Amazing video Nick! It was a dream of mine to be in a NMeade video back in the day, so to finally be in one is amazing! Getting RR 2/3 and rBC WR was the best things I've ever done in this game, and I can't wait to see what I do over the next couple years! I do have some corrections/things to say about RR: 1. Eli wasn't the 2nd 2/3 done, it was actually by Zoren with his 1:34.4 2. Eli used Phantom in his run because it gives bigger bounces when you wheelie shroom, which gives more chances at clipping. You should definitely make that history of coconut mall glitch wr. I feel like no one really talks about the really old method with the railing from the sand shortcut entry for out of bounds, and this new bullet bike entry had be baffled LOL.
Welcome back! I’m gonna do my usual thing and provide any additional context and insight from a TASer’s perspective! 1:30 Always love to see TASers doing well RTA - shoutouts to SwareJonge on 5th WW 8:33 Always baffles me that TF 2/3 has been done RTA - being able to drive a full lap at an exact pace is just so crazy I’m impressed by anyone who can do it 9:20 If you’re interested in how the new shortcut works, a box clip is done from the earlier conveyor, then an OOB bounce is performed off the solid OOB to get back to the track. Solid OOB only respawns you if you’re within its detection region for 3 frames, so here we can avoid the OOB timer counting down all the way to 0 by leaving its side edge before 3 frames are up. It saves so much because those box cycles are offset to the usual ones. And it cuts off more than the main cut too, which is why it’s used in the flap TAS. 12:05 Knowing how inconsistent the edges of the track on MC are, it really goes to show how incredible the WR is looking at how well the turns are taken 13:57 Yeah this WR is probably the one I’m most impressed by. You don’t see low trick tech like this in any other one afaik, it’s just so reminiscent of TASes. CM NG is just beautiful to watch. There’s even a TAS competition happening on CM right now… 👀 19:39 Justin finding right route detach happened in January 2022 22:02 You got the 13 year figure right, it’s just that it was March 2009 to March 2022 27:10 You are not alone. To this day, I don’t believe that the HWG ultra method exists, and I found the horizontal wall! (Maybe that’s part of it…) As always, I will not talk about this without mentioning how this strat was found! Ejay and I were having a friendly competition trying to get every ultra shortcut before the other, and I was trying KC using the barrel roll method justin had just discovered, got a wallclip nowhere near the height I wanted, and then accidentally landed on the horizontal wall, passing through to sea floor. I actually had a school trip the morning after and had decided to spend “just 5 more minutes” attempting the barrel roll clip. Good thing I did! 31:20 It really is nice to see when a track has almost reached its limit, though it’s hilarious that a player is doing it several years ahead of everyone else. It really goes to show how broken MT is that there are enough TAS strats for the no turnskip TAS (2:11) to still be over 2 seconds faster than the turnskip WR (2:13), and then that is another 2 seconds faster than 2nd WW (2:15)! 33:20 Don’t wanna be the erm ackshually guy but the term for that is “floor ejection”! I think MT is the textbook example of why looking for easier alternatives to optimal strats is so important! Benny finding the easier alternative to the tree clip made 3/3 ultra possible! 34:44 Oh hey look another example! I tried for years trying to find a semi consistent way to get the “TAS shroom”, and all it took was hopping HAHA 35:50 Omg omg I made a TAS here I can actually speak from experience! Yes, the boost ramp is used (thank you Reo and Luke), and yes RFH is used, but recently Justin found it was possible to do with a frame-perfect QM-precise single hop, which is RTA viable but not WR viable, when you consider how much inconsistency this track already has to offer. 37:01 EJAY B IS THE REAL NUMERO UNO 39:35 That trick is just too low I’m sorry this is not good analysis but it is 😮 42:00 I think it’s funny that somehow this track seems to actively try to prevent players from getting subs and then at some point just gives in (zeke was the only 2:20 for ages and then suddenly many more people got it, and now 2:19 is the barrier) 46:26 God that was so close to a last turn fail 48:40 Really curious whether shooting star will ever be pushed a bit more against flame flyer because afaik it IS faster to use shooting star than flame flyer with RTA strats 50:35 Oh yeah... 3/3... about that.. the TAS community actually knew about Phantom being easier to get airtime for ODB clips since not long after the new strat for RR came out, and it's down to the poor but (hopefully) mending relationship between the TAS and RTA communities that this information was unable to be communicated, leaving the RTA community to have to discover that completely independently. As a result, 3/3, instead of being done already, will be happening a whole lot later. 51:20 Even though Phantom is easier, and will be the reason for 3/3 happening, Shooting Star is faster, so in the (far) future will probably be the vehicle holding WR again after many years of Phantom (or maybe it'll be sooner idk) That's nitro tracks done, I'll continue with the retro tracks in a reply to this comment!

Don't think they go unnoticed! I haven't played MKWii proper in a long while (mostly been a spectator, think this might be my 2nd or 3rd year watching this series?), but your love for this game is contagious and shown in full display here. Been a long time coming 1:01:13 Honestly this was the reaction I was most look forward to 😂😂 Sosis’ reign here is one of my absolute favorites, especially because this run is the final one still standing from the 2010s decade; the last time set before the world changed forever. It holds a special place to me because I’ve changed so much as a person since then. From a 6th/7th grader playing Mario Kart and Fortnite with my friends to a junior in high school stressing about SATs. In a way, this run serves as a time capsule for me. I still remember watching the world record review series that month and not thinking much of it, but now the run is near and dear to me. It’ll be bittersweet to me when it gets inevitably beaten because I hold a lot of nostalgia for this run, but, I congratulate whomever that future runner may be. This record definitely belongs in the most iconic series (if you’re even still continuing that lol)
Yeah, plus, his reign started started in August 2017 making it even older. One good way to scale how old Sosis' WR is in my head is to think about how it was just a week after Super Mario Maker 2 released, which feels like an eternity ago now. And of course, several months before covid-19 and a new decade

Sometimes you'd take a bit to mention whose time trial on display and idk I think it'd be a nice change. Ofc you've been doing this for years so you know what's best, and it's worth mentioning I'm hella nitpicking as well. Overall amazing video bro 💪

If you're looking for ways to improve, only suggestion/criticism I have is that it'd be nice to have the wr holder's name on screen. Sometimes you'd take a bit to mention whose time trial on display and idk I think it'd be a nice change. Ofc you've been doing this for years so you know what's best, and it's worth mentioning I'm hella nitpicking as well. Overall amazing video bro 💪
