- Nathan Camarena and Chon live at The Concourse in Knoxville, TN
June 12, 2014
Song title - "Puddle"
Nathan's current Meinl Cymbals set up is listed in the beginning of the video after the initial credits.
Regarding the sound you hear with this video - provided you are listening to the video through decent ear-buds or head phones or decent speakers connected to your computer, you should be able to hear a reasonable audio recording based off of the Zoom Q3HD which was one of three cameras used to record this. The other two cameras are the Go Pro Hero 3 Silver edition model. Their audio is nowhere near as good as the Zoom Q3HD, so that is why I went with it for the sound. (-Chris) Видеоклипы
that camarena talent is strong
I'm now considering the riff at 1:38 as divided into 2 parts. The "yes" part, and the "no" part. According to Mario's head movement.
that is
hilarious
Made my day dude hahahah
***** This is probably my favorite comment on RUclips xD what a hilarious observation!
***** absolutely. Chon really taps into some conversational melodies for sure, you can really hear it in "perfect pillow"
***** That. Was. Beautiful. Straight up killed me
For me this is probably the hardest Chon song because of the crazy tempo, blast beat fills, and all the overall right foot destruction. It's crazy he was just 18 at the time.
Never heard of this guy before, I'm impressed.
His snare is seriously off the chains sick.
+brandon ross I am dying to know what snare head that is
Adrien Blank it's either a Remo p77 or a coated cs reverse dot
It's crazy how much Nathan's style changed from this to the much more fluid style that he plays now.
Correct! He flows around the drums now. This kid is already one of the world's best. Would love to see him play with the heavy cats of jazz fusion.
if chon ever come back i would love to see them release a few straight up jazz/fusion tracks
This shit is going from like 5/8 to 4/4, 3/4 these guys are nuts
Daniel Tejada oh! thats why i cant see any ear monitors or metronome ._.
I always thought of it this way (in order): 5/4 - 4/4 - 9/8 (although Nathan plays it in 3/4, which i think feels a little awkward imo) - 4/4 - and then finally 5/8
Which part is that?
I love how many times his brother looks back at him like "dude...omg.." he also looks so proud lol
CHON is my favorite INSTRUMENTAL band out right now. Hell, they're one of my favorite bands altogether. Animals as Leaders is a close second as far as bands with no vocal focus. When it comes to the ability to create beautifully complex rhythmic themes and stories, you just can't compete with those two bands. It really says something when all you have to rely on is pure musical skill and creativity without leaning on a vocal performance and lyrical content (to which the music often takes a bit of a backseat in most bands) and still stay 100% compelling and joyous to listen to.
Every single member of CHON (as well as AAL) are absolutely masters of their respective instruments and they're all brilliant at actually writing music as well.
Kyle Stewart I would also include Scale the Summit along with CHON & AAL. They have some amazing material.
Polyphia ?
Samenger Polyphia is not good.
nature boi I guess there is such a thing as false opinions
The sha nova debut is sick too
At 3:03 mario's like "oh shit the cool drum outro is starting", then at 3:09 it's "time to watch my lil bro go ham".
I was always felt this song was made for the drummer, it goes so ham!
The part at 1:25 is amazing
These symbols are sick... I like how they attack very quick and don't linger around too long... Very sharp... When I do get a drum set ill definitely look into getting these...
3:08 for a beast drum fill
man hes playing in 20 different time signatures
Lol only 4
the intro for this song is so good, all around good band and drummer too
love how both guitar players turn to watch him at the end.
Best song of all time !
Love those blast beats! Camerana's the real deal.
that's okey but does he can play "do i wanna know"?
do you wanna know?
Saw Chon live with Animals As Leaders and Conquering Dystopia and they were all amazing!
Oh SHIT! I was at this specific show! I thought I recognized that stage
Incredible.
Very talented guy!
Damn I always love the ending!
The camerena fam loves Meinl drys
awesome!
Thats rad!
toca pra caralho!!!!
I'd kill to have that stamina while drumming... got damn!
wowo, very ancient video, i like it!!
2:28 - 2:30 Mario turns back: "Wtf mano this kick drum?!"
Fábio de Albuquerque >mano
I want to say a few things on what he can improve but then I remember how young he is and how old "I" am, and then I let it go. :D
+henry diaz Such as?
