I fired my child custody lawyer and I have $1,542.50 left in my retainer balance they were horrible lawyers I paid over $6,700 with then now I'm waiting for my check to be sent out how long does it take to receive my check? They keep blaming the hold up on the courts it's been over two weeks and I feel like they are robbing me I signed my substitution of attorney and they still haven't sent out my check I live in California

I have a question? I hired a lawyer for a full legal name change. They want to charge me 2500$ for a retainer fee. I’m aware that the process takes a long time. But I’m not sure what they can charge me for regarding the process. I don’t want them to slowly eat away at my 2500$? Do you know of some of the things that they will charge for with such a small case. And can I track what is being taken from my payment daily?

Eventually Retainer fees will get so massive that a new law will be introduced (17 on 17). Mine was $50k for a civil case.
This is from a half ass sized American metro area (twin cities), to take a profession to court.
These numbers will climb to 80 then ~250, then it will be toast.
