@sebcalabro6252 ,in theory, they work the same way and are simular to the mayland tape primer used in the 1860's with real black powder. The issue would be the heat of the spark produced would not be hot enough or of sufficient magnitude to ignite any significant powder charge - not in a way to be considered usable or reliable with the modern powders.
It doesn't matter if it was filmed in someone's living room, a round cannot fire, unless it's in a weapon. The gas from the round has to push the round down the bore of the barrel. You can set off a round outside of a weapon and it won't do anything. It will just make a Bang from the noise of the primer going off. Just like in house fires, the round can cook off and make a banging noise, but it won't actually fire the projectile.
yup, the pops are just the primer going off. You can see the powder spill out of the side of the cases, and the thick residual smoke is the powder burning in open air. I've had to pop a few primers by hand the get a stuck case out of a sizing die, a primer can still mess you up if you aren't being careful.
Oh jeez, yet another grunt who thinks tours in the sandbox make them an expert in firearms engineering.... Even though all that metal and gunpowder isn't being contained with the confines of a chamber, that is still a lot of metal and propellant _tightly sandwiched_ between two strong pieces of steel. A friend was heating a brass with a primer for fun. No powder or bullet he put it in a vise and was heating it with a map gas torch. I think it was a 38 but it was over 30 years ago.
