Captain Phillips was a pirate movie, but that's not the kind we want. Nothing wrong with that movie, but I don't think this is the kind of "pirate movie" you're thinking of. And you're right.
+chuck findlay I was thinking the exact same thing. Pirates of the Caribbean and Treasure Island? Yeah, obviously movies about pirates. But Peter Pan and Princess Bride? Definitely not.
Wrong. Kaizoku-o oni ore wa naru! Pirate King, Monkey .D Luffy will rule the world He'd single-handedly beat everyone in the Pirates of the Carribean movies easily.
Swiss Family Robinson was amazing!! My brother and I would keep asking our parents to rent that movie over and over...one of the most fun films I've watched in my day!
No Yellowbeard? Cutthroat Island? Pirates (1986, with Walter Matthau)? Ice Pirates? Pirates of Penzance? I can understand not including Treasure Planet and Muppet Treasure Island, since they're just revisions of Treasure Island, yet there are two films here based on Peter Pan... Come on Mojo, you can do better.
Princess Bride in a Pirates Movies "Top 10 of all times"? LOL. For a movie that never displays any piracy or even a pirate flag or anything related to piracy other than a mention to "Dread Pirate Roberts", that *is* weird. I guess there are hardly any pirate movies out there. This can explain it.
I want to see Tarantino do an adaptation of Pirate latitudes by Crichton! It could be everything we've all wanted from a pirate movie. I think pirates of the Caribbean is good for kids but that is it...not what I expect from pirates...which is a bloody harsh adult environment.
I still feel like Treasure Island deserves #1 lets face it with out Robert Louis Stevenson most if not all other pirate movies would have never been made. If you want to see one of the best renditions of the film check out the old TnT classic Staring Christian Bale, Charlton Heston, Christopher Lee, and Oliver Reed.
glad to see Treasure Island - arguably the best version on the list ! Whats interesting is that Long John, played by Robert... used his own West Country accent and hence all pirates today sound like they come from Bristol ! AHHH ! Also Erol Flynn is rightly acknowleged . I liked Pirates of the Caribean particularly Kera Knightly !
Top 10 Pirates of the Caribbean Characters 10. Comodore James Norrington 9. Edward Teach/Blackbeard 8. Angelica Teach 7. Lord Cutler Bucket 6. Joshamee Gibbs 5. Elizabeth Turner (Swann) 4. Captain Jack Sparrow
Fun fact: the kid in the version of Treasure Island featured in this video is also Peter Pan. He is the actor that they used a sort of roto-scoping technique on for the animation and facial expressions of Peter Pan
For the record, Sir Henry Morgan was a privateer, not a pirate. It pretty much just means he was legally allowed to be a pirate to other pirates for the government.
ryand730 Yep. The only difference between a privateer and a pirate was a letter of marque. And then you were a privateer to whomever provided you with the letter of marque and a pirate to everyone else.
ryand730 Well maybe just enough of a difference to get you killed if you accused one of being the other. Hmm this actually reminds me of the Shichibukais from One Piece.
Well, Treasure planet is a steam-punk version of Treasure Island. Should have a honorary mention tough. :) And I really like to see Treasure Planet as a more gritty and adult movie.
Cutthroat Island? You must be joking! Not only was this film one of the biggest box-office flops of all time, it sent studio Carolco Pictures bankrupt!
So I love The Princess Bride (even more than I love the original Pirates of the Carribean movie in the Depp Quadrillogy (Is that actually a word?)) but is it really a pirate film?
The quick blurb on The Princess Bride hardly does justice. It's a story now handed down from generation to generation, with unparalleled demonstrations of sword skill choreographed by the best. It's a movie that appeals to all ages and will last for the next hundred years at least. Far superior in every aspect to Pirates of the Caribbean, an adaptation of an afterthought Disney attraction.
this list proves that we need more pirate movies
Captain Phillips was a pirate movie, but that's not the kind we want. Nothing wrong with that movie, but I don't think this is the kind of "pirate movie" you're thinking of. And you're right.
There are, but it's hard when you need to produce a video before deadline. Check out my no. one: Cutthroat Island
I want a realistic one like maybe about Anne Bonnie or something
@@imdead1922 yeah and one that can capture that night time vibe in the docks
@@imdead1922 Nice profile picture :)
Pirates of the Caribbean. never gets old
@Emma Harvey and 5th

james 27 the 5th is new it came like three years ago he can’t see the future
Will turner is the best part
@@lurkenskanal405 1,2 and 3?
