Who knows what Warner Brothers is actually going to do with Superman? Not me. So, I made a pitch that can work as either Man of Steel 2 or it's own thing. And then everything changed...except the pitch.

Wait Nando I think you meant to send this to James Gunn, not to us! Now they can’t do it!
Oh no!
@@NandovMovies you better delete this video and send it to James Gunn now
@@brewmaster2912I agree
I second this. DC should be lucky to have Nando on their writing team
Don't forget about the Mostly Nitpicking loophole! As long as Nando brings this up on the podcast we should be safe. It will be manifested into existence. 🖤
Dude framing the elites arc through Irons' moral quandary is literally genius. I also think you could legit pitch this.
The fact Luthor’s plan seems to actually have a valid point makes him a great villain
Personally I'm over Luther. He was the villain in:
- Superman I;
- Superman II;
- Superman IV;
- Superman Returns; and
- Batman vs Superman.
Can we please have someone else? If a person who never read the comics were to watch the movies they'd think Superman spends most of his time against Luther.
@@aussiewanderer6304 till this day the only lex live action I've liked is the Smallville one
@@aussiewanderer6304 I think having Luthor be a background villain is fine. He isn’t going out and fighting Clark himself, not yet at least. This way has us build up Luthor, introduce new villains to the audience and create that dynamic between Clark and Luthor early on.
I love the focus on Luthor, he deserves to be portrayed well on the big screen again
I want him to be like how I want Joker in Matt Reeves’ Batman movies: a looming threat in the background just waiting to strike
Has he ever been portrayed well on the big screen? Gene Hackman was just as awful as Eisenberg, only in a different way
@@sailordaigurren8225 He's only ever been portrayed well on TV
@kobi7955 absolutely. Superman: TAS was excellent.
Yay again
One aspect I really enjoy from your treatment of this Superman movie is how it not only doesn’t act as an origin for Superman, but also an origin for this new DC world. Like, rather than having everyone be surprised by the coming of a new hero or whatever, this is a world that has already seen its fair share and we’re only just getting introduced to it. Kinda like walking into the world of the Venture Brothers with it’s rich history, or John Wick with it’s lowkey hints at a broader world.
You know it's fire when Nando drops a movie pitch can't wait this is going to be hyped
Seems like a neat antithesis to the modern superhero stories all about ‘this genre is dumb and/or needs irony/grittiness’
Bro vwhat
Nandi needs to do a DCU prewrite/pitch with Troyoboyo where they just talk for an hour and write up a list of all the movies they want for the phases 1-3/4 of the DCU. Instant banger video
FAX
SO TRUE (also Nandi lol)
I’m not familiar with John Henry Irons in the comics but he does have another live action appearance as a sort of main character in Superman & Lois and I found him pretty entertaining. Great pitch Nando, I love Manchester Black as the antagonist
He actually makes quite a few appearances in the DCAU.
Edit: Also, if they make Manchester Black the main villain, then it’ll make up for… His appearance in Supergirl.
His portrayal in Season 1 of S&L is basically the opposite of his comics origins and personality. I’m sure that was intensional-a neat trick to play on the folks who knew his name from the comics and never would’ve expected this. As well as just the fun of revealing “Captain Luthor” is t actually Luthor.
@@TF2Fan101I kind of liked his portrayal in Supergirl. It was rushed, for sure, but it captured the essence of the character and story.
I definitely like the direction that James Gunn plans to go in by making the characters younger, but not necessarily retelling their origins. For Superman, I think that should come in the form of backtracking all the way to his debut in Metropolis. Krypton’s destruction and Clark’s childhood can be skipped over, but I think showing the people of Metropolis be first introduced to and fall in love with Superman is a crucial part of the character’s story. Better yet, it’s the perfect starting off point for a trilogy with that relationship between Clark and humanity as the dramatic through line and Lex as the overarching villain. The trilogy could go as such:
First film - Based on Secret Origin, Clark makes his debut in Metropolis and gradually wins the people over. Lex is the only one who’s unconvinced.
Second film - This can expand on the dynamic by having Clark fight the Elite and humanity’s loyalty to him be tested as they begin to prefer Black’s vigilantism. Ultimately, Clark wins their favor back.
Third film - Lex runs for president, but loses when Clark finally exposes his crimes and the two have their climactic fight.
