    Great video. I recently bought a Diamond SRH-770S flexi whip from waters and stanton. It comes in two sections for easy storage and transport. The 2m performance is almost 90% like the telescopic antennas.

      Thanks! I did two videos on similar subjects because I was getting lots of questions about 2 m portable antennas. I still use the slim G on a mast most of the time because it east it allows me to shelter out of the wind.
      I have a friend who gets great results with the srh-770s. There are so many different options! Sometimes height and band conditions are worth as much. I once had a summit to summit from Ben Macdui to Helvellyn just using the Nagoya whip!

    Try using the G pole with a 4 metre decathlon fishing pole and use velcro ties so it is straight, fixed to the pole and doesn't hang and flap about in the wind. Also, I'm not sure if the unintentional loop on the g pole would affect performance.

    • @theradiorover
      @theradiorover  Год назад

      Interesting thought Paul. The loop in the coax can be discounted, due to it being below the matching unit.
      I often use my Slim-G antenna with my carbon mast. Thus is because many of my expeditions are up the higher mountains or multi-day. I carry the sotabeams carbon6 mast because it's nice and light and works well with my lightweight HF antenna, a 41' wire. Arranged at an angle, it also works well with the slim-G 2 m antenna.
      I do have a 4 m fibreglass pole and have used this with the slim G. Next time I do a VHF only trip, I'll do back to back tests with it hanging free and also strapped to the mast.
      2 m antenna placement can be fickle, I know. If you check out the video I just released, you'll see I got a better signal report from the handheld than from the 50 w radio in the Land Rover. After we'd finished filming, I turned the Land Rover through 180° and the signal report went up 2 points!
      Thanks for your valued feedback.

    Not a surprise for me. Sylvia OE5YYN and myself had a direct comparison between a 2m Slim-J and a RH-770 recently during our activation of Wildspitze at 3768 m A.S.L. So with that height the ground and other effects are not so strong. We had 100% identical reports. A halfwave vs. a halfwave. 73 Joe

      @@theradiorover Wow that's pretty good as the slim G is good as is. I compared my 2m flower pot next to the slim G and the slim G was slightly better on receive and send according to the S meter, but the audio sounded louder on the flower pot and I guess what the ear hears is what matters. I'm impressed enough to look at getting a RH-770 now though.
