Thank you, yes - it is such an important issue which isn't discussed enough really. I am certainly vegan for the animals, so no will power needed, it's easy for me now!
New subscriber here and I’m really enjoying and learning from you. I’ve tried several times over the years to be plant based, my hubby and I are once again changing to this. We’ve generally done fine until we have family here for a meal and make both SAD and plant based options and that is a problem. I’d love a video about digestion of legumes as that is a problem for me. Thanks, Linda
Thanks for subbing! I can hear from your comment that the plant-based diet is really calling you, even though it may be tricky to make the full transition (very normal). Keep going, and keep learning! I will make a digestion video, it's on the list! My latest video is out now: ruclips.net/video/DJGlT-wX7YU/видео.html 💚💪
Glad you like them! 4 years, about the same as me! I was vegetarian before that! My latest video is out now: ruclips.net/video/DJGlT-wX7YU/видео.html 😄
Such a great video, thank you so much for the explanations 🥰 I've been wondering about beets and green beans every time I eat them! Was surprised to see swede on the starchy
I was Vegan for about six years and really unhealthy, instead of blaming Veganism for it I looked at all the crap I was putting into my body and realised that being a Wholefood Vegan is the way to go. I never stopped being Vegan, I just changed what I was eating. I also really care about the animals, it was my first reason for going Vegan, but I ended up wanting to take care of my own health too.
We tried the vegan diet and I gained weight. My histamines got a little out of balance too. I found that it was a very high carb diet. Even the fake cheese is made from potato. Also, I am a survivor and need to stay away from soy. My husband, who is battling prostrate cancer, can have soy. It was a conundrum.
What are your favorite starchy and non-starchy veggies? Mine are Yukon gold potatoes and bok choy. Both are extremely versatile and bok choy is a great choice for calcium. But I love all veggies except rutabaga. I just can't get past it's taste.
@@WholeheartedVegan I had to look it up. Well I'll be! It's a brassica, a hybrid between cabbage and turnip. As Srgt Schultz would say, " verrrrrry interesting!"
I've found a way I like it. I cook it it soften it, then chop it in little pieces for my veg soup and freeze the rest in portions. I do the same with brussels for the soup, but I'll eat them anyway they come! 😋 2 rutabagas will keep me for a whole winter.
You're right! I just checked on the McDougall website and he has it listed in both places! That's not helpful, I'm sorry. Having never eaten it, I can't give my opinion either. I think I will email Dr Mcdougall and ask him!
hmmm, yes you're right. I looked into it, I would class it as non-starchy, but with a higher caloric density than the leafy greens, and cruciferous vegetables. I have never tried that one myself! Do you enjoy it regularly?
@@WholeheartedVegan I tend to have mashed carrot and swede (rutabaga) if I fancy a roast dinner sometimes, and I've been thinking I'd like to freeze some ready-made (by me) as food prep (always looking for ways to make life easier for me tomorrow!). I like it with shepherd's pie (meatless, obvs) too. But it's not a massive part of my diet. I would have thought it quite similar to carrots, if it was up to me, but I'm not a trained nutritionist or anything - just a very big fan of food! ;-) Nice videos, Natalie. I'm enjoying them while I'm learning. I've only been vegan about a year at this point. Never knew food could actually be BETTER this way, even without all the good reasons for the planet, the animals and etc. I mean, it actually tastes better, doesn't it? I'm going to go for this way of eating strictly for a trial period. I've noticed Dr McDougall says you could start to feel better inside within 10 days, which is exciting, although I'm trying not to get my hopes up because I was never one of the vegans who eats a lot of meat substitutes, so maybe the difference won't be so much for me. Oh, look - I've written an essay! Sorry about that, LOL!
@@AmandaJYoungs amazing Amanda, I agree - food is better this way, I am so happy I have found this way to live. I think you will adapt to the starch solution so easily, and will love it - I personally think any improvement in diet is 'felt' quite quickly. Let me know how you get on!
Can I ask if you can do meal ideas/way of eating for teens. like post pubescent young ladies 16+, I know we have higher iron needs etc, but like good ideas to have a complete vegan diet and still be starch solution for health?
I will have a look into this Monica, I know that lots of leafy greens is VERY important, and adding citrus really helps with the absorption of the Iron. :)

Thank you for defending a better planet 🌎 and helping animals against cruelty ❤😢
I'm so glad you talked about the animals as well!🥰 Thanks for the video Natalie! 💕
I am vegan for the animals like you Laura, it's an important topic for me - I would like to talk about it more to be honest! 😊🌎💚
So good to hear about the importance of getting rid of animal agriculture, factory farm etc.

That's awesome ~ and when animals are you main reason 'quitting' is never an option. Way to go!
amazing channel growth recently, keep it up!

Is Rutabaga the same as British Swede? If it is, I love it! It's just a pain to chop up!
Bok Choy, oh yes, delicious! 💚
@@WholeheartedVegan I don't know but I don't think so. It's in the turnip family.

I notice that rutabaga features on both the "Starchy" and "Non-Starchy" lists - which "side of the plate" should it go, please?
