this is happening because of adaptive refresh rate
I don’t think the inconsistent frame rate is related to heat. I think the game itself is just very cpu gpu demanding that it can’t maintain 120fps at certain places in the game. Maybe you should test again while the character is indoors.
iphone isnt the best gaming phone.......
If it could also charge I might give it a try.
Would it work on consoles?
I don't think the point of those coolers is to give a great boost in FPS. It's more about keeping temps lower in order to provide longer gaming sessions without throttling and by extension, increasing the phone's life expectancy.
THIS. And it's super irritating how the dude's testing on the fly for the sake of a quick video, and not something planned ahead of time and given more time, so you're only going to get even MORE "disappointing" results!
You don’t get it, less heat = less thermal throttling, thus the device will maintain a stable fps in any game ofc that depends on the device specs but that’s a different story
@@saywhat6585 ... Friend, it's one thing to BOOST/AUGMENT fps (not the purpose of these coolers), and another to MAINTAIN fps at a stable count by controlling hardware temps. (Purpose of the coolers). To say they don't work when it clearly did the job it was intended (lower temps, stable and marginally better fps count, no throttling or screen dimming), is to be either dishonest or ignorant. Anyway, tell me more about how I "don't get" the concept of hardware thermals and the effectiveness of peltier cooling systems at small scale... Do tell.
@@thebarbiter4644 i dont know but since using cooler im getting consistent FPS cuz heating affects the performance of the phone
@@Milo0610I bought one recently n it’s coming in three days does it work really well?
I wish Razor would have an extension of heat pipes or something near the chipset. So the attachment by MagSafe is still convenient and it has the ability to cool the chip better
Maybe if they made a case for it
Yes like the wings on the redmagic dual core cooler so the coolness could be distributed properly
Might block your hand, so needs to be designed carefully
need the case for it, i think one that made with alu
That's called, pelter module
There's definitely a software optimization issue going on. Pascal's Wager also exhibited the same weird 120-60fps fluctuation behavior. That's not due to thermal throttling, it's an issue that has to do with the game and how it interacts with ProMotion.
Are you sure ? Since 120 fps on games gonna heat a lot the phone and drain a lot of battery 🤔
@@ColonelLucario thermal throttling causes fps to drop slowly as it gets hotter and hotter until it gets as hot as it will and level out. This is software because it drops from 120 to 60 and there is no in between.
same in pubg mobile playing 90 fps
@@robbyfn in mobile games frame rate is set to 120, 60 and 30 thats why when it can keep up at 120fps frame rate drop 1- 3 and then the game itself set to 60 instead of 90/100
In my ip13 pro when i play call of duty mobile iwth ultra feame rate(120fps option) sometimes its 120 but it goes down to 60
Just the prevention of display dimming alone is worth the price in my opinion.
The reason why it drops down to 60fps most of the time is the moment genshin load in new area and when you're moving around.
120fps is only when you're not in combat and also in a loaded area. The game is suppose to run at 60fps to begin with, so stable 120 will only burn the phone.
This is not exclusive to gens him impact it’s part of apple pro motion. It actives when you move the screen (which is when it counts) and lowers when your stationary
V-sync
the creator intentionally didn't test when the battle animation intense, because it will flat to 60 fps and that not good for the sponsored product
Would it be possible for you to test it again with the universal clamp option? With that, you'd be able to move the cooler up the phone to where the CPU is, and it could have a massive difference since in this initial test, the magsafe option was completely off of the CPU area.
ruclips.net/user/wesutd answer this question on his video
Yes
Exactly
yes I am waiting for this.. Hopefully he make another video where cpu area.
unfortunately i dont think you can, since the chip is right next to the cameras, which would block the clamps :(
There isn’t much of an improvement because obviously the cooler isn’t intact to the chip but instead to the battery
I agree. For gaming the most important is how fast you can take heat directly from CPU. Cooling back of the phone wont really help because there are thermal limitations between CPU and heatspreader. It's like drinking water with a narrow straw. It doesn't matter how fast you swallow if water can't go through straw faster
Possibly better battery life?
Exactly
@@SpeedyMike Actually if it gets too cold it can damage the battery
@@kakashi99908 - Yeah but i think it's not that cold.