There is a dire need for more pirate movies.
It's worth mentioning Black Sails, excellent TV series for those who like pirates!
some of these movies were not even pirate movies, just because it has character that is a pirate does not mean a pirate movie
Agreed
Straight up
+chuck findlay
At least they got #1 right.
+chuck findlay I was thinking the exact same thing. Pirates of the Caribbean and Treasure Island? Yeah, obviously movies about pirates. But Peter Pan and Princess Bride? Definitely not.
Megstar360 you're insane if you think Peter Pan isn't a pirate movie.
You will always remember this as the day you almost caught Captain Jack Sparrow!
I don't think anyone can make a better pirate movie than POTC. Everybody from Jack to Gibbs were so damn loveable.
+AceTheFace954
Muppet Treasure Island.
Ikrani lol right
Ikrani lol I'll add it to my list.
Cutthroat Island... Caraibi ... some names which could go very well there.
AceTheFace954 you ever notice how they don't do much pirating in the movie?
It doesn't get any better than potc
Wrong.
Kaizoku-o oni ore wa naru!
Pirate King, Monkey .D Luffy will rule the world He'd single-handedly beat everyone in the Pirates of the Carribean movies easily.
+Bloodstainer LOL
Sandosam 879 Seriously though, name a single potc character that won't lose to Zoro or Luffy
Davy Jones or cursed barbossa
Gol D Roger or Garp will rape every single being in PotC
1990's Treasure Island with Christian Bale was definitely the best Pirate movie ever.
And TinTin? That was a great movie! Loved the originals and comics!
Muppet Treasure Island is awesome
I was rlly excpecting Treasure planet to be here

The best pirate experience is ASSASSINS CREED 4 BLACK FLAG!!!
Stronguista94 You do realise thought that AC: Black Flag is not a movie?
Nadia Kosviner he never said it was.
Good pirate game, bad Assassin's Creed game.
i totally agree mate !
You should have played Sea Dogs 2, way better.
The Crimson Pirate with Burt Lancaster is my favorite.
I'm so happy you put Captain Blood in! I was fearing you were only going to put in more recent movies :)
The Crimson Pirate starring Burt Lancaster should have been on the list.
How could the Sea Hawk not be on this list!? Just the amazing Score by Erich Wolfgang Korngold should have gotten it on here!
Agreed. The Sea Hawk is a Top 5 all-time pirate movie, and it’s a shame it wasn’t on this list.
Where are PotC 2 and 3?
Davie Jones locker
This will never complete without pirates of the Caribbean
Hook is my very favorite! LOVE Dustin Hoffman's performance as the infamous Captain James Hook
The Pirate Movie (1982) starring Kristy McNichol and Christopher Atkins remains in my top spot as favorite Pirate film.
So glad that Pirates of the Caribbean made it. Though the ride is definitely cheesy, the movie was pretty good.
muppet treasure island was always my favorite
Everybody loves PotC, but Captain Blood (1935) is great pirate movie!
Now when i watched your list, i will not allow to forget about pirate movie masterpiece
The Crimson Pirate. My childhood best pirate movie ever.
glad to see Treasure Island - arguably the best version on the list ! Whats interesting is that Long John, played by Robert... used his own West Country accent and hence all pirates today sound like they come from Bristol ! AHHH ! Also Erol Flynn is rightly acknowleged . I liked Pirates of the Caribean particularly Kera Knightly !
The recent remake of Peter Pan was excellent. 1934 Treasure Island was exceptional Treasure Planet was an unexpected treat.
In The Black Swan, you got Henry Morgan's part of the plot mixed up with Captain Jamie Waring's part.

Top 10 notorious real life pirates
Pirates of the Carribean is THE pirate movie IMO. Glad to see it's been sorted in the right place.
muppet treasure island has always been my favorite
Fun fact: the kid in the version of Treasure Island featured in this video is also Peter Pan. He is the actor that they used a sort of roto-scoping technique on for the animation and facial expressions of Peter Pan
That Bobby Driscoll you’re thinking of
Nice to see I wasn't the only one that thought of that one.
Cutthroat Island starring Geena Davis was a great pirate movie, yet not included. Highly recommended.
Best version of treasure island is the 1990 tv movie featuring Charlton Heston, Christian Bale, Julian Glover, Pete Postlethwaite and more.
And Oliver Reed Yes in did ...
For the record, Sir Henry Morgan was a privateer, not a pirate. It pretty much just means he was legally allowed to be a pirate to other pirates for the government.
