So it's not really apathy, many people genuinely don't love it and that's fine. I agree with most of your predictions. I'm still nervous for Portugal because of the blockvoting but Iolanda and her team have done such a great job, I'm truly proud of them. I think Finland might be a lot less successful than people think, for me is a huge turn off and there are a lot of conservative countries voting in this semi. I think Slovenia might go through, Raiven is a very special vocalist and the song has a character of its own, even if it's subtle. I like Azerbeijan, I though they had a solid rehearsal with really good vocals, they might go in if somebody flops.
Yeah, I'm not so sure that Windows95man will just sail through to the final. I think it's 50/50 if they'll make it. And if they do make it, it won't be nothing close to a landslide.
@@wardje5195 by blockvoting I mean countries voting on their neighbours and diasporas voting in their origin country. It's not necessarily a bad thing per se, it can just reflect historical and cultural preferences, but when it's too imbalanced it can be a problem. In this semi we have 7 eastern european countries, which 3 of them are Croatia, Slovenia and Serbia (historically they are a strong mutual voting block), and eastern european diasporas in the nordic countries are also very active. On the other hand, the nordic/english speaking block is also very strong on its own ( UK, Ireland, Australia, Germany, Finland, Sweden and Iceland). Portugal is very alone here, as well Azerbeijan, Cyprus and Luxembourg. If we had a France or Spain instead of Sweden or Germany, it would be a bit easier for Portugal to get to the Final as historically these countries tend to appreciate better the portuguese entries. Portugal has a huge diaspora in Luxembourg but it might not be enough. I think if there is any justice, Grito is going to the final because it's one of the better entries in this semi, regardless of who is voting in whom. But it's going to be a tough fight. In this circumstances, I do see for example a possibility (even if small) of Moldova going through and Portugal NQ. Juris in the semis would help to balance out these things. (I'm still grieving Latvia 2023.😢)

Yes Portugal stands somewhat isolated but I believe the purity of the song and the clean black and white theme will make it stand out and be more easily 'digestable' than some of the more fun entries. Maybe that's just my personal taste but I feel Portugal deserves a spot in the final.
As I can't vote for my own country (Luxembourg), I'll split my votes among my other three favourites Portugal, Serbia and Azerbaijan, which coincidentally are all three in my Top4 overall this year.
I think the Portuguese song is easier to digest than the Slovene one. I think we're getting more the Portuguese way to express themselves and the Slovene song it's like the "EAEA" of this year, too arty for a regular person looking for having fun, and not to be looking for the meaning of this "Veronika". Slovenia struggles also with Televote, they made it last year because the song was a good feeling song, and they sold that feeling live, but with Raiven I don't feel that. Serbia has a lot of diaspora in the countries voting tomorrow night, so it'd be a gagging moment if she don't make it. Poland has a great televoting strength, so I don't think, they're missing the Grand Final either. My Prediction: Croatia - Ukraine - Ireland - Lithuania - Portugal - Serbia - Finland - Luxembourg - Poland - I agree the 10th place will be between Cyrus and Australia.
One more night and it's finally here ! I would also be heartbroken if Portugal didn't qualify, but the same with Slovenia ! I think what people, might underestimate, especially in the semi finals where only the public vote counts, is the "diaspora" vote, i.e. people from countries voting for their country with foreign phone numbers. This obviously massively favours Ukraine, who has probably the biggest diaspora right now in other European countries, but also Moldova, Poland or the "Balkan" countries. As we've seen in the last years, they usually qualify and don't usually place at the last few places in the final, whereas countries such as Denmark, Iceland, Portugal (although maybe they'll get points from Luxembourg) and in the finals of course also the UK, Germany and Spain have comparatively little diasporas abroad which does seem to have an impact on qualifiers and the final results
I dont know.... I might be biased since I am Croatian, but I think our neighbors from Slovenia have a very impressive song this year - so I am pretty sure they will qualify.

I mostly agree... Except I don't see Poland in qualifiers. Instead I would love to see Slovenia there, but not sure. If Slovenia will make it (and the rest will be as you predicted, except Poland) it would be almost ideal SF for me.
As I don't want to know something about odds or rehearsals at the moment, I just skipped to the end to see the result. If this happens 4/5 that are in my overall Top 10 would qualify ;) Just Azerbaijan wouldn't make it and I kind of understand it even without knowing much about the rehearsals. And even if it is not in my Top10, Veronika not qualifying would be very sad as it is one of the most thought-out songs this season.
What's kinda funny about Azerbaijan is they almost sent Aisel from 2018 and idk if that song would've qualified either (it's called Game of Chess). So in an alternate universe we could've had 3 returning artists not qualify. I think Ireland is gonna probably have a similar outcome as Hatari in 2019. (Edgy/out there song that gets high in the televote but doesn't do too hot with juries).

