- Waco, Texas. A place known for a lot of different things. The birthplace of Dr. Pepper, home of the Texas Sports Hall of Fame as well as, sadly, one of the most tragic incidents in American religious history masterminded by a maniacal cult leader. Something the city is definitely not known for is producing musical superstars. But, it happened when R&B group Hi-Five came on the scene.

Hi-Five was signed to a production deal just like New Edition, TLC and many other past groups/artists. A production deal is basically legalized slavery where the managers get to touch the group's money before they do and give them an allowance while they pocket most of the money for themselves.
Hi-Five still performs in 2023 with a line-up of: Marcus Sanders, Treston Irby, Shannon Gill, Billy Covington and Faruq Evans. RIP Roderick "Pooh" Clark 🙏🏾 Tony Thompson 🙏🏾
Omg yess😢
Facts
I like this comment
Very smart
Maybe They had to compete, to get paid
Hi-Five's Unsung episode is one of the most saddest episodes next to The DeBarge family
Agreed. I would add Force MDs in the saddest episodes.
Facts
Donny Hathaway, Phyllis Hyman, Florence Ballard, Minnie Riperton, Roger & Zapp & The Lost Boyz were sad episodes as well.
Facts
And add Tammi Terrell to that as well. Those 3 episodes are so sad to me
RIP to both Tony Thompson and Roderick "Pooh" Clark
Rest in peace to Tony Thompson 🕊️❤️.
NEVER SHOULD’VE LET YOU GO is one of the greatest songs of the 90’s. They way the lead singer, Toni Thompson, carried the song, the last chorus and the ad libs at the soulful end was super dope! THE KISSING GAME is one of my faves too!
Same!! ❤ …”Is there someone else standing where I stood?”🎶🎶
I LOVE that song one of my favorites.
@@Dii552 yes! Especially the last chorus and then Toni humming while the songs fades out.
Tony Thompson's solo debut album definitely deserves more credit
It was a good album.
Good album!! Hate it didn’t get more credit
Yes
No matter how many times I hear this story it always makes me feel so sad... Smh.. This group is a part of my musical journey having shaped my young teenage years... Rip to Pooh and Tony Thompson 🙏🏾❤️🕊️
Blasting unconditional love today.. Happy Valentines day everyone! ❤️
They went thru a lot! Rest in peace Tony & Roderick! "I Like The Way (Kissing Game)" is my jam!
Was just listening to Tony Thompson the other actually, his voice was fantastic.
Their group name and their early songs were quite youthful, but they had singing voices like they were grown. Kissing Game, Unconditional Love, Quality Time, Can't Wait Another Minute stay in my rotation.
Hi-Five had a lot of timeless classic hits
This was overwhelming!!! Just a string of bad things happening to this group!!
My favorite songs from Hi-Five are Quality Time, Unconditional Love, and Never Should’ve Let You God. Timeless music
Never should’ve let you Go is definitely at timeless work of art especially the music video!!
I love Hi-Five so much!! Darrin Henson was the choreographer in the She’s Playing Hard to Get video.
Oh wow interesting, that's cool
RIP Tony Thompson 🕊️
Man, hearing their tracks hits different when you find out some dark stuff later on. Sheesh, glad they're still a part of my playlist but who knew these dark behind the scenes stories....
Unconditional love.... my favorite song! Tony's had an amazing voice. RIP
Hi-Five's Greatest Hits album was released on the same day as 2Pac's Thug Life Vol. 1 in 1994
I WANNA LOVE LIKE THAT was a great single from Toni Thompson. I wish his solo career was more successful.
RIP 🕊️
Out of all the members of Hi Five, the only member of the group to not have any troubles is Marcus Sanders….glad Marcus And Treston are staying strong and positive….. RIP Tony Thompson William Walton And Roderick Pooh Clarke….
What a crazy story! I had no idea they had been through so much. It's very sad.