I know they made a phone case but razer could make a case with a built in vapour chamber with a small fan at the back to draw the heat away from the phone
Our phone overheats when shooting video in the hot Florida sun. Would this work for that? Will it work plugged into a battery backup?
Would be useful on a car windscreen holder. I’ve had my phone overheat and shut off in sunny conditions.
or you could get the ones that attach to the air vents and blast ur ac on while driving and ur phone definitely won't heat up while driving
The issue is just the placement that is not even near the chip, if it can be directly on top of it then it will be much more effective
yep. really a bummer
You should test the MagSafe charger slapped on the cooler! That way! We’ll know if the MagSafe charger can actually charge at 15W for longer
What about GPU usage? Was it maxing out on the GPU constantly or was there headroom? With the 5 GPU cores, it should be about 45-50% faster than the A12Z chip but there’s still plenty of demanding mobile games when trying to hit 120 fps.
It is slower than the A12Z's GPU. But not by much.
Nah, A12Z features a 8 core gpu.
I mean.. regardless of the performance boost, it definitely would help in terms of health. Dare I say it's going to be better for the battery too. Since heat is the main culprit of horrible battery health and charging in general.
Edit: Should have made it clear to let the phone cool down before using the cooler and start another recording to simulate using the cooler from the start instead of after heating the whole device
I think this also has a benefit on the battery, as far as I know phone batteries degrade faster when under high temperatures
True which is why I want this and use it while charging or sitting in the sun watching youtube
They should design one that cools the whole back side and not just the MagSafe area, that would be “cool” no pun intended!
Some diy might help
They need to increase the contact surface out of the MagSafe area and then it would be perfect
Even if it doesnt cool the cpu as much a cooler battery will prolong its life and should allow for longer use per charge.
The issue with this cooler is that it's been placed at the back of the battery not where the CPU is. It does help with the battery heating problem especially when playing games while charging. However, not going to help much with CPU heat.
That's correct
Precisely! That's what I'm gonna say bro
My only concern is the battery going bad due to long term overheating.
@@ronweasley9001 If you don't often playing intensive games on you phone while charging, this shouldn't be an issue.
@@haixinzheng9759 I don't play video games on my phone while it's charging. But I'm using the phone cooler while gaming to ensure the temps don't reach above 36'.
Awesome video! So happy you guys are using the real time fps meter now!
I think for best comparison you should use 2 different iPhone,1 without the cooler and 1 with,to see what it does and so from the beggining and not after the phone already got hot, wonder if it would be a different since the phone getting cooled from the beggining
I was thinking the same thing. The fan started at a disadvantage since it was placed on an already hot phone
I'd rather use a clip on cooler to position it nearer to the warmest zone. Also, there are better Peltier type coolers out there in the market which cools better than Razer.
Could the level of detail in the game screen be the reason that the fps drops? Can we set the refresh rate to stay at 120 ?
dude, i love your channel .lml can you do something similar to the ipad? i have heat problems using Nomad Sculpt
Did you let the phone cool between tests or did you just chuck the cooler on the iPhone when it was already hot?
Hi, which thermal camera did you used? Thank you
the fps fluctuation is due to the vsync i think, there's a type of vsync that when the fps drops below the fixed refresh rate it cuts the fps to the half, i know cuz it happened a lot of time with my PC and i informed, or it's just the pro motion that doesn't work properly
Hi, could you cover the screen recording audio bug on Samsung devices? If you're not aware on what it is, it's a bug where audio sound richer and fuller while screen recording in games and the video editor. And when you're not recording, audio sounds tinny and lacks low end frequencies. This seems to happen in non-media based apps. Every other tech channel I've contacted have either refused to cover this issue or simply ignored it.
Yeah right
What thermal camera are you using!? Thanks!
Great video, Dude. It would be interesting if you try another option such as K4 mobile radiator.
Great videos as always! Though I'm not sure if you are letting the phone cool after the first run to have a fair test when using it with the cooler. The MagSafe cooler is a great idea though the circular design isn't suited for proper cooling since it's not directly or touching the area of the iPhones chip. They could of made a triangular shape or even custom per device shape and would be worth it if temps were better.
yes he has to wait the phone to cool down and then start the test with the cooler and i think the phone will not even be hot
They do sell an adjustable non mag safe option. Hopefully that would help
you are right man
if you had magsafe on an all aluminium or stainless steel case, would it be possible to use the case as a big heatsink with the razer cooler?