Not just against unaffiliated pirates, but to any enemies of the crown to which the privateer swore fealty.
yup
SnappyK9 There's not really much difference between a privateer and a pirate. They all like gold and killing and alcohol.
ryand730 Yep. The only difference between a privateer and a pirate was a letter of marque. And then you were a privateer to whomever provided you with the letter of marque and a pirate to everyone else.

Great list!
Long live the Pirate Republic!
Where was muppet treasure island? :)
I think that indirectly under the Treasure Island film.
what about Captain Phillips?
You forgot Muppet Treasure Island.
I use to watch Muppet Treasure Island on video when I was Little Hallingbury Primary School kid.
Hmmm no Cutthroat island , loved that movie .
No Crimson Pirate with Burt Lancaster? I cry foul!
what bout "cutthroat island?"
I think that At World's End is the best pirate film ever, also the first is terrific, but the epic and complex plot of the third is my favourite one.
I love this channel.
I love the Goonies, because it is one of the few movies that takes place in my home state.
"The Black Pirate" (1926) with Douglas Fairbanks should be on the list.
I couldn't get into the Pirates of the Caribbean movies myself but cool that others can .
there needs to be a top ten list of just the best jack sparriw moments
Umm the Goonies?! Yet no Cut Throat Island? What the hell is the silliness?
Hey what about Pirates (1986) from Cannon flims or Cutthroat island (1995) from Carolco?!
Why is "Cut Throat Island" not on this list...??? It's way better than a couple of these.
I think Tresure Island is the best one..
....(i liked that one)
thx i search this movie a long time
loved the goonies, still have the dvd
Idk if they are only counting live action but I always loved the animated Sinbad movie with Brad Pitt voicing him. Sinbad and Black Sails anyone?
Good list. I also like Black Beard's Ghost and Muppet Treasure Island.
Captain Kidd with Charles Laughton should be near the top. He's crazy good.
Captain Blood is the greatest pirate movie, period!
cutthroat island
Burt Lancaster's The Crimson Pirate should also have been on the list.
The world srsly needs to make more pirate movies!
crossbones and black sails
Please, make a top of fictional pirates
One piece live action will be the greatest pirate show ever to be created
Tintin deserve to be on this List
Great pirate films
Mine too. It's the best masterpiece ever. It's the best underrated film from the disney studios.
No "Pirates" with Walther Matthau!? Poor list...
I agree
We need current pirate movies. I don't really wanna watch movies from 1950's unless it's something out of this world.
one of the best pirate movies
Captain Blood should've been Number 1.
Pirates of the caribbean is my favorite
How about Against All Flags and The Princess and the Pirate?
Where is Burt Lancaster's ' The Crimson Pirate (1952)? Just about the best ever in this genre & not even an honorable mention. Mojo, walk the plank!!!
Well, Treasure planet is a steam-punk version of Treasure Island.
Should have a honorary mention tough. :)
And I really like to see Treasure Planet as a more gritty and adult movie.
POTC alone is why we love pirates
Hook is still one of my alltime favorite movies :3
Cutthroat Island? You must be joking! Not only was this film one of the biggest box-office flops of all time, it sent studio Carolco Pictures bankrupt!
And yet, had that excellent pirate movie come out AFTER Pirates of the Caribbean, it would have been haled as fantastic. Timing is everything.
The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, They were the best type of pirates.
This is more like an "Adventure" top list than pirates XD
I love pirate movies :)
Cutthroat Island should be among them
Muppets on treasure island is my favorite.
you got that right i use to own everthing you could of the pirates of the caribeanin
So I love The Princess Bride (even more than I love the original Pirates of the Carribean movie in the Depp Quadrillogy (Is that actually a word?)) but is it really a pirate film?
No, not even close :).
That be just another version of Treasure Island, matey.
HOOK! CLASSIC!
That moment when you realise that Nate was an assassin (white clothes, red cloth belt)
damn who didn't love the muppets pirates
Dead Man's Chest is by far the BEST PIRATES MOVIE EVER!!!!
Why with the kraken
+vegeta solo kid no it is not..first movie is best couse is movie for itself..second and third are just episodes..dislike big as mountain
+emil mart What the fuck ??
I love all the POTC films. I've been a huge fan since day one.
At World's End takes the cake for me. How can you top a battle in a maelstrom?! I know!!! By finally killing that emotionless sob Beckett!!!
I love Hook SO much.
Pirates (1986) with Walter Matthau , dunno how can you miss that one..
It's very under rated.