Keep up the great videos. Unsung did not go into depth like you. Thanks
Hi-Five were on Jive Records with a lot of acts on there such as DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince, Too $hort, E-40, Joe, Nick Cannon, Backstreet Boys, N'Sync, Aaron Carter, Britney Spears, Petey Pablo and many more
You forgot KRS-One, A Tribe Called Quest, UGK, D-Nice, Ant Banks, Spice 1, Pooh Man, Keith Murray, Fu-Schnickens, Souls Of Mischief, Casual & Nuttin' Nyce who helped build Jive back in the 90s.
Long before Hi5 (1991/c) and many other Jive artists.. in the mid-late 80s is The Skinny Boys an American hip hop group, originally from Bridgeport, Connecticut started its career on the independent record label Bush… The group went on to sign with Jive/RCA Records and had a two albums released by that label, namely Skinny & Proud and Skinny (They Can't Get Enough). Skinny Boys members are Shockin' Shawn (Shaun Harrison), Superman Jay (James J. Harrison), and The Human Jock Box (Jacque D. Lloyd)…. Also a group that never really received the recongition they deserved. Active: 1985 - current. Fact ✅
Don’t forget IMAJIN a late 90s Jive/RCA R&B teen quartet “boy band”… the group consists of members Jamal Hampton, Talib Kareem, Olamide Faison, and John Fitch, all of who were still in their teens, ages 15,16,17 at the time. The producer Bert Price played a large part in assembling the band and guiding them, resulting in a recording contract with the Jive label. They were super talented.. writing most of their songs and playing instruments on a few... Their self-titled debut album Imajin released October 26, 1999. The sophmore album, Imajin Unreleased, was released July 26, 2005. Active 1998 - ✅

OMG Sparkle is WAAAAY overdue! I believe there's already a video on this channel about Ideal if I'm not mistaken.
Dwele is still very much doing well in his hometown, detroit. I happen to know the drummer of his band.
Great video.. can you do one on Keith Washington?
Lionel C. Martin directed the music video for She's Playing Hard to Get
Love these stories so much
Imagine their song "I Like The Way (The Kissing Game)" being ORIGINALLY meant for TLC under the name "I Love The Way (You Make Me Feel)" for their debut album Ooooooohhh... On the TLC Tip👱🏾♀👩🏾👧🏾👕🩹🧢🩳🥾🍼🤍❤💛🧡💜💚🖤
Excellent video my favorite RUclips channel can you do one on for lil Corey
Great video as always 🎉😂❤
So much Tragedy...
Reminds Me of The Temptations' Career.
That first album is hands down their best album. My favorite track from it was Merry-Go-Round and The Way You Said Goodbye. Merry-Go-Round in my opinion would’ve been just as big as the Kissing Game if it was a single.
This is wild. I had no idea they had so much shit going on.
I miss that group Hi Five.
And by the way, R.I.P. Tony Thompson.
Miss them too
Roderick "Pooh" Clark died on the same day as DJ Kay Slay last year RIP to both Roderick "Pooh" Clark and DJ Kay Slay
As a houston native an a 90's clubber that killing of his wife was such a shock when both brothers were killers.
this is when HiFive was the absolute shit!!!! Toriano, Tony, Russell, Marcus and Pooh thats it and all❤
Hi-Five's 3rd album Unfaithful will be 30 this year
#HighFive / Tony T one of my #90smusic favorites sad sad end for Tony T RIP
RIP Pooh, you were a great entertainer and man😢❤
Despite all of the trials & tribulations they kept it pushin.
man, god bless hi five! they're one of the reasons why i was able to COPE while I was going thru depression AND paranoia. them, en vogue, tlc, jodeci, swv etc R.I.P 👑tony Thompson
High five temptations of the 90's 😒😔 so sad 😢😕😩
R.I.P Pooh Clark & Tony ❤️
Sheeesh! This was sad. 😮
Who so many twists and turns with the group this is crazy!
I just watched an ID episode regarding one of the band members Russell last night
Yes!! Thats is when I found out my hubby looked like old boy. Color me shocked 😮
I'm watching it now on ID this is what made me Google it and get here about Catherine Martinez and Russell Neal .... Wow 😮😮😮
I named my oldest son Riley after Teddy Riley
Well that was sad. 💜RIP💜
so much death & destruction here. very sad.
Russell was sentenced to 40 years in prison around 2020.
