There will never be anyone as talented as these three guys. Neil was one of a kind when it came to song writing. These are songs that can bring out emotions you never knew you even had. He will be sorely missed forever. The professor indeed!
Clockwork Angels was a fitting end to their recording career. After beginning their first decade with a slew of concept albums, they turned toward shorter tunes that still showcased their musicianship but with tighter arrangements. And after doing so for 30 years, they finished with a concept album of shorter, well- arranged songs. The perfect match of classic and modern Rush. I feel Clockwork Angels is at least in the top 3 of any of their albums. Their experience as songwriters and experiences as men made this record the gem it is. They truly went out on top.
No one could do it so concisely as Rush. Close to the Edge is really built up well though, probably the best build up and release in anything humans have recorded.
The middle of this song is one of rush most amazing, it’s haunting, builds up and explodes back to the chorus so beautifully and the pulsating drums broken into the chorus with that amazing drum fill… seriously one of their most wonderfully crafted songs! You can tell they had an amazing day writing that song 😢
Alex’s guitar always leave you wanting more of it. He is a true band player who plays for the song and not just to show off. The songs usually end slowly when his lead truly begin leaving you thinking “ please just 1 more minute”
In the bridge part of the song, the drums are so powerful and the guitar is is like just drowning me in a dream! The bass runs thru my veins! lol it's so awesome what they do with their music
I love this song, as an interlude in the Clockwork Angels album. So sad we will never seem them live again. Glad we have so much video footage of their last tours.
I'm really missing these guys. I grew up on them. They were the soundtrack at all different times in my life since age 13. I can't believe Neil is gone. I also cannot believe that their last album was one of their best, imo. They nailed it. They took decades of sauce and evely distributed it on top of that bisquit. Shit is GOOD, b!
I have always been fascinated by the Rush sound. It is big, and orchestral in scope, but there are only three members and usually three instruments, plus voice. Fantastic.
probably one of the best songs off this album you can tell there is a different feel on this song and in pre production Alex/geddy switched instruments writing this tune but went back to principle instrument for recording. Great story and song
I was at this show & it was awesome!! I’ve never been to a “bad” Rush concert. These guys gave 150% the minute they hit the stage. From 1974 til their last show on Aug. 1, 2015 they gave it all to us, the fans & that is why our allegiance to Al, Ged & Neil will never waiver!!
Love the legendary and immortal Rush sound, Geddy’s soulful lyrics make it even more amazing, as do the obligato strings added to the orchestration. Mega Neato! And rocking guitar. Forever Rush!
It's only been recently that I have been able to watch these live videos. It just makes me so sad. But the music and skill is so brilliant in these three.
"MEMORY CAN BE TOO MUCH TO CARRY , STRIKING DOWN LIKE A BOLT FROM THE BLUE" : so true, Neil ... ! we'll all already miss you RUSH, but we'll keep on rocking ... . by the way, the CLOCKWORK ANGELS TOUR was great, just to make a huge understatement concerning RUSHs live-performances . [a kind of self-evident "thing" 'cause words are very rarely adequate to describe PURE ART ].
It was so awesome live too! Like the rainstorm came off the screen and filled the stage...Just epic! Seen Rush many times, C.A. tour was possibly the best one...
This is the only RUSH tour I missed in Dallas since 1986 Power Windows(before or after). Oldest son had his Swim Banquet that day where he was elected Captain. Had to be there, but I hope this doesn't sound bad it was a hard decision. (PS my oldest is named Neil)
Neil warned me about this ? :-) And you can't be truly into RUSH unless you felt like the musicians in the back ground putting all their heart into it :-)
I saw RUSH in Toronto during this tour. Awesome! I regret only seeing them once. With Neil Peart gone, I hope they pick up another percussion master and continue touring. RIP Neil Peart. We will never forget you.
I was supposed to see them with my daughter but my exwfe decided to cancel those plans by deciding she wanted a divorce which sunk me financially and thus I couldn’t go to their concert. Hard to believe Neil had cancer and Alex arthritis in his hands and they still went out show after show according to a Geddy Lee interview and gave it their best every night. True professionals dedicated to their art. At least through RUclips I can see some of the concert footage.

They really did, man. It's such a bittersweet victory for our RUSH. Such a champion album. It's got a little of everything. And it completely jams.
They must be new I've never heard of them
Clockwork Angels is a masterpiece and indeed one of there best albums in mine opinion.
@@rayminthecat sarcasim dig it!

No one can build a song up like Rush could. This is beautiful, surreal and then jarring. The string ensemble was the icing for this cake
Agreed

Two thumbs up (at Least!)Thanks!
For Absolute Certain !
Rush has always had the bravery to sing about depressing subjects and do them justice... absolutely fearless
YES!, reminds me of movie "The Shipping News" (But Better)

In my humble opinion, the best rock trio there will ever be

i think besides the solo, geddy wrote the guitar parts and alex played the bass

Climax. Theatre. Drama. Every sense touched. Unmatchable.
Agreed!
boy, I don't know how I never heard this song before... surely is one of their best ones... so powerful...
Same. Most of the CWA stuff turned me off, and I never got to this song. Wow.
Sweden Rock Festival 2013, Thank you guys, fantastic concert.
For a drummer to play at this speed and caliper,Neil is gods gift to a drum kit.
Fantastic- massive difference with the strings. Brilliant arrangement.
Wished they had been turned up a little more!
Helsinki, 2013. Thank you Rush, thank you Neal.
Neil 🙂
Thankyou Jesus...Rush is still rocking making new music. Endlessly Rocking
Sadly, in 2019 that's no longer true.
Amen bro
Reminds me of The apostle Paul shipwrecked off Malta.preach that
members of rush are not christians in case you were under that delusion.

The Harmonic vocals were sweet.
Good job Alex L.
Great song.
I agree. It's rare that I've heard Alex really get in there for a harmony, but here he is really doing it justice. Awesome!
I love so much this song! Is perfect
Brasil??
An incredible song, like so many of Rush's best, a little unheralded.
What a great band they were it's such a shame that people's ears won't hear this music live anymore
True, so true!
See Rush 5 times.... this song brings back everything.
Just amazing.
2 COOL!
I have to be honest. First time hearing this one. The string are a dynamic touch
The Clockwork Angels tour was amazing! I've made it to their concert at the Sleep County Amphitheater in Portland and it was epic!
