I was getting into this because I used regular 6 plastic and they came out well and wanted to do more. This paper I bought shrank down 80% and not the 20% the plastic I tested was. Womp. Now I have charms that I can glue to my nails haha
Do you need to seal it before using resin? Someone said they used Grafix inkjet shrink plastic and used resin directly onto it, but can you use UV resin and not coat it as well?
Came back to this video because I wanted to try playing with shrinky dinks again! I remembered you saying something about resin not sticking to the shrink plastic, which was my experience before as well, and I needed a reminder on how you fixed that issue. Thank you Amy! x
I find your tutorials really helpful. I’m interested in the most reliable way of attaching a brooch pin to the back of a resin brooch, if I were to make it out of shrink plastic. X
I have watched some shrinking plastic and resin diy videos for quite a while but it wasn’t until I found your channel that I became obsessed. I NEED to make lots of pins and charms to decorate absolutely everything I own. Thank you so much for the clear explanations and tips!! I really hope to see more form you.
Thank you so much for sharing your process! I just subscribed. I’m so glad you showed other products to use other than sharpies. The flakes would look gorgeous on a name keychain with a black outline. Your pins are adorable 😍. Please do more shrinky dink tutorials.
I use different mediums and i really appreciate these different video tutorials you make. They really do help me learn about different techniques i can use to get the most out of my work. Thanks to you
I love how you elevate the shrink plastic by dining it with resin. 💖 I did a lot of cool jewellery about 20 years ago, but people couldn't see past the fact that it was plastic to appreciate the Art of it. The resin really makes a difference. I used to sand my plastic and use prismacolour (not the cheaper "scholar" version -- it streaks) coloured pencils, with sharpies or pigment liners for the linework. More recently, I did some jewellery using the print on kind. It is noticeably more expensive than the basic shrink plastic, but a very cool effect.
I just started doing stuff with shrinky dinks. I love how versatile it is. I make gifts for my students and they love it. Plus their hands can’t break them
Hi. I enjoyed your video very much. I thought your explanations were very clear, plenty of info and tips, and the end results were very professional looking. Well done.
Thank you so much for making these videos about using Shrink plastic! I bought a pack years ago, but the results were awful because the instructions were not clear. However, now I've watched a few of your videos and seen your beautiful creations, I want to pick up the pack and do some fun experiments. I have lots of stickers and glittery make up to work with, I can put them to good use too.
Están purrrrfectos 😄 al principio pensé que eran aretes 😅. Gracias por compartir el tutorial muy creativa la idea y hermoso resultado y más para nosotros los amantes de los gatos😻
First off, Amazing videos. This was completely off my radar. I can't wait to try this. Second, what did you have the pieces sitting on when applying the resin. That looked like a neat thing to use and keep the resin from building on the bottom of the pieces.
Wow.. that is cool.. thanks for showing us how to do this!! and giving advice. I am trying to learn as much as I can to take this to -- next level-- dinks :-P
thank you for the cut Tip 2:23 kink of powder is that 4:57? looks like those Iredisant flaks I bought at Hogy Lobby guess looks different on camera can't see the powder substance, or if is Liquidy.
Thank you so much for the video Amy! It's super informative. I have three questions : 1) Do you need to apply modpodge again after the last layer of black acrylic at the back, before you seal the back side with resin? 2) Is it necessary to seal the back side at all? Can I get away with not doing it? 3)Does modpodge work for colored pencils?
No need to apply modpodge at all on the side you paint if applying resin. Only seal the backside if you colored it or if you’re applying resin. And modpodge works with colored pencils
OMG that's how u got the shiny letterings like that? They were so perfect I thought they were stickers 😱 !!! I'll have to try out that technique sometime. And thanks for the shout out 😭 It was a pleasant surprise!!!! Please make more shrink plastic videos!
I would love to see more designs Those came out so Cuteee ... Please make more videos you’ve inspired me to learn how to make these I have 2 girls and this would be fun for us to make #SUBSCRIBED ❤️
These are absolutely beautiful! Have you tried this with the top coat?? Im hoping to purchase everything for this but at my store im unsure if they carry the top coat :) Thank you!
