I live in Stockport and go past the former Strawberry Studios quite a lot. It’s mind blowing what was done there in the 70s at a time when not much happened outside London. It’s also a strangely fated part of town. In the 60s, a passenger plane crashed about 100 yards away. There was also a venue right across the road where the likes of Pink Floyd and Hendrix played, before it burnt down. In fact, you can see what was left of it in one of the Joy Division publicity shots of them all standing behind a railing.
Have to agree with radioheads quote, every morning walking to school i had jd on my walkman/headphones......for mentally healthy people, the sound of jd is depressing, for depressed young adults it is quite uplifting.like a kafka-esque contradiction. i turned into anarcho punk hardcore shortly later in the mid-eighties but JD always stayed my #1 soundtrack-of-my-life band 'til this day.i am forever greatful to have discovered this band,i am forever in debt to john peel for introducing me to this band although i come from rob grettons part of of the city (wythenshawe, manchester) but due to me dads constant restationing (he was a squaddie, married a german gal) we stayed in germany since '75 and only occasionaly visited back home which deprived me of my hometowns rich culture and made me miss out so many things.back "home",john peel was our only lifeline to broaden our musical taste.if new order never had released "blue monday" i may have had never gained the luxury of discovering the band that changed my life.
¡QUE BANDA! UNICA QUE TENIA UN SONIDO y LETRAS UNICAS PARA LA EPOCA Y NEW ORDER LO MEJOR EN SU ESTILO.CADA UNO EN LO SUYO MARCARON LA HISTORIA" la mia si"👏👏👏👏😲😖😎
HOOK,MORRIS Y GUILLIAN GILBERT LOS SIGO SON UNOS MUSICOS FANTASTICOS.SIGAN ASI.MI NOMBRE ES ULISES Y SOY DE PASO DEL REY PROV DE BUENOS AIRES ARGENTINA.MUCHAS GRACIAS A TODOS.👏👏👏👏😉😎
Holy shite.. would never in a million years have expected to hear Virgil Mr. Off White himself waxing about the influence joy division had on himself 👏👏

Wait- the implications of this is that Peter's delusions are over and he's on good terms with the rest of New Order, right? How else would they get him in a podcast about New Order?
Martin Hannett was pure genius. Often replicated. Never duplicated.
one of the great producers ever. david foster can keep those fucking grammys, it don't mean shit.
True...
No one comes close. He was a mad genius..
Unknknow pleasure Joy diivision
Surprising to hear Ian Curtis's faltering, high pitched speaking voice when we're so used to the beauty and power of his singing voice.
An Ideal For Living by Mark Johnson explains the Dif between Ian's vocals. Tech brilliance.
The more I listen to this band, the more it mesmerizes me.

So fascinating. Thanks for sharing!
Forever Joy Division
Always my favourite band and my #1 album of all time
Were I ever to get a band tattoo, JD would be it. Full stop.
"Long. Gevi-teh" Beautiful stuff. Is haunting to listen to Ian's normal voice in interviews.
That was Hook speaking
Joy Division this is the start of it all...

I recently found out that stacking your graphs to look a bit like the UP album covers is known as a joy plot
That made my day! 👍
impresionante!!
Ian C Was Here.
They always talk about the sleeve but never the name of the album? Why is it called "Unknown Pleasures"? Who chose that name? Same goes to Closer.
Very true!!
🖤
Really interesting. Would be even better if the text narrated did not include "of all times" every 5 minutes.
FEELING FEELING FELIING FEELING FEEEliiingg..

Sod off with the bloody ads!
The Kanye West collaborator/fashion designer added very little to the conversation...Who decides who gets interviewed?? Smh 🤦♂️
Great doc, and I know its no fault of yourself, but shame about the ads every 5 mins or so, so over the top...
It’s available as a podcast with no adverts.
@@andyd3656 great, thanks mate:)
@@notenoughholidays Ad Blocker?
A good story utterly ruined by so many bloody adverts, are NO THAT desperate to grab every last penny they can get?
Ha ha, Bono! They'll need Dave Grohl, too!
;-)
