That’s some activation on some amount of bands! 👏.. Must get a 9:1 for the kit like yours also.. Still getting to grips with the X6100 and have never actually tried the tuner on it yet.
A whole new world awaits with that tuner Dave! A 9:1 is a pretty easy winding to make. Lots of videos on it. Give me a shout if you want me to send the one I used. Cheers Fraser MM0EFI
Good job Fraser. I been experimenting with that combo of wire too, OCF style and a short parallel feed line of 2 x rg174 coax twin lead. Only use centre wires of coax and clip it on at feed point down to ZM-2 ATU.
Good video and nice WX on the ascent and it’s a shame it started to turn sour towards the end of your activation. Interesting antenna setup that clearly served you well. Speak soon. 73 Chris M0RSF
Interesting session, Fraser, I can never seem to break away from the EFHW - I'll have to give a long wire and 9:1 a go sometime, no reason why its shouldn't work well with the ATU in my X6100.
Great work Fraser. I might go down the 9:1 random route myself. I like my efhw but 20m of wire is a lot to mess about with if people are around. Good activation 50 QSO's 👏🏽👏🏽
Hi Fraser. Had this going around my small mind for the last so many days. So a couple of things. Why 12.5m? The list I have if lengths are 10.97m and 13.41m. Did you have to trim it to change the SWR? In the orange tube is there a 9:1 and 1:1 ballun in there? Which would be more efficient efhw cut for 40m or a your 9:1? Sorry for all the questions 😊 If you was to do a SOTA in the morning and a efhw and the 9:1 was on your kitchen table which would you drop into you bag?😊
I would usually use my Sotabeams 6m Carbon 6 pole for this kind of thing. It is very lightweight and packs down small enough to fit inside a 15l backpack. I have a 7m Spiderbeams pole which is pretty strong, but weighs three times as much and is twice as long when stowed. However, it would still be standing in a hurricane! Cheers, Fraser MM0EFI
Thanks for sharing. Bands down here are terrible, only eu on 40 30 and 20m but no dx. Higher bands especially 10m, have been silent for a record 12 years down here. 73 mate.
@thomashardy9994 the kx2 tuner is an optional accessory. It is tiny, fits inside the radio and is absolutely superb. Rumours of it tuning wet string probably aren't over-exagerated!!
@@theradiorover Have you considered doing a video on how you log and how you upload to the SOTA database. Mos o the videos on YT are dated and may not be accurate. I do POTA all the time and its easy to upload an ADI file to activate a park; but a bit confusing for SOTA (to me)

Good Morning David!
Thanks for your comments. It shows just what can be achieved with a simple wire.
All the Best, Fraser MM0EFI
Another top watch! Loved to see a full Voice/SSB spectrum 40-10m ! Just makes me want to get out (again). Thanks !
Thanks Mate. I think it's your fault I made that video 😀
Love hearing sounds of a KX2 ATU working
It is a unique and very satisfying sound. Does the job 99/100 times too. 😊

Worth a try. I haven't done and modelling, but it could have better lobes on 10m than an EFHW, which is two full wavelengths on that band!
A 1:9 transformer is also on my to do list. Thanks a lot for the video Fraser!
Cheers Stephan. I'm sure you'll make one in 10 minutes. A much easier wind than the 49:1

Good one Fraser, enjoyed the simple all band set up and the trot up the bands
It was good fun! Shows how good the bands are. A few years ago I was struggling to get 4 HF contacts from a summit.

Cheers Motters. Yes, handy for a small space or a speedy set up. With the bands the way they are, I don't see me carrying much else this summer.
@@theradiorover lucky you have been out. I've not done a SOTA for probably a year due to leg issues. Plenty of painkillers. 😂
@@m7trsradio well I hope you are on the mend and will be back on your feet again soon.
I've run this setup a lot and it's a good one. I always need a tuner but the X6100 handles it fine. Cheers.
It is a good compromise between efficiency, weight and ease of set up Jeff. I was surprised that it went up in 4 mins.

Excellent acheivement and would you use a 10 Mt pole rather than your 7 Mt to support the aerial ?, Pros and cons ?.

Thank you! Lots of useful videos for you on my channel. 😊
A very informative and well put together video. Thanks Fraser, I enjoy your channel and have picked up some great ideas. 73 G0ACE

Good Job and thank you for the Video. I have a Question: what for a Pole is this?
The pole is a Carbon 6 from SotaBeams. It weighs 315g. You can find it on the sotabeams website.
Glad you liked the video. Thanks for watching.