Don't you need to seal the back of the pin which you covered in acrylic paint with mod podge prior to applying the resin? Or does the resin adhere well to the acrylic paint without mod podge? Thanks and amazing video!
I see, Mod Podge AND resin... I am gathering information before I buy anything to start my pins attempts. This video actually popped when I searched for shrink plastic expecting to find the one I can use in a printer. Since I design better on a PC hehe.
just a tip, instead of using your finger and the pod podge in the tub, grab yourself a can of glossy spray mod podge sealant, u can apply even thinner and there's less hassle.
Hi Amy, Can one do the project without the UV light / meaning using for example clear nail polish or other? We do not have a machine like this at home ... Thank you!
Can you link where you get the supplies? I’ve been looking for the pin backs and there’s so many sizes. Which ones did you use for these pins? The look perfect!
Hey Amy thanks for the videos they are very informative and helpful for me ❤️ please I have one question what kind of resin should I use for making jewelry cuz I am really confused now they are a lot of brands... Thank uu so much again ❤️❤️
Soukaina Dikouk I would recommend any 2 part epoxy resin. As far as brand goes, it’s hard to say since I don’t know your preference. Also I don’t know where you live or what’s available to you.
@@AmyMade aaah okay I understand thank uu so much btw I didn't check the stores that are close to me yet but I just wanted to know before buying anything. Oh and I live in Morocco (excuse my English I know I'm terrible)
Love your videos❤ will be attempting to make my own pins ^///^. Amy i do have a question. If I wanted to color my pins with nail polish colors would that be doable?
@@AmyMade yay perfect . for that i wouldnt need to seal it with mod podge when i put the resin right? I was just going through your Beginners guide to resin ^_^ so helpful! only use mod podge for water based paints or anything water based in general and paper ?
Hi, love your vid. I'm gonna try to make key chain from shrink plastic too. Have you ever used soft resin? I'm thinking of using soft resin for sealing. What do you suggest?
Yes. It happens when I didn’t dry it completely. However overall, spray sealers work better but if you used sharpie, it won’t work. So if you’re going to use spray sealer, use water based permanent markers like Prockey
I love your videos and your beautiful pins! I have two questions that are driving me wild! 1) How long do you leave the modpodge layer to dry before adding the resin? (The bottle says 4 weeks but that's just SO long! Is it really necessary?) 2) why does my UV resin layer come out sticky / tacky and a tiny bit yellow-ish even after curing for 10mins+? I tried Dimensional Magic first and while it doesn't dome so well, it dries glassy and the colour underneath shows up better.. This is my first time using UV resin so I'm probably doing something wrong, but I can't find any answers online. Thanks in advance for any help!
Thank you! I typically wait overnight for the modpodge to dry. Your resin layer is sticky because you’re pbb not curing it enough. It either needs a longer time under the light or you need a stronger light. Usually the yellow tint comes from cheaply manufactured resins. The one I’m using doesn’t yellow at all. Hope this helps!
Love this video!! Just have one question! It says you let gel top coat fully cure before adding the pigment powder, I tried but it doesn’t really stay and then clings to the brush when I try to put the next layer of top coat on. Do you have any tips? Or am I doing this out of order.
Not for this part just the gel top coat. I think it’s because the kit I got is just flakes not pigment flakes 🤦🏽♀️ Have you done this with mica powder before or do you think it will work similarly? I only see darker colors of the chameleon one on Amazon 😩
Make sure you’re using NO WIPE gel top coat. And any pigments or nail powders that can be used for burnishing onto the nail will work with this. Including mica powders. But you’ll get the best result with chrome powders, holo powders, mirror powders etc.
I was getting into this because I used regular 6 plastic and they came out well and wanted to do more. This paper I bought shrank down 80% and not the 20% the plastic I tested was. Womp. Now I have charms that I can glue to my nails haha

Do you have to apply the uv resin/ gel top coat before the 2 part resin if you aren't adding the nail pigments?

At least overnight