I feel like Kypros, Serbia and Poland are the "borderline" qualifiers and atleast one of them will not qualify (because all 7 first songs qualifying would be mindblowing), but rest of the qualifiers feel pretty safe. And either Australia, Azerbaizan or Slovenia will qualify.

I think the fact that Cyprus has been repeating the same things and having help from abroad makes fans underestimate it. Since 2015 the same mistake is made. Don't get me wrong, this song will not and does not deserve to do great. But the performance seems much more professional than 9-10 of these songs, even if it does lack that special oomph.

My prediction: agree with you on 8/10; Ireland out - Slovenia in: what kills Ireland for me is that it is before France, and I really really see the average viewers be like: "Look, this is how a good song with amazing vocals sounds like, not like the goth Irish entry". It will stand out but in a negative way, which is arguably worse. Slovenia has a similar vibe with Ireland but it is later in the running order, might take some votes off Bambie as well. Serbia out - Cyprus in: you said it, Serbia is second, vocals not necessarily point, very slow song right at the beginning sandwiched between an energetic dancer and an up-tempo Luktelk. Their only lifeline is the support they have in the semi, but I am pretty confident it won't be enough. One last thought: what do you personally think about the people boycotting because of Israel's participation, in terms of how will this be reflected in the televoting? That demographic, the young activist adults/teenagers, are also the ones who are the most likely to vote for entries such as Ireland. But i want to see what you think about it. Someone just leaked the semi final one 'jury show' performance for Baby Lasagna and I couldnt help but watch it, sorry! But all I have to say is that I am left crying a bit afterwards. I made some notes on what to expect:

-Perfected smoke and pyro effects
-Perfected lighting
-Improved backing dancing
-Lots of new little gestures, like the cat hand thing the group do

So it's not really apathy, many people genuinely don't love it and that's fine. I agree with most of your predictions. I'm still nervous for Portugal because of the blockvoting but Iolanda and her team have done such a great job, I'm truly proud of them. I think Finland might be a lot less successful than people think, for me is a huge turn off and there are a lot of conservative countries voting in this semi. I think Slovenia might go through, Raiven is a very special vocalist and the song has a character of its own, even if it's subtle. I like Azerbeijan, I though they had a solid rehearsal with really good vocals, they might go in if somebody flops.

@@wardje5195 by blockvoting I mean countries voting on their neighbours and diasporas voting in their origin country. It's not necessarily a bad thing per se, it can just reflect historical and cultural preferences, but when it's too imbalanced it can be a problem. In this semi we have 7 eastern european countries, which 3 of them are Croatia, Slovenia and Serbia (historically they are a strong mutual voting block), and eastern european diasporas in the nordic countries are also very active. On the other hand, the nordic/english speaking block is also very strong on its own ( UK, Ireland, Australia, Germany, Finland, Sweden and Iceland). Portugal is very alone here, as well Azerbeijan, Cyprus and Luxembourg. If we had a France or Spain instead of Sweden or Germany, it would be a bit easier for Portugal to get to the Final as historically these countries tend to appreciate better the portuguese entries. Portugal has a huge diaspora in Luxembourg but it might not be enough. I think if there is any justice, Grito is going to the final because it's one of the better entries in this semi, regardless of who is voting in whom. But it's going to be a tough fight. In this circumstances, I do see for example a possibility (even if small) of Moldova going through and Portugal NQ. Juris in the semis would help to balance out these things. (I'm still grieving Latvia 2023.😢)

Yes Portugal stands somewhat isolated but I believe the purity of the song and the clean black and white theme will make it stand out and be more easily 'digestable' than some of the more fun entries. Maybe that's just my personal taste but I feel Portugal deserves a spot in the final.

As I can't vote for my own country (Luxembourg), I'll split my votes among my other three favourites Portugal, Serbia and Azerbaijan, which coincidentally are all three in my Top4 overall this year.
I think the Portuguese song is easier to digest than the Slovene one. I think we're getting more the Portuguese way to express themselves and the Slovene song it's like the "EAEA" of this year, too arty for a regular person looking for having fun, and not to be looking for the meaning of this "Veronika".
Slovenia struggles also with Televote, they made it last year because the song was a good feeling song, and they sold that feeling live, but with Raiven I don't feel that.
Serbia has a lot of diaspora in the countries voting tomorrow night, so it'd be a gagging moment if she don't make it.
Poland has a great televoting strength, so I don't think, they're missing the Grand Final either.
My Prediction:
Croatia - Ukraine - Ireland - Lithuania - Portugal - Serbia - Finland - Luxembourg - Poland - I agree the 10th place will be between Cyrus and Australia.

