Yes Gee. The bigger the reach between the machine body and the needle is how much distance you can sew (theoretically). The roller will take up space so if you purchase a 18" reach, you may start out stitching 15-16". Also, as you roll the quilted areas on the take up bar, you will loose additional space due to increased thickness.
Correct! You will need to roll more. The problem I have with smaller areas is sometimes I can fit an entire quilt block in the quilting area when custom quilting. I have to roll back and forward as I'm stitching. It's doable, just takes a little more effort. However, it's way better than quilting on a regular home sewing machine!
Thank you for all the time you invested in making these videos for us. It really makes it easier for us to make a decision. I live in OKC, OK. I'm gonna see if GAMMIL has a dealership in my area. Thanks again Tea!!
My pleasure Elle. That's my reason to be on RUclips, to answer questions, telling you what I know. I pray you have a successful journey and let any dealer know you received information from my video would be great. I don't get any commissions, just want them to be aware. Also, thanks for subscribing.
teaquilts I will definitely let the dealer know I learned about them from your videos. I only hope a dealer is close to me cuz my hubby will not take me to a quilt show 🙁 I know. So sad. But they are all about 6-12 hours away and he’s a 100% disabled veteran so it’s harder for him. Wish I knew a quilter close to me and we’d go together!!
Gammill is a great product. I've only had minor issues, a few my own fault. Even is not really close, you will enjoy this machine. They will even mail to you at no cost if the product is defective. There is a group that sells used machines. I would even recommend that, if you don't have all your funds saved. Just google used gammill vision 2.0 for sale.
Thank you for taking the time to make these very helpful videos. I'm thinking about buying a long arm machine so I am only in the research phase. Your information has been very helpful. Thanks
Very helpful. I just wish I had the room or a Gammill. My space is about 8,5 by 14.5. I like the sturdiness of the system. So I'm totally torn about the system I want to purchase. Smart to save for the machine before your retired. I am retired and working that part out. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Rosemary. I hope you saw my other video on Things to Consider When Purchasing a Longarm. This video was a response to question about my purchase.
Did you have and thoughts about the mechanical type machines like the Gammill, and an electronic machine like the majority of new machines on the market today?
I'm confused about mechanical type machines. All longarm machine can be hand driven OR you purchase the software to make them computerized. I have not done a comparison video as I've only sewed for an extended amount of time on the Gammill and Tin Lizzie (which no longer is being made). I wouldn't be an expert for that and don't want to represent any company wrongly.
Hi Denise, yes, it has a warranty with the purchase. The disposable parts like needles, needle plate, etc are not. Some are for 1 year and others go up to 10 years or more. I can't remember the particulars. I guess I forgot to add that information into the video. In the future, I'll add another video.
Tea, does the "reach" refer to the distance "across" the machine? I assume the 26-10 refers to the length from left to right?

Insightful! It could take a while to complete the work when working on such a small area.
Thx for your insight😆😊😊

I have had my machine for seventeen years. No regrets. It is a workhorse.