The maverick of wall street I see
Does this phone have variable refresh rate? If not its switching btw 60 and 120fps due to Vsync.
Makes sense
You had to let the phone sit for a while before starting again with the cooler.
I did :) it just got cut out of the video.
The frames per second (FPS) can be affected by your location in the game. If you want to check the consistency, you should run the same test at the same location where you ran the first test.
What are you yapping about 💀
@@rocky-zx6kq How about watching the video? It will provide clarity on the topic at hand. Engaging in baseless arguments is unproductive.
@@ethanartofcook8433 I type this when I was late night partying and drunk af lmao, from what I remember I thought you said fps is affected in your IRL location, not in game location 💀
The design of the cooler should be like just clipping from magsafe for power andthe having the fan and a thermoelectric cooler directly at the spot where A15 is.
But im lazy to open my Rhinoshield case.
Is it ok to use this accessory with case?
is it safe for the internals of the phone? is it going to cause condensation inside the phone?
hey Max when the new iPad with an X safe will arrive can you make a video on this cooler with a MAG safe on the iPad wonder if the new iPad could be more render faster videos if I've been using this cooler on it I know it's a weird request but put it in your list a cooler magsafe for the iPad Pro 2nd Row videos act or something like it
I hope they make a smartphone cooler that will hit the CPU itself to be effective in gaming
Hey, why did you stop the recording at different times ?
I would have liked to see a longer test for both
can you test if this helps with charging?
Bro, you should have let the phone cool down and stay closed after that 10 minute gaming sesion, for atleast 10 minutes for real results, of course the results with the cooler were not that impresive, because the phone wwas already tired and hot after the first gaming sesion
makes me wonder if I can use this razer cooling device on my gaming laptop, put it on top of the casing were under it is the gpu and cpu, it always hot on that surface, but does the magnet may effect the hardwares inside my laptop like the gpu/cpu chip???
There is this thing called iphone cooler plate on the market right now to evenly spread the cooling from a magsafe cooler.
It's basically just a metal piece that you stick to the back of your phone.
This seems to be more of a bug or something like that even on console or PC gaming this kind of FPS behaviors mainly comes by issues with either the game or the OS
The problem is that iPhone has an adaptive bitrate screen.
So depending on various factor it throttles the fps.
It doesn’t have a “120hz/fps forced mode” for everything like some Android’s have.
So most game will go up to 90 but not over that. You noticed that when you stopped moving to pause the recording in Pascal’s Wager. It immediately went up to 120 whereas when you were playing and moving it would vary.
The question is, does it fit the mini? Mini may not have 120fps but it's prone to overheating in pubg new state at least
So the fact is that if you start the test without the cooler when the phone is fresh of course it does good the first minutes, but if you put the cooler on when the phone is literally super hot you can't expect that much difference. You should try wait for the phone to cool down and then do the test again.
2:35 bent cable ending shows a lot about his gaming habits
These are useful for flying drone in high heat and sun. Causes display dimming and also app errors
Actually these things are like 15 bucks. I wouldn’t pay 60
The fan attachment probably helps but you should get some monitoring software on the phone you're using for the test, scanning the surface with a thermal camera is not the most accurate way to do it
just wanna ask, can the thermoelectric cooler run with just a lipo battery? 3.7v 1000mAh?
and of course without the bs RGB and software support. just all electronics., like single small led for battery indicator., and 3way fan speed switch(heck even a potentiometer might be good as long as you set the resistance limit right.)
or if the voltage/current is too low, a quad 500mAh battery lipo in parallel-series setup.,
so you can get around 7.2V
The phone uses 120 only when necessary, it auto fluctuates to use the optimal number for performance and/or battery
I’ve been having the same issue on my 2020 iPad Pro 11 inch. In terms of fps in games like Critical ops (small chance you’ve heard of that game.) and call of duty. Only I’m averaging 80 fps instead of 120 which is annoying and not sure what to do. If I can do anything about it honestly.
We should have a magsafe coolfan directly to the SoC instead of the battery, not that hard tbh, i would buy it 10/10 times
It is that hard. Nobody is cutting their phone open with a Dremel for direct die contact. Learning what "directly to the soc" means isn't that hard tbh.