If it's all possible for the next ones, then we can introduce Apollo and Midnighter of sorts.
I really like this. Really nails the character of Superman on the head. This is a great way to remind everyone about who Superman is after so long.
I don't know what it was about this pitch, but I was so invested that, by the time he showed up in the story, I had completely forgotten we were doing the Manchester Black story, and I was surprised for a half-second.
This was awesome! You took a little-known but highly marketable story, gave Superman villains who could challenge him, found meaningful reasons to include both Luthor and Steel that actually felt organic, told a story that was both logical while also challenging superman's philosophical outlook, and you ended with a conclusion that's better than the original. I'd watch this movie!
@OfficialNandovMovies. Happy New year! How do I message you?
@@zachnewman7115 it’s a scam mate, don’t fall for it :)
Not only this is a great pitch, I can totally picture James Gunn having this same idea.
I'm sorry but has anyone else thought Jonn Jonzz was the best contender for Superman's bff. Talk about someone who gets him on a fundamental level. The Man of Tomorrow did a great job representing Martian Manhunter and his similarities with Clark and Lobo.
YES!! I really liked Man Of Tomorrow having J’onn as Clark’s “mentor” figure, but I think it would be a really heartwarming story if it were the reverse, sort of like in the DCAU. Superman could already be an established superhero when he meets Martian Manhunter and helps the cynic learn to love humanity and Earth.
Give my man Nando the movie he needs, I love watching his pitches and accurately picking the perfect cast for each role.
Man, these videos always get me excited for the future of these universes. The potential is just so great
Had me questioning Superman in real time. This is a phenomenal pitch
The original superman vs the elite film also had George Newbern at his most 'Sephiroth-y' portrayal of Superman.
"Orbit. He went into orbit at mach 7."
John D. Washington as John Henry Irons is my dream casting ❤ and I LOVE that Sup’s friend is a human black man. In a meta level he can relate to Sup (and they can bond) as an alien in a foreign land and the mistrust inherent in that and that you are only accepted/liked if you “toe the line” and as such to see either “Angry” is not just scary, it’s unacceptable in a way it never is with Batman. And their unrecognized appreciated efforts. And when you think of the Justice League you immediately think of Bats and WW but I would love the third main character anyone thinks of is John Henry Iron. A human black man. Not another alien that looks black.
"doesn't capture whats fun about the art but the essence is there." basically describes every single dc animated film lol
Man, this is the perfect Superman movie. Also you could change The Elite for The Authority and tie in this to their own movie.
I love this pitch. I especially like using Manchester Black and the Elite because I absolutely love that story
While I like the pitch I don’t feel like it’s right for the Young Superman story they’re trying to tell. It’s about a Clark in his early days as a reporter in Metropolis while from this pitch I still get the impression Clark has been Supes for 5-10 years already. This would work better as a sequel to the reboot Superman. You can even have the big battle John Henry Iron’s backstory is connected to be a. Battle in a Justice League movie that happens between the first and second Superman movie.
Justice League needs to be last.
Idc what anyone says the best interaction in live action between Lex and Superman is in Lois and Clark:The new adventures of Superman. Lex says he built his building as the tallest building because he loves that people have to look up to him. Later Superman stops him and flys above the building and says “I’ll always be around, you just have to look up” or something along those lines.
I'm gratified that your pitch for a Superman movie is so much like mine! (Although my version is more like a Year Two story, a la The Battinson, and spends more time with Clark as a person.) I've been saying for a long while that Supes is literally the linchpin of the DC universe, so if you don't set him up the right way - as the model hero not because of his powers, but because of his values - the whole thing will be unbalanced.
Your canons and ideas are my favourite head canons, I really hope you'll get to write movies like these one day.
Yesss I am still early on in the video but i absolutely agree with "Whats so funny..." being the basis for the newest Superman movie. It perfectly reflects our times and (with a few tweaks) can play off of how we view superheroes today and form a new identity for Supes in the public consciousness. Excited to hear where your ideas for this go!
Update after watching: Absolutely LOVE your pitch. I was a little apprehensive once you started adding characters but Lex and especially Steel's involvement work perfectly- I'd love to see this movie become real!
Fancasting the Justice League…?
That’d be cool.
