    Great review! Spot on with my experiences winging back to back with 1099. I knew pumping 1201 would be easier, but feels like only ~60% as much energy needed compared to 1099. 1201 nearly as fast too. Had a 46 minute session on 1201, average speed 13.0 mph in 10‐14 kts!

    Great review Dominic. After just one session on the 1201, I completely agree with your conclusions. From aerodynamics, the planform used means that the centre of effort (lift) point does not shift fore and aft with angle of attack (speed) changes. To me (Advance Crazy short fues.) at only 75kg, the turning felt faster than the 1099 - but it also felt very consistant through the turns even if changing speed.

    Thanks for the great review, Dominic! Took the 1201 out winging on a 8.0 Axis downwind board in 7-10kts the other day and it was magic. While it's not as maneuverable as the 1050 it's definitely faster. I don't know if I'll ever need a PNG-wing in light wind ever again.

    Great video, you covered all the bases. Just curious, Ive been foil driving (Gen 1) with my SUP and wanted to transition to a prone board, what board model and size are you using in this video?

  • @apricotscrub

    Are you on the hm axis mast with foil drive instead of cedrus mast due to hm being better for pumping? I noticed your motor popped into the water a few times in your downwind clip, why don't you put the motor closer to your board to prevent this? Already got the 1201 and its amazing ..

    • @dominichoskyns9091
      @dominichoskyns9091  Год назад

      The HM mast is best because it’s stiffer, but tbh I don’t think it’s as critical with the 1201 as it is with bigger foils such as the 1310.
      Having the motor pod dipping in and out of the water isn’t as bad as you might think. Having the motor lower on the mast makes it easier to efoil

    Nice review, uff still loving my 1050 and only now playing with stabs, but this looks good. What do you know about the new Spitfire range from Axis. Also what Stab were you using with the 1201?
    Keep the vids coming and good luck with the new job!

    Are you out of Oman now? Where are you living now? I'd like to see more of the 1201 down winding. Aloha, Don

    I find the 1050 to be good in 2’ to 4’ chop as it’s very stable and doesn’t get pushed around. Would the 1201 do well in those conditions? Or is more for 1’ and less chop and downwind wind swell?

    • @dominichoskyns9091
      @dominichoskyns9091  Год назад +2

      I think only in the most choppy conditions the 1050 would be pushed around less, but regardless of that, I don’t think I’ll be using the 1050 over the 1201 now I’ve gotten used to the extra speed and glide

    I’m an intermediate winger in the Columbia gorge. Is this the wing for me to explore surfing the bumps and trying out wing downwinders? Or is the 1401 the it foil?

    • @dominichoskyns9091
      @dominichoskyns9091  6 месяцев назад

      The swell in the gorge is usually really good so I would say you don’t need such big foils. As an intermediate you’d probably find the spitfires better than the art pro’s as they are much more user friendly. Maybe the 1100 for small days and the 960 for bigger days but without knowing your weight it’s very hard to say what sizes you’d need

      The HM is best but it’s totally useable with the 19mm aluminium mast. I always use an 82cm mast but the best mast length is very personal

    Love the review Dominic, thanks. Thoughts on carving/turning vs the 1099? I’m currently using the 1099 for sup foiling, whilst it’s great, it doesn’t handle being pushed hard into the turns in my experience. Thanks.

    • @dominichoskyns9091
      @dominichoskyns9091  Год назад +2

      Yeah I know what you mean about the 1099, it can wobble if you try to crank it too hard. The 1201 is a bit nicer in that it's smoother and more predictable in turns. It has a different feel to the original ART's which are more lifty. I prefer the ART pro's - the 1201 is amazing for such a big foil, and the small sizes are going to be SICK!!!!!!!!

      I've tried 1201 back to back with the 1099. 1099 seems to flex more, causing more pitch instability. Agree 1201 is more predictable

    Great video!
    I still have the ART 1099 & PNG 1150. I plan to upgrade to the PNG 1310 soon and sell my 1150.
    Eventually I will get a smaller front wing but so far the 1099 is working well as my smallest. My concern is there may be too big of a gap between my 1099 and a future 1310. Do you think this gap will be fine?
    Is the gap between the ART Pro 1201 and PNG 1310 more comfortable?
    Anything that the 1099 does notably better vs the 1201?
    Right now I am foot pump foiling / wing foiling and I am 75 kg.
    Thanks!

    • @dominichoskyns9091
      @dominichoskyns9091  Год назад +1

      The gap between the 1099 & 1310 is big. I think the 1201 fits really well between the 999 and the 1310. The 1099 can handle slightly bigger waves than the 1201 and is slightly faster and a bit more agile, but i think it’s still very close to the 1201 and for me the 999 would be the size smaller than the 1201. Maybe wait to see what sizes will be in the art pro range?!?

      I was wondering if there is no wind foot pump foiling how the ART PRO 1201 compairs to the 1150 & 1310? Same board and mast for the three setups but any fuselage / rear wing for best match.
      Ideas on how these would three compair for pump duration and pump distance for one run?
      Happy Flying!

      @@jonathanreinke9392 the 1150 & 1310 are much slower when pumping on flat water so need less energy to pump. However I can pump the 1201 further in a shorter time. I broke my pumping distance record on the 1201 but not my pump duration record

    • @dominichoskyns9091
      @dominichoskyns9091  Год назад +3

      @@jonathanreinke9392 1310 and 1150 are very slow but because of this they need less energy to pump so good for duration pumping. With the right technique the 1310 beats the 1150 for duration, but the 1150 is more agile so Is better for wake thieving.
      With the 1201 I can pump much more distance in a shorter time. I don’t really have any interest in pumping long distances any more, i only want to pump to link and ride waves, so the 1201 of my choice for this

      I just got the 1201, normally I ride a 1099. I ride the HM mast and I feel that I wouldn’t want to go any wider than 1201, there’s noticeably more flex in the mast on the 1201 than the 1099 due to the width.

    What is your preference for the Axis ART Pro 1201 for downwind and small wave surfing: the advance crazyshort or sillyshort fuselage?

    • @dominichoskyns9091

      For downwinding I usually use the advance ultrashort but sometimes use the advance crazyshort. For surfing I mostly use the advance crazyshort but senators use the advance sillyshort.

      @@stkl23 ok thanks. using png 1150 mostly now. Considering getting something with more glide/rest time to try to increase my pump times. Considering the sabfoil 1350 due to great reviews i've read. Would be much simpler for my quiver to stay with Axis though. 1300 and 1310 both seem to have advantages and disadvantages for docks and ladder starts. I mostly use spots where I can't take any steps. I also use takuma kujira gear for wing and prone. Don't think they have anything that would be in the same league as the big Axis and Sabfoil wings for flat water.
