I’m listening to this walking on a treadmill briskly at full incline, wearing a sweatshirt, springtime in Arizona, I got chills multiple times!! Especially when she mentioned the 7 levels as opposed to 7 devils. Woman are put on pedestals for good reason, queens, goddesses but veiled and not written about to keep sacred. I needed this, it paints mothers, daughters and especially wives in a new light. Righteous men always revere women especially their wives, treat them as equal, there’s no king without a queen. You truly are the towers in our lives.

I appreciate Mandy's approach...we really do not know for sure on many things, but there are all kinds of traditions that are fun to examine and look into. History is like this: messy, with many uncertain pieces. But it has so many beautiful angles to think about.

While on my mission many years ago, our district had a lesson with a teacher of institute or seminary teacher. I can’t remember but I always loved what he taught us about Mary. He in fact believed that she was the Savior’s wife. She was the first one that he appeared to, she went to embrace him and you just didn’t do that within that culture. She helped prepare his body for burial, so she wasn’t just a follower allowed to do that. He even suggested that the miracle of turning water to wine at the wedding was in fact His own wedding. Why would his mother come to Him about the wine. I thoroughly believe what he was saying. It makes absolute sense to me. The Savior had to be married to be perfected.

In high school seminary back in 1989, studying the New Testament, i had this inkling that Mary was something more than just a follower of Christ. I called her Jesus’ girlfriend bc she was always around him. When Dan Brown Da Vinci code movie premiered, it peaked my interest again bc it stirred up the female population of the church. The hymn “Oh My Father” 2nd verse, “Inthe heavens are parents single,… truth is reason, tells me I’ve a mother there”… I will stand in this camp with the Mary Tower of power. Kudos Mandy for bringing this forward again . The women are rising again

I love studying Mary Magdalene. Recently I studied a connection between Mary and the Mona Lisa. There is a documentary that shows an original painting detected underneath the Mona Lisa. It’s believed to be possibly be the Virgin Mary but I believe it might actually be Mary Magdalene. I was so fascinated by what I have learned that I was going to make a video about it. Here’s a few of the many interesting things I connected while researching this. I’ll also paste a link to the documentary about the hidden painting under the Mona Lisa.
“Mona” in Italian is short for the name Simon. Also short form of Madonna “my lady”. In Irish it means noble good. In Greek it means one. derived from God's adjective "Meuona" from ancient Persian, which means who exists forever. In Hebrew it means pomegranate. In old English it means “moon”. Moons of course are always connected to women (there is a lot of symbolism in Mona meaning moon. The pomegranate symbolised fertility in Ancient Greece and Rome. It had a strong association to Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love, as well as Hera, the Greek goddess of marriage and childbirth. In some Abrahamic legends, it was a pomegranate tree that was the Forbidden Fruit in the Garden of Eden that made Adam and Eve fall from innocence.
“Lisa” means “God is my oath”. “Devoted to God”. Short for Elizabeth. Elizabeth refers to the Lily. The Lily is connected to Christ and Mary Magdalene.
Now Leonardo carried the Mona Lisa painting everywhere he went. Why? Because it was important to him. Possibly scared? The original portrait shows the woman is wearing a veil with 12 Pearl hair pins holding it in place. I’ll stop there but I found so much that reminds of what I read in Vern Swanson’s book when it first came out. Fascinating stuff!

I haven’t been able to get past that yet. I know everyone loves the series so please don’t school me. Funny thing is after watching this the first time last year, I was spending an afternoon on the Family Tree app and one line went back to Joseph and Mary! I’d love to think it is accurate.

Thank you for this! I have long thought of Mary Magdalen as the Savior's wife, for the reasons you have stated. I don't have a degree but have spent 38 years studying the life of Joseph Smith and Jesus Christ.I spent many hours in libraries and also buying books. I'm now gonna have to buy more! My testimony is that if Jesus had to come to earth and be our exemplar in all things, marriage is one of those things. I believe the scriptures are silent about His Private life because it's a sacred thing, as it should be. My first indication that Mary was something more to Jesus, for me, was the fact that He appears to her first, after the Resurrection. What man would NOT appear to his wife after such an horrendous ordeal? Either his wife or his mother. That thought lead me on a quest for answers. I came to realize yes, she was His wife and I rejoice in it. Now I'm old, and not an Accredited scholar, so all my research is just a benefit to me, but I'm glad it's being discussed openly now! Thanks again and now I've got more reading to do!