@@OfficialNandovMovies..... I don’t think Nando uses emojis sorry
I was quite glad to see Manchester Black in the thumbnail. Just watched Superman vs. the Elite and it’s a great direction to go.
I really like the idea of Manchester Black as the villain and the complete lack of kryptonite(I could do a 20 minute video on everything I hate about that green rock). Not a huge fan of Luthor appearing in yet another Superman movie, but I like how he was used here, so you definitely swayed me.
All in all, I love the idea, it makes a lot of sense, so you just know WB is going to go in a completely different direction and leave us disappointed yet again.
David Corenswet for Superman!, David Corenswet for Superman!, David Corenswet for Superman!
If you say it two more times he will appear in the mirror behind you
I like the tight action structure and Superman addressing challenges to his own relevance, but he still feels a little too reactive in this. I'd prefer a Superman story that centers his secret identity and why he feels he needs one. A strongly character building story that sees him as a proactive force.
That can be the second one!
I just watched the Superman vs The Elite recently and this story is perfect for live action. I love the addition of Steel, he deserves to be put in the spotlight. I would love to see this pitch realIzed somehow.
I've been waiting for this video for so long. It may have only been like 2 weeks, but thats long enough. Love your videos!
I think adapting this story is perfect for the next live action Superman.
Just letting everyone know that Overly Sarcastic Productions has two awesome long form videos about the importance of Superman that I highly recommend.
And yes. I’d love a live action depiction of Steel. He’s so cool.
My casting for a Superman reboot:
- Wolfgang Novogratz as Superman/Clark Kent.
- Emma Mackey as Lois Lane.
- Theo James as Lex Luthor.
- Noah Schnapp as Jimmy Olsen.
Never really understood why Lex Luthor needs to be physically imposing.
Especially since he’s not remotely in the same league as Supes physically, needs a mech suit to fight him, and the fact that their back and forth game trying to outwit with the other under their own respective constraints and limitations is always the most interesting part of their dynamic and not “who can hit each other the harder”.
Idk a de-emphasis on physicality wouldn’t really bother me.
My read on it is Lex Luthor doesn't just consider himself the smartest man alive. He is the peak of human achievement. Always doing whatever he can to prove he's better than Superman. So that would include working out.
Nando (as usual) got it right on the money. Lex shouldn’t be “fight Superman” strong, he should be “People Magazine’s sexiest man alive” strong. He should look like the American ideal of fitness and (realistic) physical conditioning, so that even his appearance feeds into his “Superman isn’t natural, I should be the best” narrative. He should be imposing when standing next to other humans, and it should drive him insane that Superman still effortlessly makes him look anemic and weak.
Lex is more about being the smartest than the strongest. He’s a guy that likes to manipulate the strongest person in the room not be that person.
My biggest hope for the next Superman movie… Copper Hoffman is cast as Jimmy Olson, he is so perfect for the role. Also, Sam Claflin would make a great Lex Luthor. We know he has the charisma from The Hunger Games movies. Plus if you ever saw him in Peaky Blinder, you'd see he has a lot charisma and ruthlessness to be a great Lex Luthor.
This actually could work if you make the Elite into the Authority, which DC is setting up. It actually wouldn’t lose much because The Elite are a satire of 90s comics teams and in particular The Authority. Have The Authority function in the same role and then see how their interactions with Superman changes them in their own movie
Love your show and podcast, listed to a ton of episodes driving home for holidays lol
Of note: steel was featured heavily in Lois and Superman in the CW...
Favorite RUclips channel easily. So insightful, thoughtful, and I die laughing in every video
I know he looks like Superman, but Personally, I’d love to see Jon Hamm as Lex Luthor.
I mean having someone who looks like superman be Luthor is an interesting idea
Your pitches are always interesting
Needs more of a development between Irons & Luthor. Irons lying about completing the robot suit (Irons only developing a working prototype) and then quitting when Luthor bankrolls The Elite, taking the specs with him. Only to reveal, maybe in a post-credit scene, that Luthor copied the specs and will be using that to develop his own super suit in the future.
Great video. I like the breakdown and that animated movie I really enjoyed, so a live action adaptation would be dope!
I've been watching your videos for quite some time now and your content is TOP TIER!!!!
Loving these pitches lately!
