to get their break what they did after that was on their own merit & talent so calling them nepo babies can only go so far they proved themselves others who want to get their break shouldn’t dwell on that or complain about that & should do everything in their power to get their big break & prove themselves with their talents Johnny Depp did it all on his own merit, talent & by an unexpected accident by a friend Nicholas Cage getting him his break in nightmare on elm street so he can pay his bills & he became one of the most successful actors, performers today!!! I’m sure there are many more who can say the same!! & he enjoyed the work & continued making many movies some blockbusters & some not so much & he does have many talents under his belt like being a great musician & artist!!! So again someone who got a foot into the industry but proved himself by himself!!! Others who want to get their break should admire these people & not tear them down we always will be defined by our parents but that doesn’t mean we can’t be our own people!!!!
Facts! Everybody on this list made their own luck through talent alone