Damn that’s a lot bad luck
Subway? What happend to them
One of my Brothers used to hang with one of the Members. They would sing together.
I went to a Party where 2 other Members were. Back in Chicago. Decades ago! I remember Subway. I just forgot their names. I'm much older now.😢
They're still making disgusting sandwiches
@@youtubeuserzzzz right, that’s a story I’d love to hear , we know hi five in & out by now but I wonder bout the subway story , I never knew any of their names .
@@mewesquirrel6720 lol
@@youtubeuserzzzz Eric McNeal, Roy Jones, Keith Thomas, & Trerail Puckett.
You got a few things wrong: 1. The group first consisted of Tony and Russell, then Tony told Vinnie Bell about Toriano when he asked him if he knew anyone else who could sing anywhere near as good as him. The group was promoted as a trio and their initial demo was rejected. THEN they picked up Marcus and Pooh. 2. You missed the part where after Russell left for the last time, Treston Tony and Marcus decided to replace Pooh withi Terrence Murphy, then shortly after touring as a quartet, picked up Shannon Gill. I didn't know that Toriano and Terrence Murphy did a project with Vinnie Bell in the 2000's though. Im gonna try looking for it now. That must be a good project.
The late July ‘92 crash in FL that permanently sidelined Pooh and Russell was asked to return, he appears with the group as a quartet (4) on Arsenio Hall show in Sept. 1992, by early 1993 Russell was gone, and Terrence Murphy name was added along side Tony, Marcus, Irby but with Pooh’s name still appearing in all their media promotions the quintet (5) group.. correct, they operated pretty much as a quartet (4) with Terrence on board, in March 1993 promo ad his name replaces Russell. It was months later until Shannon Gill arrival, he is new replacement for Pooh, and once again making appearances as a quintet(5) sometime around their Hi-Five collaboration with label mate Nuttin Nyce (video and song recording) and album cover photo for their 3rd studio album Faithful released Oct. 1993.. it appears Russell’s final exit as a member occurred between late 1992 and around early part of 1993.. therefore the decision too leave their Jive label for Giant records was being negotiated while Russell was still in the group bc of the group decision to give him only one-half of his $60K advance, a recoupment, this upset him and he walked.. dare to say how upset he would be when he realized, it’s a loan, you got to payback “not a bonus”.. it make no sense, why would they do that, his failure to show up for show performances, video shoots was while under their Jive deal, it had nothing to do with their new Giant record deal down the road, approx 2-years.. Jive release a Hi-5 Greatest Hits album Nov. 1994.. they were dropped almost upon arrival at Giant looks like… the group is also disbanded 1994.. by early 1995 Tony is a Giant solo artist at a struggling financially record label… There are so many moving parts to this groups story, over 30 plus years.. people forget, and time for some serious blogger-journalists research put forth🤔🖐🏾

That's a long comment
So sad so sad.
RIP Tony, I still listen to your music, missing you.😢❤
Also RIP to Pooh!!!
This a first for me knowing about how terrible these members of High_five where.obsessed with Evil beginnings...some of them where born criminals...
RIP to both of the women who lost their lives to one of the members and his younger brother.
So if he had a addiction to cocaine what led to his addiction to sniff air from an air-conditioner ?
Right,
Logical thinking
@@100rose I felt I needed to ask that question but I have heard that what happened in reality was that Tony had gotten medication for whining himself off his heroin addiction but in the last few months of his life because his passing something must have caused him to relapse to drugs in general wonder what it could have been....I know though that the 2005/06 court case against him legally took a toll on him on many levels.
The media is scripted, planted
The media is scripted, planted
Nothing ever soothed out, treston (judas), and Tony didn't get along
There is truth, that there is a Ying to every yang, and everyone has a twin in the universe. With that being said, although they are nothing alike in nature, my husband is almost russell neal exact twin. He just have a full beard and he might be a couple shades smaller. I always tell him, that he's the good twin. My brother n law looks a lot like russell brother whom killed his wife as well. And he is also a kind soul [my bil is not russell brother.]
People saying B2K was the messiest boy band? They probably was but Hi-Five was worse
They were cursed