Perfect casting for Manchester Black would be Joseph Gilgun (aka Rudy from Misfits and other things of course)
Oh my gosh around 12 I was looking for a superman video by you 🤣
Synder saying what Manchester said is the antithesis of Superman’s way. Makes you wonder if he was ever the right guy to direct Superman to begin with.
He should've directed a Batman film with a more recognisable tone that makes Batman more than just a dark character
This story got me emotional in the best ways possible, awesome job Nando!
I've been waiting for this video ever since I heard the announcement can't wait to sit down and watch
That quick action scene at the beginning should be the moment John Henry Irons refers to. It could be Brainiac attack and we don't need to see it play out in full, just the magnitude of the destruction.
This, maybe in all honesty, is the first time I’ve totally agreed with you. Love!!!
This has gotten me so excited for the future of DC, even if this isn't official. So much potential is there and I'm really excited to see what Gunn does with it
Nando at it again with the superb pitch ideas
All of of the previous Superman films(especially Snyder) absolutely forget that Superman is an idealist who looks not just toward the future. But towards tomorrow specifically because he takes it a day at a time just like everyone else.
Nando, can you make a video on Legion please? I think it is one of the greatest superhero TV shows ever and it's criminally underrated.
And as always, great videos brother, it's amazing how you're able to maintain the quality in each video.
I personally want Parasite as a villain. But, your pitch is incredible. Superman dealing with modern cynicism leads to one of the greatest stories including Superman. Jesse Eisenberg resembled Mark Zuckerberg more than Luthor.
Wow. Amazing pitch. Subscribed and liked
Happy New Year Nando 🌟
Saw the thumbnail and so excited to see how you'd use him. Loved him in that netflix werewolf show. Too bad it got canceled
The “Dream World” speech is easily one of Superman’s best in my opinion
I think its a really great pitch. I do hope that they do more of Clark. This is a very superman heavy story, which is expected for a blockbuster, but I really would like to learn more about the day in the life of clark.
My pitch: A frame story. *Clark Kent,* not Superman, finds someone about to commit suicide & they compare their worst days to each other. One of his involves Superman fighting someone stronger than him, like Darkseid or Doomsday, while the other involves the people he cares about in trouble he can't fix, like Lois contracting cancer. His last story is both, him & Kara fighting their fathers, Cyborg-Superman & Mr. Oz.
yes!!!!!! the DC fancasting is coming!!!!!!! happy holidays nando
I like your lego groot that's in the background
Love the video! Imo I think the newest Supermans origin in the new dcamu is almost perfect. I love the idea of lobo searching for him and I think lobo being played by Jason mamoa would be great instead of just scrapping mamoa as an actor
I thought the concept was excellent it intrigued me it drew me in it kept me entertained what more could anyone ask for, great pitch!
Thank you for your service
I really like most of your pitch! The one thing I don't really like is that Superman is constantly being physically dominated. You have him losing every fight but the last one. I don't buy that as Superman and bet others will have similar hangups.
Why not take Superman off the board temporarily because he's seriously questioning his position or the public turns on him--a moral/philosophical exile rather than a physical beat down? Just a thought.
Great video! Sorry for the unsolicited notes haha
I’ve been waiting for this video.
This is very similar to a pitch tht I wrote up. Luthor and Irons were there, only difference I had was the villain is parasite. Also, have one that uses Luminous instead. I wanted the Elite byt couldn’t figure out how to write it. But this would be perfect.
The way I wanted you to use footage from Superman and Lois.... Just love that iteration of Supes lol
Nando out here killing it as per usual!! Keep up the great work dude.
Superman vs The Elite is my favourite Superman film, and I have always thought Manchester Black and The Elite are highly underrated villains aa a juxtaposition to Clark's morals and optimism. Btw I love your focus on John Henry Iron and Lex Luthor (Billy Zane has always been my top casting for Lex Luthor, regardless of his age)
Thank you so much for using the Elite story arc. I also believe it's the best Superman story. Totally explains why he's relevant
“Lex Luthor would never tweet.”
-Nando
Love this pitch, and the casting choices for Luthor & Irons!
