In this weeks video I go out and see if i can get a contact with just 2.5w. Next month ill try it with the arrow 2 antenna and see if we can make a contact
Have the exact same radio, just purchased one at a bargain price. Works great from home but I'm interested in taking it out portable too, can you advise regarding the drone battery you use? Cheers MM7STT 73
The battery I use it a turnagy 3s lipo your get them from places like hobby king . When you make up your power lead remember it’s centre neg. (mine is)
Just seen, these are going on ebay for £165 . Consider their age and price of cheap chinese radios, i guess it tells you something about the quality of them and how much people are willing to pay. Tempted, but IC-705 says no.
I started with one of these in 1986 as G1SVC. 2m ssb was so busy then. I used the full 2.5w and an HB9CV antenna and worked as far as DL and OK in Europe as well as GM and GI on "lifts" and the odd aurora contact. As EI3VTF, I used it mobile and worked back into IO91 from hilltops. Superb radio. Pete, ZL4TE
Nice that you're promoting this radio again. I have this, too (I'll get my license very soon). So I'm interested in what's this radio is able to anytime. And I'm vy interested in the arrow antenna video, too. Thx dr op. 73
Nice one, got one also Jez, last time I used a flowerpot antenna on a pole attached to the back of the car best was 58 miles on fm. They are a great little radio
Fantastic little radio, I had one years ago and used to drag it on top of the hills with a seven element beam and had some great QRP results. It’s one of those radios I wish I had kept hold of.

Cracking radio of its time, had one new in '85 when first licensed. Did a barefoot copy from Surrey to Derbyshire with a 5 ele beam in my bedroom!