This is really fun to listen to. You have some interesting theories. Because of my own personal revelation and a sacred experience I know for surety that the wife of Jesus was not a redhead. Remember that all these things you discuss are theories based on as much understanding as you can possibly put together, but they are in the end just theories. I have a feeling that God has so much more yet to reveal to us. There is so much that we do not yet understand. Most of us don't even have the tools necessary to understand everything.

Many things do lead to that Jesus was married to Mary m . Apostle James E talmage said that Jesus was married to. David o McKay says that she was the person who came to Jesus and washed his feet and wiped them with her. Tears and her hair. The one with many sins . The one possessed with devils . Then we also have an apostle who said Jesus Christ had the burden of loneliness because he was not married . Our current presidency says we do not know .

In the end, it really doesn’t matter if she was a prostitute or not. We need to accept who she became, and accept the power of the atonement, and that it can, and will cleanse everyone, no matter how they sinned. Christ healed and forgave her, we need to love and accept her, even if she WAS a prostitute.

I think the theory of Mary being the wife of Christ is well founded but I CANNOT wrap my head around them having children. If they did those children would be literal descents of God, like Christ and have power over death, etc. Christ couldn’t have had fully mortal children because he was not fully mortal. Am I missing something?

Can I get some clarification? Mary M is a different Mary from sibling of Martha and Lazarus???

It seems that Jesus, the apostles and the sisters traveling with them, including Mary M. where gathered together at the house of Lazarus prior to their entry into Jerusalem and the oil used by Mary M. was oil they had brought with them.

Good question bc I’m confused also. In the book the gospel of the beloved companion. It says several times Miriam, the beloved companion. Also Martha, the sister of the companion served them.
32:4 …I tell you this: when all have abandoned me,only she shall stand beside me like a tower. …she shall be known as Magdalah, for she shall be as a tower to my flock.
It seems to me that Mary Martha’s sister was then called Mary Mandela. according to this book. So I’m confused is seems Mandy saying Mary Magdalene is different then Mary, Martha’s sister.

Mary Magdalene was a red head Celtic.. that is amazing news.
This reminds me of my studies into my mom's Scandinavian red headed roots from Denmark genealogy.
Danes took part in the founding of Ireland, England, America, Russia.. etc.
Can you guy's please let me know your thoughts on the rumors that Norse history is tied in with the Pleiades and the Bulls Eye of the constillation where the Vikings get the Horns from and is that the Polar star is all our LDS temples? This would make perfect sense to have Christ and his family leading our church

Joseph Smith makes it clear in John 11 in the footnotes that Mary of Bethany is Mary, the Magdalene. She is LaZarus sister and the one who anointed Jesus.

Here's a thought to consider, is it possible that Mary Magdalene refers to a type of woman and not one specific woman? In other words Mary Magdalene is an identifier of several of the women who surrounded Christ and whom he was fond of and whom followed him

I absolutely loved your podcast!! It was GREAT!! I do have one question though… I know that Mary was the only one who remained at the tomb … but wasn’t she accompanied by other women when she first went?

The different accounts portray differences among them. In these podcasts we generally avoid making dogmatic statements as to which account is “right,” and in our reading of them, we may at times reflect our preferences. But yes, in some portrayals of Mary being at the tomb she is in the presence of others. John renders the specific account Mandy is working with, if my memory is correct.

Good question! I don’t know. I (Mike) remember liking “Born in Blood” by John Robinson, but it’s been a few years since I read that one. I’ve read a few but don’t remember the titles to the others, I’ll have to check my office and see what’s on the shelves.

No wonder the disciples mistook Marys animated news from the tomb for grief stricken psychosis, since they will have known her to be the wife of Jesus.

Wow.. . Try as l might to discount this l can't help but feel there is much to what's been shared. My simple logic is if it be true the Savior has descended thru all things (and l believe he has), so he can relate to all things mankind will ever experience and be able to succour us, such experience must include marriage. My lament is why hàs not The Church not accentuate Mary Magdalene's position and elevate her at least from that of a prostitute? Having said this something also tells me such knowledge is sacred and to be protected at all cost until the 2nd Coming. My mind is a whirl right now!
Also l live in UK Nottinghamshire, close to the legendary Robin Hood county - walks thru Sherwood Forest will NEVER be the same.
Insightful podcast, not sure how far to take it but Thank You.