I have a question about Nebula. Do you know if your other Nebula exclusives will ever make it to RUclips at some point? Your videos are the closest thing to actually convince me to check it out but sadly I don't really have the income to get a streaming service, even if it is $12 a year. If not thats 100% okay obviously! Im mostly just curious because I love your videos and I wanna give support as much as I can 💙💜
WHOEVER is cast as super man I just want him to look like he does in the comics!
Great movie pitch! Genuinely excited to see what Gunn does with Superman. My only critique with this pitch is (in my opinion) Lois & Clark shouldnt be engaged or married in this film. Later down the line sure but like this is the start of this new DC verse I wanna see them explore the Clark/Lois relationship. Besides that great video!
I remember in the original comic the only interact Supes and Steal have is when Supes ask him if the world has move on. We need that interaction in the movie
I should be Superman
Wow I never thought about it that way
You should!
You never know where life will take you.
Nah, Lex Luther fits you better. After the last actor’s performance you can go nowhere but up.
No.
Bro I’m watching this movie in my head as you narrate it. Amazing
Your scripts are so amazing. You make me actually want to watch a Superman movie!
Great pitch! Love it
One thing I'd tweak slightly so we can get some fun fan service: when Superman falls into the ocean, we get just some brief dialogue. "There's another conflict in Atlantis, and they need their king... but the surface? They need their Superman." And Steel doesn't actually dive under the water. He sees Superman on the surface. And some dolphins or something swimming away. (dialogue only, because we don't know who the new Aquaman will be, though I'm sure you have some casting ideas lol.)
This is probably the best foundation for the new DCEU to Stand On. I really hope we get something close to this. It's simple, it's not an origin. It's different from any other superman movie and it could lead to many possible Stories down the line. The unfortunate thing is. I don't think Gunn is the right person for this either. I never thought Snyder was either. But I just don't see Gunn going in this type of direction. That being said this story is super cool and I fully was picturing this movie as I watching this
Love this pitch. Great ideas.
Love the pitch.
Personally I had thought a Superman movie where he’s investigating Intergang as Clark and fighting them as Superman.
Metallo would be a major antagonist who would work adjacent with Intergang as a sort of Freelancer as he has a personal beef with supes.
Also I’ve always liked Theo James as any number of “scientist or professor” type characters but mainly Anthony Ivo, if he could bring some of his Hector from Castlevania energy that would be great.
Finally Tom Felton as Manchester Black.
Not one mention of the John Henry’s irons in Superman and Lois tv show? He’s great! And had great fights that could have been used as reference footage
Love it this is a amazing pitch
That "however" moment was amazing and I can't quite explain or even understand why/how.
I want to see Tyler Hoechlin in his own Superman movie. I know he is playing a more experienced Superman in Superman and Lois (great show) and that is why I want to see him in a movie exploring more of his early years. It's not impossible as I know James Gunn wants a younger Superman, Tyler Hoechlin is 35 one year younger than Robert Pattinson as Batman who is 36 and is in Year 2 as Batman. And James Gunn has said he wants to connect the movies, shows and games together into one universe.
You should do a pitch for Batman, Flash, Wonder Woman and Aquaman reboot
It's finally here!
Here's how they should do the DCU: Create a trilogy of Superman movies similar to what Matt Reeves is doing with Batman except in a lighter tone. They are in different DC cities/states, not next to each other, so it is easy to keep them separated initially and not necessary to have them interact right away. Just because they exist in their own "world" doesn't mean they can't coexist in the same universe. Similarly, do the same with Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Flash, etc and have them deal with their own supervillains in their respective geographic locations for at least their first two movies. All of them starting year 2 or later. No origin story. Origin stories can be done later as flashback or streaming series. Batman (Robert Pattinson) can then recruit them individually, with brief cameo in their third movies, bringing them together for the Justice League in the space tower to deal with existential threats that these heroes can't handle by themselves. They can still reference the existence of the other superheroes without actually making a cameo similar to how Matt Reeves did with citizens in Gotham wearing Halloween costumes of other heroes. That will build the anticipation more for the audience to want to see some crossovers and big Justice League movie and makes more sense than finding a file, he stole from Lex Luthor, with folders on them because Batman would already be aware of them and be building a contingency plan before bringing them all together.
I like the pitch. I’d start the movie with a short skirmish between Superman and the less villain that is killed by Manchester black later with Superman saving John Henry Irons during the battle.
