A lot of the method books I see start people in the upper half or at least balance point but there is definite merit to using the lower half too. If they end up crunching the sound then it’s usually easier to get them to back off instead of trying to add more for some reason. At least for me

I use the balance point in the lower half. 99% of the time when I started a student out in the upper half, it’s nearly impossible to get them to go to the Frog. So I just start there, less stress for the teacher

For some strange reason, I think my upbows sound better than my downbows, which can tend to be shaky. Maybe it has to do with physiology. We’re all different.

Thanks. I hadn’t thought about needing to use some weight on the up-bow even at the frog. I had been concentrating on the difference between weight at the frog and the tip but ignoring up-bow/down-bow differences.

For some reasons I play much better at the tip of the bow, and when I play at the frog it scratches
