Does the first part of the video show how to do what you want? You can resize the window to the size you want, or maybe I'm not understanding what you are asking. Please let me know.
subbed because of the alt comment at 3:39 in the video, all the other videos evaded this. some even said to hit a subregion button, but OBS doesn't have that one. lol.
Under Window Capture, Properties, after selecting the source window, I see no border with corner and center squares to change it's shape, there is no border at all. What other setting am I missing? Thx,
Do you have the window open you want to record? In properties, did you go into the window area, the down arrow and select the windows you have open, then hit OK? See the video starting at .57. If you have done all the shown steps, it should work for you. Please let me if it works for you or not, OK?
You are holding the Alt key down while moving the corners or the sides in, right? And are you then resizing the window, not holding the Alt key down, right? All this as in the video at 3:08. If you're doing all these things, it should work. If it's not working for you, well that's hard to answer without being there to see what going on. Maybe with a little practice, it will work for you. Good luck. Hope it starts working for you.
Yeah, oaky. So if I resize my display source to 400x400 px. How do I get rid of all the black margin. I don't want to resize my source to fill the space. I want my recording at 100%. You don't show us how to do that but, instead you resize the source. That doesn't get rid of the margin. I want my outputted video to be 400x400px, not 1920x1080 with my recorded video in the middle with a large margin around it. I can't seem to find anyone who addresses this. Your title is misleading. how can I just record the part of the video without stretching it to fill the huge resolution, if you only want to record a small area of the screen, especially if it is not landscape, how can you do it, I have been searching for AGES and cant find anything about this! I just want to record the window area at the resolution of the window area!
I not sure I understand exactly what you are asking, but to record a small area you would follow the instructions at 2:46, then make it the size you want. You will still end up with margins showing. I not sure if this answers your question. If not p.ease let me know and I'll try as best as I can. Thanks for watching and take care.

I agree, the video should have been titled something like "How to record a specific window with OBS". However, the tip he gave at 4:14 does seem to work--you have to choose new Source -> Display Capture, then do the alt-left mouse dragging each corner trick to crop down to the region of the display you want.
