In regards to his remarks about travel, not only is travel expensive, it has become a huge hassle, and I'm referring to pre-covid. Also, the popular destinations are way more crowded than 20 years ago, and there are often more tourists than natives. In addition, tourists yammering on obnoxious cell phones are everywhere. It's gotten to the point, I'd rather stay home and admire my beautiful garden and the fantastic ocean vista here in CA. P.S.: I also find it amazing that air travel takes as long or longer than 60 years ago! Nothing has really advanced since the birth of the jet age. What other industry has been so stagnant? I can't think of any.
With the exception of supersonic travel, jet planes have not been flying faster than before. Supersonic travel, on the other hand, has been too cost prohibitive and with the demise of the Concorde, it was not sustainable.
I love California, the ocean, the redwood forests, the mountains, theme parks in LA, vineyards in Napa and Sonoma. I can see why you feel you never need to leave... but your description of travel makes me think you've never done it well. It sounds like you go to overrun tourist traps, and a lot of folks don't find that fun. Maybe you need to try some off the beaten track spots.
@@RaymondHng It was not the cost -- but safety issues -- that caused the demise of the Concorde. In fact, the last flight ended in a horrific accident. I believe there will be a restart of supersonic travel in the not too distant future.
@@Dublin90210 You accurately describe the advantages of living in CA (I live in the northern half of the state). A drawback is that traveling is longer w/more hassle due its location on the west coast of the USA. My two favorite countries are France and Italy which are long hauls from the SF Bay Area. And you are correct that these countries are crowded with tourists for much of the year. I did enjoy trips to Ireland, Peru, Austria and other places where there are more locals and less tourists, but overall, traveling has become less fun. I much prefer road trips in my native state. I'll be headed to Yosemite next month to see the spectacular effects of a massive Winter!

I disagree. Most people don't travel because they get caught up in their work and the mundane aspects of their lives. Others simply lack the curiosity or are too lazy, or don't plan and some don't even ever think of getting a passport. Most Americans without exception could for example travel to Mexico or Canada or Puerto Rico.

People aren't afraid to travel, they just don't have as much money as Andrew McCarthy does. Stop calling people bigots because they don't have money to travel. I liked AC before this now he just comes across as a travel snob.
Ppl ARE afraid, though. There are Americans who have enough money to travel, but they choose to travel only within the U.S. My mother won't admit it, but she's afraid to travel to Ireland. Her mother was from Ireland, and she always wanted to go so badly. She didn't have the money to go throughout her entire life. Now she does have the money, but she makes excuses not to go. I think she's afraid she won't fit in, or maybe that she doesn't deserve to go or something. Even though she always wanted to go. It's sad. ...Andrew does come off as a bit of a travel snob, though. In a different interview, he said not having enough money is just an excuse, bc he can travel for less money that he spends to live at home. Ok, millionaire. I'm sure you can. 🙄
but if he really wants to find out his real past it would actually be the middle east because the irish are descendants of the Persians modern day iran
He was absolutely drop dead gorgeous in the 80s, and he still kind of has his boyish good looks.
He has NO RIGHT to still look so goddamned gorgeous!!! Grrrrrr.
Oh yeah he does not age.. lol..
This is sweet. Thank you for posting this :) I like him very much.

Pretty in Pink is my favorite movie
He's sooooo lovely
He is goals. Period.
He aged really well.
He has aged very well, hasn't changed at all. I like the Mark Twain quote "Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness"
Hello Andrew, on the island of Chiloé, Chile, there is a similar place where you can do the same, kind regards from Argentina, big hug.

Yes, it's in the South. Most of my ancestors are from Cork. Nearly all are from the ancient Kingdom of Munster which is the very heart of Ireland.
