I can describe the Pioneer X in 3 words: sturdy, stylish, simple.
I recently bought it (also my first alox SAK) and I love this thing. I own half a dozen cellidor SAKs (Compact, Climber etc.) and despite the lack of certain functions this feels like a genuine step up from all that. I've seen comments in the past like "that's it, I'm selling my cellidors and I'll only collect alox from now on" and "going back to cellidor feels like holding a toy" and now I understand why.

The alox models are great and have a classy look and feel about them.
Thanks for the heads up for the LIVE on Sunday, will be turning in if possible🤞🏻

Nice review, I might have to pick this one up. Always carried a Super Tinker for many years and really enjoyed that tool set with the great scissors plus the 3 layer knives are just about perfect size wise for the pockets, not too big or bulky, not so small as to get lost in the pocket, thanks for posting!

The Pioneer X is the only Alox model I have and I like it a lot, however I would like to get a Farmer X and a few others as well. Thanks for sharing and Cheers!

I've had mine for about 3 years. When I first got it I was struck by how slippery the scales were. After 3 years of regular carry and use, I'm happy to say that the slipperiness is just about gone. I still prefer the celador scales, but The Pioneer X has moved into second place among my favorite knives. The Super Tinker is still at number one, but the Pioneer has significantly closed the gap.

Slippy I love me a sak so many models to choose from depending on what job you do determines knife you buy for example if you hike a hiker is for you same for camper and cycling I love my 2 layer sak in black walnut has large blade and small and exellent saw perfect for my whittling projects the screwdrivers are great to tighten screws on things like sauce pan or repairing a plug for electric items I Don't want a sak too chunky or I has holes in pocket and has too many tools I won't use 2 layer is sensible choice enough to get jobs done but very thin models arnt for me the lack of saw and being thin would loose control of razor sharp blade causing bad accidents need good grip on tool for safety reasons also you should never have to force tool to cut again accidents happen if blunt due to more force required to cut better if tool is scary sharp no force needed great content Slippy 👍🐾🦊🇮🇹

A newer one, with steel middle pin and a flat area around the rivets. Nice!
It's interesting that they still make small improvements on such an old design.
(I mean, the X is pretty new, but the Pioneer range isn't.)

      Hey, Guys!
I have seen versions with 3 yellowish pins/rivets without flattened and smoothened scale areas around them and the other is the one shown in the video.
Can someone please explain it to me and which version is better? Thanks!

    • @miklospinter
      @miklospinter 9 месяцев назад +1

@@KLINGBART The newest version is both with flat area and different middle rivet.
I assume the flat area only helps to prevent damage to the scales during assembly. (Some colored alox used to look ugly around the pins because the anodization was probably damaged by the riveting machine.)
The steel middle rivet is probably stronger than the nickel silver one. (They also used steel on old cross Alox knives.) It probably doesn't matter for 1-2 layer knives (that's why it worked well for many years), but the 3-4 layer alox models might need a stronger pin in the middle. After they introduced the Pioneer X, Sakmodder reported that he found bent middle pins when he disassembled early Pioneer Xs. Maybe that was the reason to change to steel.

@@KLINGBART Thank you, happy to hear that :)
I'm not sure how fast the stock runs out in different stores, I guess you can still find the old versions in some places.
These are very minor differences though, you won't really notice these things unless you are focusing on it.

I compromise with bantam or tinker alongside swiss card in the wallet, this way all the tools are present.

I have the Limited Edition 2022 Pioneer X Alox that really like.
I do not want use the Limited Edition as my EDC so I have picked up a standard Pioneer X Alox that I will rotate with my Compact as my EDC.

I know the bladestock on the solo is a bit thicker then the celidor models, i'm not sure if that is the fact for all Alox models. The Alox models just feel more capable for harder use, i do carry a lot of the regular models though. Thank you Matt.

I just ordered a Swiss Army 7, I initially bought it for the pruning blade but then realized it doesn’t
have a key loop. The key ring on the alox models digs into the palm of my hand, because of it’s location.
This doesn’t occur with the 91mm models because on the 91mm versions the key ring is more on the bottom.
I like having a lanyard attachment but not at the expense of comfort when actually using the knife.
What has been your experience with this issue ? I am guessing Victorinox had a need to locate the ring
where it is. Thank you for the video, maybe there is a solution I am not aware of.

Which is kind of a paradox when you consider that this type of knife was the Soldier model i.e. the one issued to recruits whilst traditionally the celidor scaled knives an their forerunners were for officers only, and I think they had to privately purchase them. But I agree that nowadays these alox models look very elegant too.