I meant a cooler closer to the soc, not internally ahahaha, just above but higher close to the right of the camera@@kidman2505
@@kidman2505 You can't have die contact on an iPhone, their chips is stuck between both layers of PCB lol and even the SE, which have a single layer PCB, the chip is facing the screen.
Dumb thermal designs
Looking for a non-battery-cooker case, any real concern or tests?
Either way the iPhone runs these games better than my S21 Ultra and Pixel 6
Can you do a video like this with Razers iPhone 13 Pro gaming case? I want to see if what they said for the case is true.
Maybe you would’ve had a more accurate test if you allowed the phone to completely cool down before testing it with the cooler
Impressive results as the highest graphics demanding game being played at max possible graphics.
Try blackshark Cooler , its not mag safe but its snow cold.
11.31 you should jeep the cooler right in the soc for peak performance
I can't imagine why you wouldn't be curious what would happen if you put it right on the CPU hot spot....
Did you let the iPhone cool off before you started to play again with the cooler?
One of the purest gaming test ! ❤️🔥
What's better funcooler 2 pro or nubia turbo cooler?
I need for realme 9 5g
I would rather a cooler than went directly over the CPU than one that had magsafe
I think people are looking at this product wrong. The most important thing its cooling is your battery. The more a batter heats up. the less it start to store electrons(lowering the total capacity its able to hold) Personally I'd get this just to protect my battery and prolong the costly replacement.
Thinking about purchasing this cooler for my Steam Deck. Found some metal rings with double sided tape I was going to mount this over the air intake vent so the air being pulled into the steam deck is cooled. My only question is will this make condensation?
It's just a fan. No condensation.
is condensation water not showing up inside phone?
Will this work with the new iPhone 14 being Titanium?
Best cooling would be a heat conducting case and the cooler. The upper left corner the frame is what gets the hottest.
yes true the mag safe area cold but doesnt reach to cpu its should be like a case that conduct the coldness to the cpu
they have one of these products
How is he so surprised that it’s 7 degrees colder
@@zahidl5061 7 degrees colder for phone is fucking magic thing that every phone brand want to do and this phone cooler can do it
That abouth the temp diffrents can destroy the iphone insides?
Planing to buy.. is it safe in the long run?
how can i check the temperature like you with another phone ?
Does it cause moisture to the internal phone parts?
If so, does the back cover prevent this if used?
I use Google Translate 🙂💔
They should have made a phone case for high end phones with heatpipes stretching to both sides, it seems like a good product but damn needs more cooling
Heatpipes are effective when they've a very close or direct contact. Too many layers of separation kills the performance of heatpipes.
Phone cooler is effective for players who play long hours.
If you play game for 10 minutes or an hour, you don't need it at all.
So, the test is only valid if you tested for more than one hour.
One hour is still too low though.
More than 2 hours test is better imo.
Also, most 120 fps games has problems so testing on 60 fps games is better for now.
In my experience, I don't feel lag when I play with cooler. Of course, your phone must be able to handle the graphic first. If not, even phone cooler can't help.
Can i use this device for my GPD WIN 2 or android handhelds like GPD XD? Looks interesting
Wow you have such a nice timestamps in the description!
Can you make them for me?
Black shark magsafe cooler will the same result?
Thanks!
It is unavailable in whole eu are they not producing it anymore?
Have you tried memo or bluewow
hopefully the razer will make a case for iphone 13 pro and pro max with a built in cooler
Dose it works with magsafe case?
What about the power supply?? Wich one is the recomended?? The same iPhone charger ??
You should put the razor cooler near the cpu. I did it in my phone and it works a bit more than that
could you test in iphone 15 pro?
It also, should be a wireless charger and have strong magnets...
If just the iPhone support reverse wireless charging to run the fan that would be cool
I want one that can be cordless. That’ll look cool.
I'm thinking of getting one since I do DoorDash and Uber and I always have the screen and GPS running and my device gets pretty hot.
They need to update how the apps interact with promotion . Maybe it’s a coding issue
now if there's any cooler that can spread or directly cool on the hot spot that still uses mag safe.
would be cool if they were somehow able to be powered through the wireless charging interface in the future!
Peltier cooling likes to drink power. And for more cooking the only option is wattage. Improvements would only bring in more power usage.
Can I use it with iPad Pro?
