This was my first proper rig. My first setup was a three channel Pye Cambridge ex taxi rig. I loved the FT290R, and had great memories watching you un box it!
@@2j4ez Thanks for the reply. I did a lot of portable operation with that rig in Crawley (callsign G6COQ) in 1982. So you can imagine the locals finding it very bizarre to have some kid walking around talking to someone on a radio!
tomorrow is 2m night ill go out and about and see if I can make contact with anyone. so far the audio Ive herd from it is really good im well pleased with it

@@2j4ez I cant remember if its under the top or bottom cover now Jez. Im sure there is loads of info on the net for that board. But even if it doesnt have 1 those cheap Chinese pre amps are probs better now any way.
it does 2m all mode. it will receive sstv from the iss no problems . its running 2.5w on the stock antenna just worked Kent and Leicestershire on 2.5w stock antenna 2m SSB

I have this radio, I dont know anything, Its going into a tractor on a huge camp sight, so you can call in with a normal handheld walkitalki, and the cool guy will bring toiletpaper or a tent or wood or sharpening stone an axe or salt and pepper. My question the antenna plug what is its name, plenty room for an antennea on a tractor roof. yes you got it NO cell phone cover at all, Its like the darkside of the moon

Your be surprised how far you can get on 2w ssb when I got it I thought it was going to be a paper weight but I was wrong it’s a great rig

not sure how would I check? all ive got is the radio and mic haven't even taken it out of the leather case as yet

Yes very useable on the stock antenna and power I’ve managed to clear 101 miles on 2.5w and with a arrow antenna managed to clear 166miles no problems
