  • Billed as a Farah attempt on the long standing British 2 Mile record Farah had to make do with a hard fought second place behind the excellent Kenyan Kipchoge, who won in the equally excellent time of 8.07.39,to Farah's 8.08.07(UK NR) and Kipsiro's 8.08.16(Ugandan NR).A great race ,with all first six runners getting either PB' or NR's.

      Kipchoge's range is absolutely insane. 3:33 for 1500, 7:27 for 3000, 12:46 for 5000, and now 2:03 for the legal marathon (2:00:25 not counting the IAAF rules). Insane.

    Good race. Kipchoge and Farah are two of the greatest ever; Bekele and Kipsiro are extremely tough competition. All four in one race, with a fast pace, was a joy to watch. You could really see that marathoner strength come out in the last lap of a fast paced race. In a slower race, Farah probably sprints right by in the last 150M.

    Love how Mo has a clearly bad finish and gets second, and everybody in the comments is suddenly talking about how "overrated" he is. If he would have won I'm sure the comments would be praising him.

    • @AgencyEric
      @AgencyEric 8 лет назад +7

      +SirFancyPants21 I don't know if it's fair to say it's a "clearly bad" finish. Winning time was 8:07 indoors, that's really quick time so a bad finish could easily be a result of the pace.
      The main issue is who beat Farah. If one of the other guys had won instead of Kipchoge, you probably wouldn't see these comments about being overrated. They would just say Mo had a bad race because he usually smokes those other guys.
      Kipchoge changes the game a little, because he is someone Mo hasn't battled, and was the smallest of notches behind the titans of the 90s and early 2000s like Geb, Bekele, Sihine, and Hicham. Because Mo has never ran a scorching fast time, there is speculation that he isn't in the same class as a Geb or Bekele and the only reason he is so dominant is that he faces a weaker crop of runners than the greats of 20 years ago.
      When a guy like Kipchoge, who has been dealing with injury for a long time no less, shows up and beats Mo it's easy to see how it makes people wonder if Mo is GOAT status great. It doesn't say anything definitive, but it certainly stirs up the pot about whether guys like Bekele, Kipchoge, Hicham, etc. were that much better than Mo.
      It's worth noting that even the fact that we are seeing comments like this is pretty high regard for Farah. If people are discussing whether you are overrated in the sense of not deserving the status of GOAT track distance runner...then obviously people still think you're pretty damn good.
