Marcus The Fire Breathing Duck gossip is alive and well even as we approach 2020. Today it also is known as bullying. Kids today should watch early films like this. Perhaps they would learn something.
@@belvinsweat7742 I agree. Usually, these types of films are cheesy and outdated even though they're fun to watch sometimes. And, there's also some that are awful when viewed through modern lenses. But, some of them actually have good lessons in them that stand the test of time like this one.
That ridiculous school teacher’s plan for choosing officers is just perfect training for teaching girls to BE gossips. Assigning people to interview others and snoop for dirt on the candidates. No telling how many lives that little game ruined.
They were to interview faculty and teachers, people who could objectively speak on their grades and integrity. Not students. Dispite her interviewers saying her friend was a great candidate and everyone in the meeting knew she was qualified, Laura had her removed from the list because of gossip from another student. Freida accused her friend of messing with her boyfriend, and that she helped him (and probably through him, others) cheat on the test.
"Freida" is the same female who has played as "The Snob," and as the one who thought so much of herself that she thought they were always putting her down (Sarah Jane). Keeping her in character, looks like.
If you go on a roof an tear a pillow open an let all the feathers fly away, then you try an gather an catch the feathers an put them back in the pillow you CAN'T an that's how gossiping is once it starts you can never grab all the lies and rumors an put them away!
What should she do? She should own her mistake and call out her behaviour. Gossip is part of live. It is how you deal with it. She should tell publicly that she lied and that her friend was behaving correctly. Putting things right, if you mess up, is so important. Owning your mistakes is as important.
I don't know, Laura folded like a cheap suit, and AFTER Jean specifically asked her to promise to come to her and not jump to conclusions... she wasn't much of a best friend to Jean, IMO. And the teacher's stupid instructions to basically spy and report on the candidates was just BOUND to cause trouble.
Watching this reminded me of a girl I knew in high school. I heard one girl say that the girl dropped out because she was having her third child. The girl had dropped out when she was a junior.
Probably due to clothes and hairstyles, but teens looked so old back then. I swear Freida was on another one of these school films as a shy girl who was always feeling left out.
The teen girls back then expected to marry and start raising children in a few more years. There wasn't this happy teenage years thing going on- kids had jobs and lots of household responsibilities...but whatever the reason, they simply DID look older. Even 18 year olds in the late 1960s looked like 28 year olds today. I think looking younger and having more fun is an improvement!
I heard a priest I know talking about gossip, and he made a great point: we tend to think of gossip as being mean-spirited, but it isn't always -- gossip is basically sharing information about someone with others that they don't need to know. Before sharing anything about someone else, ask yourself, "Does the person I'm telling really need to know this?" I hope Frieda ended up getting shunned by the whole school and having to eat by herself because of what a piece of crap she is.
This film made way before my time, portrayed the girls so well, I felt a strong urge to want to smack a couple of them, especially Frieda! They'd be eating their meals through straws for months! I think my friendship with Laura would never be the same again. Laura should have known better, especially after Jean first spoke to Laura about verifying any gossip coming out of Frieda's big mouth. 65 yrs later since this film came out, I find that these 'Frieda' types still flap their gossipy yaps, be they a student, co worker, neighbour etc.. It's human nature I suppose to get carried away with gossip, but one should never ever cross the line with the type of gossip that can hurt another.
As well as "Sarah Jane," who thought so highly of herself, she constantly thought everyone was talking about her behind her back. Even though she played the part of an "insecure" girl, it takes a lot of narcissism to believe EVERYONE even thinks about oneself, let alone TALKS about them!
The girl who plays the gossipy Frieda is also Sarah the snob in The Snob and Susan Jane the outsider in The Outsider video. She always gets the obnoxious kid roles. I wonder what she is doing now?
How is the snob a snob? She didn't want to go to her classmate's party and by the way they talked to her, I don't think I would have wanted to go. How is it that people who have different interests are obnoxious to you?
@@goose7215 She may have different interests, however, she is acting all snotty at the party. LIsten to how she talks to her classmates and her facial expressions of disgust and distain - like she's up on her high horse. I find that rude.
@@Lisa59 What about her classmates? Talking behind her back, making fun of her, ostracizing her, even her own damn parents. All she wanted to do was to study, finish homework. If she had to deal with those 2 faced people all the time without support from my parents, she basically earned the right to be a bit snobby. 2 faced bitch trumps being vague snobby. Seriously, fuck those girls

How (or why) anyone would be friends with the Frieda type is beyond me. I wouldn't waste my time with a motor mouth like that. Good actress though for pulling it off so well.
Apparently they were places to hangout at. In addition to buy OTC phamacueticals you could also go to the soda jerk and buy candies, desserts, snacks and beverages. They were out of style by the 70s and completely gone by the end of 80s
My mother was a book keeper for a drug store. Down one wall was the "soda fountain", with a counter with stools like a diner. You could get burgers, cokes, floats, and ice cream. There were the usual health and beauty supplies, like a CVS or Walgreens. In the back opposite the pharmacy (which was at the end of the soda fountain counter) were the stationary supplies, Cliff Notes, comic books, magazines, and all sorts of paperbacks. The store had its own special smell, which was wonderful. Nothing like it today. It was magical.
I’d be so uncomfortable hanging around the house all dressed up for studying 😂😂😂 It’s all what we’re used to. The 70’s undid a lot of dress standards. Burn the bra 😂 Or was that the 60’s? I had to wear a dress everyday that wasn’t gym class. In the late 70’s early 80’s. By 1991, I still woke two hours early for big hair and makeup.
Jean and Laura were the school gossips until Freida found them in the janitor's closet in a "compromising position." They were not counting the brooms and mops. When Jean and Laura dropped by the drug store after school, they were the major topic of conversation among the football players!
Here is what happened afterwards: Frieda Thompson and her clique The Black Hearts became the reigning group in the community and Frieda became mayor for life. The Black Hearts became the city council and turned the community into a police state. Laura was forced to become a member of The Black Hearts and was forced to be in an enlisted officer in the city police force. Jean ran away from the community and became a hermit in the desert southwest, where she died in 1973. Larry Smith became the town idiot and was killed in a catapult incident in 1984. Jim O’Donnell married Cynthia Smith shortly after Jean ran away and they went to Central City, where they had three children: Violet, Jim Jr, and Aphrodite. They lived happily ever after.
