@@bastard9982 You're talking about whole movies in general, not particular shots. There's only one other director that comes close to capturing loneliness like Mann, that is Winding Refn.
Mann’s breathtakingly stylistic neon cinematography and depiction of principled and stoic consummate professionals is something that will never be forgotten in Cinematic history. It’s been years I’ve been waiting for this video to drop.

Magnificent choice for the final shot. Insider isn't the most obvious choice when a filmo has Heat, Mohicans and Manhunter but Insider is probably his most accomplished work.
Because it's really a vibe and not Miami vice. They are working for another department in the movie and because of hurricane most of movie is shot in Caribbean. Just name it something else. And change Jaime and Colin and it's a great flick
@@brazen501 They should have just made them DEA agents or CIA even (like in Sicario) - the stuff they’re doing in that movie is way above the pay grade / skill level of even the most elite special units of Miami Dade cops
The choice of scenes with the music... dude, you're just so talented. Always looking forward to see your vids. Sometimes, when I'm at my job and maybe I have some free hours, I like to go through your channel and see some vids, sometimes I even see the same vids over and over. This is how magic your videos are. Thank you so much for all your work!
Michael Mann mastered cinematography. His films are precise, beautiful and visually masterful. The actors and the settings are one and not separate. Ergo, poetry in motion. The most underrated director of our time.
3:28 That powerboat scene and the run-up to it from Miami Vice is one of my favourite pieces of cinema ever. The romance of it and the action of it. I can even forgive him for using Moby as the music because it’s that good.
This is one of the best videos I’ve ever seen on RUclips and the choice of music is just right. I’m not afraid to admit that I had tears in my eyes such is the beauty of the shots and the music.
I love how Mann (and his DOP) can make the most mundane situation both familiar and visually interesting. I have been a big fan since Heat. The slightly over exposed shot driving through the tunnel always gives me goosebumps.
My fav director off all time.. Collateral was so influential on me growing up, not only it opened my eyes to what movies can be as in both visually and storytelling, but also it was the first time when i started to notice on filmmaking techniques more seriously.
Michael Mann has been my favorite Director for decades. I find he is something akin to Van Gogh, who believed that colors were more vivid at night. His cinematography is unmatched IMO and he loves to develop characters. Absolutely delicious scenes arranged by him. Can't wait to see Heat 2. Thank you, Michael Mann for so many lovely films!!!
What a beautiful video, man. Thank you so much. I don't know why but everytime i hear this Moby tune i immediately remember 'Heat' final scene and goosebumps start running all over my body
These images define motion pictures in that most of the shots would be breathtaking still photographs, and in motion intensifies the emotions. I particularly enjoy his night photography, sunsets, and water. That song was a wonderful choice for your montage.
50 year old photographer here, he was one of my earliest appreciated and most influential artists. Visual storytelling with the dimension of music, all done with classic yet innovative aesthetic. More please.
Beautiful ❤ Mann captures the human condition, contemplation, calm before the storm, the storm, aloneness, connection, cities by the sea so well - legend..
Kudos to Dante Spinotti, the legendary cinematographer behind many of his films Edit : I noticed you put their names in the description, great way to honor a less - appreciated job that’s a huge part of a directors vision.
Moby, the OG icon for all us old school ravers, went above and beyond when he created this musical masterpiece, the perfect accompaniment for this fantastic montage of some of the most memorable and visually stunning cinematography committed to film. There is something truly unique in the way Mann sees the world and then shows us what he sees. This was a great video, really ❤
Magnificent video with the film director, Rhapsody in blue: Very few directors have portrayed the nocturnal atmosphere of modern cities like Mann, which means that many of his most iconic images tend to have bluish tones and a certain metallic texture that, of course, rhymes with the psychological processes of his characters. Moby's music, thanks to the movie Heat I started following him.
I'm not necessarily a big fan of this director but I can't help to watch the ending chase scene of the Last of the Mohicans when I stumble upon it, it's one of my favorite cinema moment ever, truly haunting.
One of the all time great directors. Criminally overlooked by the academy, Mann directed not one but three movies in the 90s that could all be considered a masterpiece.

U should do a video on the beauty of Naked, a film by mike leigh. One of my favourites, the shots in it are really nice
Heat was his masterpiece.
This video was long, long, long overdue. One of the best directors of all time. Nobody captures loneliness better than Michael Mann.
❤
Wong Kar Wai does, but in a way dreamier and stylistic fashion.
Hey I do agree but what about Martin Scorsese and taxi driver ?? And maybe eyes wide shut and Stanley Kubrick ??

Most stylish director. 'God moving over the faces water' just made it 💙💙💙💙
moby and hans zimmer share the crown with music production for movies. this song from heat is one reason why
Saw the length of the clip and knew exactly what the music would be.
Easily one of my favorite filmmakers No one depicts cities at night like Michael Mann.
Nobody shoots LA and captures urban isolation better than Mann. Those blues are amazing.
Love his use of moonlight.
I just replied and said more or less same thing. Then saw your comment. Should have just scrolled down then hit like on that.
Manhunter is one of the most underrated movies of all time
Ridiculously good 80s film. Soundtracks amazing on their own
Absolutely. Same with Thief. I feel like most people think that the only movies this man made were Heat and Last Of The Mohicans
West Germany
When red dragon came out I tried telling everyone about it but the shrugged me off
who under-rated it?
Michael mann night shots are simply great ❤
One my favourite filmmakers and my favourite film ever (heat).

"He loved the surface of the earth and the process of life"--an Orwell line that perfectly describes Mann (Kurosawa too).
I love Michael Mann and his films. I'll never understand the hate for his Miami Vice film. I really love it a lot.

Miami Vice is an underrated Michael Mann movie
@yakkattack Me too. The music in it is great too even of it wasn't Jan Hammer.
Miami Vice is a masterpiece...if it was a one-off and not based on a TV show it'd have been judged differently which is silly.

No one can capture the weakness and strength of loneliness, both at the same time, like Mann does. He tells things with images words cant formulate.
Michael Mann mastered cinematography. His films are precise, beautiful and visually masterful. The actors and the settings are one and not separate. Ergo, poetry in motion. The most underrated director of our time.
Michael Mann is one of my top favorite Directors. His work is a perfect blend of drama, plot, writing, style and grit.

You gotta do one for just the Miami vice tv show alone. There’s so many great shots and imagery in it
Mann does know how to take an iconic shot. If you see his staging and shot selection.
3:28 That powerboat scene and the run-up to it from Miami Vice is one of my favourite pieces of cinema ever. The romance of it and the action of it. I can even forgive him for using Moby as the music because it’s that good.
The moby/Patti Labelle accompaniment perfected that scene.

Mann is obviously a genius, but much respect has to go to the guy who made this. Beautiful, well done, sir 👏 ❤
I dont know why, but the shot of the lens moving across Depp’s shoulders as hes “looking over his shoulders” is something that’s always stuck with me.
Great compilation. He has such an amazing style.
Great director! One of my favorites. Nice edit as always :)

My appreciation for Michael Mann started with Thief. He has influenced my sense of aesthetic all my life for which I am grateful.

Michael Mann's films are crafted for the rebellious, unconventional man who possesses a keen sense of style and aesthetics.

Also amazing video
Michael Mann hat ein Gespür für wichtige Sachen in deinem Leben. Und, er hält es einfach fest. Hat er schon immer getan.