Being 17 means nothing to me. Seen drummers with 15 or less that impressed this much and seen drummers with 30 or more that suck at many levels. Nevertheless, congratulations for the excellent drumming, Nathan. Progressive and original, to say the least.
You do realize the age Nathan was when their first EP came out...
Sweet
what snare is that i wanna know. does anyone know what snare that is?
Where can I listen to this stuff?
Google "Chon bandcamp". Should show up.
Spotify!
dangggg :-)
I thought his last name is Macarena
I was fortunate to see these guys with AAL in Indiana. Awesome performers all around.
I take a lot of influence from your drumming to mine... keep "choning bro"
At 1:40 i alwaz automatically puts double pedal playing of drum like in metallica one
Nathan is a thicc boi now, but not any less impressive
Ништяк
why is the audience not moving?
which cymbal set ?
So basically a jam rock fall of troy?
Hes only 17:o
+Bobpop777 No , he's 19 turning 20 this December
+MeinKampfyChair 18 turning 19 actually
Emeirul Ashraf not according to facebook
+MeinKampfyChair you're stupid his comments are from a year ago or more
Daniel Tejada You're stupid, his comment was from June 20th, 2014, the age of Nathan Camarena is established to be 18 at that time, 19 by that December.
Strange cymbal choices. The small crashes don't feel enough space on those heavy parts... Kinda odd.
Nathan plays with two magic wands
holy shit, he's 17!??!?!?
Lol comment was a year ago
the crowd was so dry and dead it was ridiculous
Nicko McBrain's Padawan
Sounds great, painful to watch.
That crowd is dead or just incredibly amazed idk
Do Anybody Relize That The Field He Does 3:16 To 3:22 Came Directly From The Lord 🔥 🔥 🔥 🤦♂️
I know this is early in their career, but this crowd is dead asf.
he was 17 what the fuck
he has been playing drums since he was a kid though and most likely practiced every day too. i wish i had learned an instrument when I was a child. playing becomes ingrained more easily into one's habits, skills, instincts, and abilities, because of how quickly neural connections form during childhood. that's why most if not all children of musicians are skilled as fuck, because their parents forced them to learn an instrument as such a young age. actually that's what i'm gonna do too to my child lmao
In my opinion as a drummer I personally think that he lacks dynamics. I've seen some live videos of Chon where they play their songs 30-40 bpm faster because of Nathan. I don't know if it's the adrenaline when playing or the band purposely wants him to sound like that.
They prefer to play a little faster live, I read that in an interview with Mario somewhere online that I can't remember.
most bands play a bit faster live because of adrenaline
***** I know what dynamics are. It's the volume of a note or sound. What I'm trying to say is when he plays faster he tends to hit the notes harder. Thus, making it louder. And I just honestly don't like his drumming in some songs. It's too loud for me. But Nathan definitely improved in their new album Grow. He's more fluid now.
Carl Mendoza Hes a bit stiff when he plays but not bad at all, hes a killer drummer
Carl Mendoza he has a drum cam video of him playing Book. He has the ability to do it (since he's essentially covering what Matt Gartska performed for them), but it's often not the sound that they want I guess?
Okay, second tré cool
So wrong
bullshit. that's misha mansoor on drums
christ
That kick sounds aweful. Is it triggered? backline shitty metal band kit?
Wtf that kits sounds amazing, it's a tama kit
this is the boringst thing i´ve ever seen
+Raphael Karl Your grammar sucks, and Nathan Camarena can easily be considered one of the best drummers today.
stiff and awkward to watch. dry hi hats aint bad though.
I think the dudes like 17 years old, not that bad for his age.
John Crichton Ya think? :P
pete, i checked, he has none. chon drummer is not stiff, it's called proper form and posture. i just saw these dudes in tucson the other day, and there was nothing stiff about his performance. kid is a beast, just like his band. you must be a fan of the lars ulrich school of slouch and flail...
That blast beat he did was stiff as hell. What are you talking about?
James Van Metre Well first of all he's hitting the drums pretty fucking hard during it, harder than most blast beats. Secondly, the blast lasts like 1.5 seconds so who gives a shit. And thirdly, that part is improvised. It's not on the record version of the song.
