- Meinl Cymbals artist Nathan Camarena plays “Book” by his band CHON.
Nathan’s Meinl Cymbals setup from left to right, if sitting behind the kit, is as follows:
14” Byzance Traditional Medium Hihats
18” Byzance Traditional Medium Crash
21” Byzance Traditional Medium Ride
18” Byzance Vintage Crash - Видеоклипы
I love Matt’s version, but Nathan’s take on this song breathes a different life into the track.
Matt's version is 🔥🔥🔥 But if you're trying to learn the song, Nathan's version is easy to understand. I hope they have Nathan's version of "But"..
I actually admire Natan a lot, his drumming patterns are quite low-key dominating and epic. He has quite a unique style of flavour.
Effortlessly played whitin a sea of musicality and sensibility. Outstanding 👊
such a profound style. love Chon, especially this song
I love chon so much I’m glad you posted this
He truly is an incredible artist
Wonderful fluidity and musicality.
Meinl, you are the best!
best drum cover of this song so far :)
I've listened to the original so much that this kind of sounds off but it's a fantastic performance, for sure.
I think nathan purposely timed some of the patterns off, to add a different feel to the song.
The second verse? He did some wizardry displacement lol
This is fantastic! But I still think it's complete and utter injustice that there is no video online of Garskta playing Book or But! Like, come on Matt, do it plz!
I completely agree!!!!
My thoughts exactly.
Flawless like always
awesome! I love Nathan's version!
one of my favorites
have never hit a notification so damn fast
Right behind YOU!
Both versions are great, keep it up Nathan!
anyone else appreciate that 3/4 in the outro instead of the album's 6/8? it was super refreshing to hear that
What's the difference between 3/4 and 6/8 btw

Cool performance.
Clots to Matt Garstka for the original drum take on this song. It’s worth checking out
where’s the no signal video pls
while i prefer garstka’s take, this is really good too. i think garstka’s experience just translates into his take on the track. but nathan is already so incredibly good for his age, so 🤷🏻♂️
So damn good. Always a treat to watch
When I grow up I want to be Nathan
I grew up Nathan but not this talented haha
@@severenceblk lol!
Amazing!😁
Love Natan's take on this, but Matt is such a divine drummer.
Mah boi Nathan Macarena on tambourine!
YES
Very nice!
So cool
Is the vintage crash a medium or thin crash???
Nathan has changed a lot
Chon...!
Wow this guy’s not bad for a cover! ;)
Can anyone please explain to me the polyrhythm he’s doing at 0:20
hell yes
thats crazy i just released a video of me covering this yesterday
So fucking good
What happened to the cymbal at 0:40 ??
His independencies at 2:00 are ridiculous
creative producer
0:41 cymbal glitch. Haha!
Jiggy Ilagan was just about to comment on that!
Adam Ray beat you to it! Lol.
What do you mean?
Diego Castillo watch and listen. The audio and video don’t match.
Adam Ray well even the audio sound like an open hi hat and he hits the crash, I didn't knew it was called a glitch
🥰🥰🥰🥰
0:41 come onnnnn meinl
Does he have an instagram account?
Why take out the china and the china part that was one of my favorite things about this record
Kero kero bonito shrt hahaha nice
SUP!
Love the groove at 0:19 !
Incredible feel/concept
Can anyone break it down, please?
I think it’s basically the Purdie shuffle but instead of playing the ghost notes on the snare, you play them on the high hat.
👍
I’ll play a cover!
Why is everyone commenting about Matt Garstka? Does he has something to do with this song?
Daniel Huang
Yeah, he recorded the drums for this Chon song originally.
I'm just wondering what the fuck happened in 0:41...
You can kinda tell he didn't play the album version that's being used here. As good as he is most of the time, this just feels a bit clunky in more than a couple of places.
He didn't play this song on the album. Matt Garstka from AAL did that
ah, a kero boy...I like
0:41 ?????
Yooooo Kero Kero Bonito tshirt
Those ghost notes tho
no lie, this version is really fucking good but the way this plays means that the bassline needs to be updated to match.
I mean most of the song on the grow album have different basslines with the kick drum, that's just chon
Of COURSE he's wearing a KKB shirt.
0:41 INVISIBLE CRASH
Didn't know they listen to KKB.
0:41 what???
:-)
when all you know is fills...
jk this really inspires me. thank you!
So tasty
hes pretty good for an 11 year old
Yeah, I would like to "see" non-Byzance line...not everyone can afford it, especially when you play drums on a budget...so step up Meinl (or down)
Why don't you let the drummers use their own gear? Which they are more comfortable with. It's basically like saying that they shouldn't be using their own drums because they are to expensive and not everyone can afford them.
They have plenty of demos with the non byzance stuff. Also there’s ton of artist playthroughs that aren’t all byzance. I mean byzance is obviously the best and what most artists use but not all.
flamingo
Sorry to say but Matt Garstka's version doesn't seem to fit this song very well... I think Nathan should have played his version here.
Yeah so what the fuck happened around 42 seconds? Anyways.....
6th xd
This only shows why Matt is more tasteful
Matt was a more experienced drummer and had a different take on the direction of the song, nathan is still young and experimenting and this sounds more "CHON" to me, so i think i prefer this one
this version of the part overcomplicates things and doesn't sit very well with the guitars. the part on the album credited to Garstka is far preferable IMO.
I think it sits perfectly!
Agree
IMO, in order to play like Matt you must try out Nathan's version haha I like both versions by the way :)
to be fair, garstka is a far better player
of course! :)
Why does he overplay it so much?
Michael Ellis i don't think his overplaying. If what you meant is why is it different from the original cause it's a different drummer different style
Of course he’s an excellent drummer and he beats me out by a long shot and I get that he’s showcasing the symbols, I just think he exerts the energy needed for this piece, like when he plays perfect pillow or fall he lines up with the guitar and the bass beautifully, idk maybe as a drummer like when he does the shuffle beat in the second verse it’s just not how I would groove in that part per say, but again I like him as a musician and what “works” and what doesn’t can be a matter of opinion to some certain extent
Michael Ellis haha yeah i think it's just a matter of opinion, like i think the shuffle sits perfectly :)
Matt does this song a much better justice. Nathan needs to chill tf out and just learn to groove. Amazing drummer, technically, way better than I am, but he needs to learn how to play tastefully. The drums always take me right out of the mood the guitar sets.
that's what makes him different. i can enjoy what he played though
That's just chon's style of drumming, if you listen to other songs by chon the drums sounds similar to this.. if he played like matt it would sound like different band
The musicianship is incredible, but honestly, this kind of music is a fad. No one will be listening to this stuff in 10 years time. It's like super poppy, happy, cheesey guitar stuff from the 80's. It won't have a shelf life. Harsh critique, but just the way I feel. Not good song writing.
Sure
I was losing sleep at night wondering what Pablo Horteg though about this song. Thank god I found this
Guitar is too loud. Should be on the background. Studio is a bit dark. I almost cant barely see neither hear him playing.
Hate the music.
The music hates you
