I have never seen of single episode of Manhunt, but when I accidentally found and listened to this speech, I could hardly believe, after reading some comments, that it was intended to be an anti-patriotic rant !
I have rarely heard such a convincing and desperate call for the defense of one's heritage. Quite moving indeed.
Oh, by the way, I'm French, so you can't say I'm biased over this.
But as a patriotic Frenchman (and an anglophile as well), I could translate that speech, just changing the places and names, and it would be a perfect illustration of what we also feel across the old Channel.

"We were never asked". This sums up the large scale developing world immigration to Western Europe, North American, Australia and New Zealand. Our governments just did it. There was never any discussion with the electorate - it just happened and continues to happen. If there is just a conversation now about scaling it back even the tiniest bit its met with cries of racism, white nationalism, xenophobia, etc... I was born in 1960. I've watched my home state of California go from 80% white to 38% in the space of my middle aged life time. All of it from immigration - legal and illegal. No one's home should change that quickly. What's happened here is now happening all over the USA, plus our Western peers. And as the gentleman in the video said - we were never asked, we were told how how countries were to be.
Is it crazy to think that this guy was supposed to be a villain? This was supposed to be an *indictment* of the 'far right.' This show aired less than 20 years ago. Frankly, I would vote for this man.
I didn't see it at the time -- I have only seen it because it continues to circulate around the internet. But what did this guy say that was wrong? It sounds so good that I almost want to think it was a stealth endorsement, even at the time (I might have once credited it as 'skilled writers trying to surpass their own biases and make every side seem reasonable' but lol...it was the BBC. They don't HAVE unbiased writers).

I have an English Father, and a German Mother, and I can trace my English ancestry back by around 500 years. I recently had my genetics analysed, and the results speak for themselves. I am 76% English. I shan't bore you with the other details of my ancestry, however, i had a small percentage from Nordrhein-Westfalen, which is where my German Mother originates from. Exactly my friend, it was always about race, sadly most Englishmen still don't get it.
A very small number of politicians have a lot to answer for and yet we still vote for them and as a consequence our own self destruction.
It took quite a long time to get a move on with Brexit, but there might still be hope.
This speech is so rousing that it made me want to stand up and applaud the man,
even though I come from a nation known to have been at odds with Britain for most of the time since the Hundred-Year War.

How is loving ones country and wanting an identity bad? I think it makes you unique.If I go to India I expect to see brown people being the majority Indian culture etc.If I go to Europe I expect the Europeans dominating the country because well it’s there’s if you want diversity go travel stop demanding it and making the whole world the same

This very speech, with just a few minor adjustments, could perfectly describe the feeling of proud Southerners such as myself. Our country is under threat, too. And like the English, "We were never asked. We were told!"
The only part I disagree with is that 'we were never asked' OF COURSE WE WERE!
People were asked 'Do you want Nick Griffin as an MP?' and the people replied 'No!' we want pro-immigration Labour MPs.
At EVERY general election there were MPs (eg some Tories who were right-wing candidates unlike May, and BNP candidates) who were more pro immigration and others who are anti -immigration and the people voted pro-immigration.
In the Newport by-election this year the BP was not even standing and only 10% voted for UKIP/FB. So 90% voted for pro-mass-immigration liblabcon.
The ones to blame the most are the working class who even now insist on voting for the most pro-immigration party of all - LABOUR! This includes the SAME people who moan about immigration!
They COULD have voted for Nick Griffin, but CHOSE pro-immigration politicians instead.
In the next general election only 3% plan to vote for the only parties that plan to do anything about immigration (UKIP & FB). The other 97% plan to vote LibLabConBP - all parties that refuse to discuss immigration, and Farage even calling those who do so 'vile' and 'thugs'.
It really is quite simple - vote for pro-immigration MPS, get mass immigration! This is what happened, this is what is still happening.