I think what people, might underestimate, especially in the semi finals where only the public vote counts, is the "diaspora" vote, i.e. people from countries voting for their country with foreign phone numbers. This obviously massively favours Ukraine, who has probably the biggest diaspora right now in other European countries, but also Moldova, Poland or the "Balkan" countries. As we've seen in the last years, they usually qualify and don't usually place at the last few places in the final, whereas countries such as Denmark, Iceland, Portugal (although maybe they'll get points from Luxembourg) and in the finals of course also the UK, Germany and Spain have comparatively little diasporas abroad which does seem to have an impact on qualifiers and the final results

I mostly agree... Except I don't see Poland in qualifiers. Instead I would love to see Slovenia there, but not sure.
If Slovenia will make it (and the rest will be as you predicted, except Poland) it would be almost ideal SF for me.
As I don't want to know something about odds or rehearsals at the moment, I just skipped to the end to see the result. If this happens 4/5 that are in my overall Top 10 would qualify ;) Just Azerbaijan wouldn't make it and I kind of understand it even without knowing much about the rehearsals. And even if it is not in my Top10, Veronika not qualifying would be very sad as it is one of the most thought-out songs this season.

What's kinda funny about Azerbaijan is they almost sent Aisel from 2018 and idk if that song would've qualified either (it's called Game of Chess). So in an alternate universe we could've had 3 returning artists not qualify.
I think Ireland is gonna probably have a similar outcome as Hatari in 2019. (Edgy/out there song that gets high in the televote but doesn't do too hot with juries).

I feel like Kypros, Serbia and Poland are the "borderline" qualifiers and atleast one of them will not qualify (because all 7 first songs qualifying would be mindblowing), but rest of the qualifiers feel pretty safe. And either Australia, Azerbaizan or Slovenia will qualify.
I would put Cyprus through over Australia. Would also like to see Azerbaijan pass through as well. So much will depend on a good performance.

Going last isn't as good now, as this year you can vote from when the first country starts their song, so anyone who hasn't seen all the songs will make up their mind and vote before the end. Going last is now a disadvantage.

I think Cyprus will qualify over Australia. Can't see the more conventional countries in Europe going for the latter. I also think Slovenia will go through (she's such a confident performer) and that perhaps Finland will bomb, and not..
I think the fact that Cyprus has been repeating the same things and having help from abroad makes fans underestimate it. Since 2015 the same mistake is made. Don't get me wrong, this song will not and does not deserve to do great. But the performance seems much more professional than 9-10 of these songs, even if it does lack that special oomph.
I predict Serbia NOT to qualify. Cyprus also to miss out. Australia is a surer qualifier for me than others are saying. Slovenia also probs won't make it. I think Azerbaijan, Moldova or Iceland might also be shock qualifiers. Maybe Luxembourg or Poland might not make it either.

My prediction: agree with you on 8/10;
Ireland out - Slovenia in: what kills Ireland for me is that it is before France, and I really really see the average viewers be like: "Look, this is how a good song with amazing vocals sounds like, not like the goth Irish entry". It will stand out but in a negative way, which is arguably worse. Slovenia has a similar vibe with Ireland but it is later in the running order, might take some votes off Bambie as well.
Serbia out - Cyprus in: you said it, Serbia is second, vocals not necessarily point, very slow song right at the beginning sandwiched between an energetic dancer and an up-tempo Luktelk. Their only lifeline is the support they have in the semi, but I am pretty confident it won't be enough.
One last thought: what do you personally think about the people boycotting because of Israel's participation, in terms of how will this be reflected in the televoting? That demographic, the young activist adults/teenagers, are also the ones who are the most likely to vote for entries such as Ireland. But i want to see what you think about it.

@@shummybooy6552 People who don't usually listen to/vote for these types of songs will not revoke their votes from Bambie, because they wouldn't voted for them in the first place. So no votes are lost there...

Tbh I think Cyprus has to go, it’s just a generic pop song and not my cup of tea. So is Poland but I much prefer the melodies in that song. Just my personal opinion. I really hope Serbia makes the final ❤
