      I honestly LOVE driving the manuals, I dont mind it even in congested cities. BUT this is definitely a very wise move by Hyundai. First its very cost effective. Secondly the head nod in AMT is mostly due to the gears shifting automatically and you would have to guess and work around modulating the throttle. Here you dictate the terms, so even if the head nod technically existed it would be minimized simply because you lift off throttle switch gears and then accelerate again, you dont have to wait for the GB to respond and finish changing gears. I see a lot of potential in this type of gearbox. The only question is how long does the actuator/sensors last as they are electronically controlled. you can still drive with a half burnt clutch but if the actuators give up, you would be stranded. Also I have one question, which sounds stupid to ask, but can you downshift from say 5th/6th to 3rd, basically skip gears when emergency braking? does the auto clutch intrude during emergency braking?

      Kudos are due to Hyundai who take the risk of least giving a range of options to its consumers.
      However whether iMT will be popular, time will tell.
      In my experience AMT WITH a manual mode is superior to iMT. Unlike going through the full motions of an iMT, shifting in AMT manual mode simply requires a simple tip with full control over the vehicle shift pattern.
      Even in full auto mode. AMT , if driven in a linear manner, releasing the accelerator timed with RPM/ and gear change ( one can anticipate that with experience) , head bobbing and jerks can be minimized.
      I think iMT is neither here nor there!
      I dislike the term' aggressive, enthusiastic ' driving given the terrible road discipline and traffic on our roads. Hope increased law reinforcement checks and fines will make people drive with better road sense and discipline.

    iMT is just amazing. You get the convenience of an automatic and the power band of a manual. Easy to drive in traffic.. This should be an option with every car in the market.

    I honestly think this is a revolution by hyundai. I never thought a company could do this. And this is so easy for people who want to learn how to drive. This might be the end for clutches. A 20,000 difference is totally justified since we won't have to worry about burning clutches and buying a new one.

    This is a wonderful alternative to manual transmission. Because India is a place where most of the people are conscious about mileage and here's is the answer to it. you don't have the pain of using the clutch and even your fuel economy is covered. Brilliant idea!

      Thanks man. One of the best reviews I have ever seen (and I spend almost all my free time on RUclips confused looking at car reviews).
      One thing to note is that as per Hyundai brochure at this time the SX variant doesn't get the HLA. So I guess in that variant (since it's at 9.99L it's taxed a lot less in some states) we have to use the brakes on an incline.

      Non sense!.. In AMT you can engage the car in full automatic mode n not worry about both cluth n gear lever!.. Can you do it in iMT!?.. Obviously No..
      The iMT is not an Automatic at all!.. you still have to shift the gear lever to make a move!..

      @@pravinmurthy everyone knows how an AMT functions my friend. My concern is because of premature clutch wear that some AMT units cause. There are quite a lot of Maruti and Tata in service centers for clutch pack and actuator replacements.
      Sometimes the service denies warranty after saying that it's a wear and tear part. But the issue is when your clutch wears out in 3000kms and you don't control the clutch directly this becomes an expensive and unnecessary burden.
      If iMTs don't cause premature clutch wear by slipping the clutch then I will prefer it over AMT.

      Brugs Random Videos hahaha true bro, can't imagine that. I drive auto & sometimes when I go to drive manual, I try to change gear w/o pressing the clutch & gearbox make a wierd noise (then I remind myself to press the clutch pedal as this is a manual).
      Don't know how much IMT will spoil our brains 😂

    These newer generation cars keeps innovating new technologies both in good and bad ways. Newer generation cars wants to completely remove clutch but i love me my good old school Manual Transmission with Clutch.

    Hyundai is smart to launch this in Venue. Not in Cresta / Verna, Not in Grand i10/i20
    Venue is the perfect option considering its radical style, target audience, not a lot of following like the other models like i20 or creata. If it's accepted in this they have an option to apply it on the higher and also the lower end cars in the product line.

    I think this transmission has best of both worlds. You have convenience of automatic as you no longer have to press the clutch , as well as thrill of manual transmission as you can run the car in the gear you desire.
    Probably more car manufacturers will follow suit. Definately better than AMT which seems to be a half baked solution.

    Thanks a lot evo India for this wonderful review of IMT gearbox. In my opinion this is one of the best review so far on RUclips.
    Apart for the features of this car I also learnt few new things that I didn't knew till now, e.g.-
    1. Petrol is called gas in India.
    2. The proper way to drive an automatic is to use your left leg for brake and right for accelerator.
    3. And the best one, the better word to use for RASH driving is 'enthusiastic' driving.

    One other advantage over AMT, you can directly go from 2nd to 4th or 3rd to 5th. You can't do that in an AMT and have to endure twice the headnod...

    Thank you EVO for the crystal clear explanation. Can you also make a video featuring different types of gearboxes in the car? Also if imt gearbox is same as manual transmission then why it is slower than DCT automatic. As per me, regular manual transmission is quicker than DCT. Thanks

      DCT, CVT & MT - huge differences in tech
      AMT & MT - not such a big diff
      MT & iMT - the same except for auto clutch

    Most comprehensive explanation so far regarding the iMT. But to be honest, it is unfair to talk about headnod of AMT in D-mode with an iMT because the iMT is basically the manual mode of an AMT! In manual mode an AMT has almost no headnod unless u r already bad at shifting with regular manual :)
    One major + of iMT for enthusiast = you can downshift from 4th to 2nd directly eg; for an overtake which is not possible with regular AT or even AMT manual mode which is sequential. This is very much felt on highways when u need to shift few gears down quickly for overtake
    Major + of AMT for non-enthusiast = It has an auto mode for those who can't drive a manual & don't mind the poor & way too early upshifts)
    Coming to the venue, this is easily a smarter buy than dct in terms of maintenance despite a gap in performance. It still gets a proper working hill assit!
    I own a regular Mt sedan, DTC suv and AMT hatch & i prefer aggressive driving. DTC is my choice for long drives. But for city, AMT in manual mode (never used it in D mode). Sedan will go to a museum :p

    hyundai truly is the most innovative vehicle manufacturer in india..brings a lot of options for customers..AMT, IMT, CVT, DCT, torque converter gearboxes and NA and turbo petrol engines to go with their diesel engines..Compare it to maruti suzuki who offers outdated 4-speed torque converter and a below par 1.5 NA petrol in their most premium offering S-Cross..

    Could pls tell how iMT reacts to panic braking!! In MT generally we pressure the clutch along with brakes, during a panic braking to avoid the jerks or engine turning off. How does it work in an iMT???

    Really great video guys! Very thoroughly explained in detail. Loved it. Imt is a boon for indian consumers who are stuck everyday in traffic jams. Hope to see this urging other consumers to adopt to such technologies as well.

    Advantages of IMT : Clutch & pressure plate life will be extend than a clutch sift manual car. Everytime clutch paddle press and somebody uses half paddle clutch to drive the car, it affects on the life of clutch & pressure plate.
    Due to non use of clutch paddle everytime fuel efficiency will be increase slightly.
    I think AMT sale will be less due to IMT.

    Excellent Review well explained, that good technology by Hyundai . Now my question if this technology costs around 30000/- more than manual transmission is there any chance of getting this IMT technology installed in any manual transmission CAR.

      Couple of years back there were quite a few people putting this in manual cars. All failed. Hyundai have cracked the fine-tuning of electronics to make this work

      @@sirishch yes even now AUTOMATE india in mumbai has created similar technology and installed in Jeep compass. I think this technology failed due the cable wire used to link the clutch pedal. Since we can shift from manual to Auto Transmission any time.
      But Hyundai has removed the pedal which I think has worked out.
