For friends asking about the island and the direction it’s facing! I didn’t get a chance to talk about it in the video, but it would have been way too tight to have the cabinets and microwave face the oven. There’s so much more space on the other side, and since the dining table is so close, we aren’t using it for seating - just prep. Had to get creative in our little 7x10’ kitchen! The kitchen is looking gorgeous! I'm excited to see it when it is completely finished. Also, I love that you got the rounded edges on the countertops. I think it looks better and is definitely safer than those pointy corners (I mean if you are as clumsy as me 😆)
Your kitchen is lovely...I like your choices of B&W and simple Shaker design...makes the space seem larger than it is...but I do have to ask...why you have the drawers and micro on the outside of your island? wouldn't it be more convenient to have the micro face the fridge? I realize it is a small space and I'm just curious about your thought process. We had electrical sockets/USB ports installed on each side of our island along with a pull out shelf for our really heavy stand mixer (my wife does a lot of baking). Love the remodel so far! Great work!!!

Well, if I am not mistaken, Sam is either late, 20s, or early 30s ? So, he is not that young ! I think the fact that he has an active job laughs a lot & seems to have a fulfilling life equals a very young look ! I agree that Sam is lucky to spend such quality time with her dad ! ♡♡♡ My dad passed not that long after I graduated high school, and I miss him deeply !

Looking awesome! I gotta say, I was pretty impressed by the construction of those cabinets, compared to my past experience with big-box store cabinetry, they seem to be a big step up. We were just talking about building an island with an under counter microwave so I’m definitely going to look into the one you got! Also, as impressive as all this work is, it’s just as impressive the amount of forethought like, what, 6-8 months ago? to say “OK, I’m going to need an outro that calls out 2 upcoming videos when this finally comes out in February.” 🙌🏻

I am always shocked to see how big and in your face the appliances are in the USA. That fridge is half of my kitchen size.. you could store like 2 months of food in there. Here in Europe most of the appliances are made to be build in, saving so much room and looks less bulky.
Well, the area near the stove is pretty tight, space wise & since her & her hubby will likely be both cooking, this frees up some space. Also, note how close the dining table is - no need for stools for seating at the island, either. This is just a guess, will be interested in Sam's 2 cents ! 😉 DO thank Sam for showing that hardware jig. I was curious !

I think standing in front of the blank side of the island for prep is genius. Then you're not blocking access to the micro or the other cabinet while you're using the countertop.
I'm just realizing that my kitchen is exactly like yours but I used the entire space. My sink is under the window that was your dining room, my stove is in the corner by the door. Fridge is by the opposite side of the door with cabinets wrapped around under and over by that small window. My full length 6 foot wide pantry/appliance garage is where your fridge is. Small island down the middle
It looks so great! Very functional layout for a smaller space, and the white cabinets with black countertops makes it look timeless. I can't wait to see the whole reveal!

Great looking kitchen and proof that you can make good looking kitchen with "off the shelf" cabinets, it doesn't have to be custom to look great. I would add some shelves over dishwasher to tie in whole space, but I guess backsplash will come in next episodes and also add to cohesion on whole space. Great job!
Hey, I came from Dannie's, after the not wood, not small, not under $100 thrift challenge. I think I just might stay awhile! Just wondering, is that floor wood or laminate? If it's laminate it looks great! Even if it's wood of course it does but usually you can tell the difference & that looks like wood. I'll be really surprised if you say laminate!!! Yah, I think I will stay... Great to be on board!

Why did you orient the microwave cupboard and drawers facing out of the kitchen? Would it not have been more user friendly having them face the fridge and stove? Just wondering.
The kitchen is too tight to have room for the microwave drawer to open on the oven side, and since the dining table is so close, we decided to use the other side for storage/microwave instead of seating. Had to get creative in a small space. ☺️
Thank you! It’s actually too tight in the kitchen to be able open the cabinets toward the oven and access what’s in them. Also, since we did a microwave drawer, this gives it more room to open.
I think the shot at 13:00 shows the amount of space. I think she also said she wasn't deciding on the island until it was clear to her that there was enough room. Also, she installed the island with the microwave facing the other way so as not to overcrowd the area towards the stove and fridge. I can't imagine she'd do that but not allow enough room to open the oven door all the way.
Yes! I was playing around with the layout in the beginning for this exact reason. That’s why I had to put the microwave on the other side of the island. Gave me more room for the oven. 🙂
Sam, we are doing the same thing in our flip house but you are WAY ahead of us. We just got a dishwasher for the flip house, and unlike Home Depot, oh my goodness. The time range was 1 - 5 for our dishwasher (we called Lowes to add my number for the delivery people since my wife got busy with other things. Guess what Lowes failed to do - I hate you Lowes. The drivers were independent contractors and waited 1/2 hour since they did not know about my phone number. I don't blame them because Lowes does not do this well and it was just a miserable afternoon since the drivers fully let us know their ordeal - endlessly.
I can! It’s a blind cabinet and it goes all the way back to the wall. They didn’t have 42” tall cabinets, and if I hug these any higher I won’t be able to reach them. I’ll tackle this more in the next video!
That fridge us ginormous. Does anyone without 5 kids actually need a fridge that big? Europeans get smaller ones without sacrificing quality of life. Did you consider a smaller one?
It’s actually not as big as it looks! We went with a counter depth fridge, which means it’s thinner than a traditional fridge. It fills up pretty easily after a trip to the grocery store.
If you think that ones big you should see some of actual big ones lol. That one is like perfect for 1-3 persons. I myself have a tiny fridge and it’s really awful trying to tetris things in it after grocery shopping. Most people in the us do not go grocery shopping every day or every other day we shop for a week two if possible.

It’s actually not as big as it looks! We went with a counter depth fridge, which means it’s thinner than a traditional fridge. It fills up pretty easily after a trip to the grocery store.
If you think that ones big you should see some of actual big ones lol. That one is like perfect for 1-3 persons.
I myself have a tiny fridge and it’s really awful trying to tetris things in it after grocery shopping. Most people in the us do not go grocery shopping every day or every other day we shop for a week two if possible.
