    There really is no need to apologize for being unable to physically do something. If you want to explain that is your choice. But it really isn't anyones business. And let's be honest who cares how anyone pronounces things ,as long as you can make yourself understood you're good. And individual differences are fun, I like listening to you just the way you are

      Agreed. And I'm unclear on the g thing. My ears are not detecting any g anomalies. What g thing are people even hearing. A mystery.

      @the3rdperspective 2 месяца назад +7

      @@EdwinaGolden "spreen" instead of spring, "geenam" instead of gingham. I feel badly she felt she had to address it though! I thought it was probably just a difference in accent. We all knew what she meant.

      i totally agree. and as a non native speaker i love hearing different Version of pronounciation.

  • @RedDrowned
    @RedDrowned 2 месяца назад +259

    Linguistics student here! What you describe seems to happen only once G is preceeded by an N. This is not a pronunciation anomaly, but rather the natural need your vocal aparatus has to make things easier to pronounce, so the G and N in spriNG and giNG melt together into one new sound. This kind of merge of two sounds into one is called a diphtong, this specific one (N+G) is very common in germanic languages... and, surprise surprise, English is a germanic language.
    TLDR, don't worry!

    • @avr7120
      @avr7120 2 месяца назад +10

      thats funny that its considered easier because in german some people pronounce a g after an n even when there is none, especially when its borrowed words like cousin and bonbon

    • @lowercasesncapitals795
      @lowercasesncapitals795 2 месяца назад +34

      Linguist number 2 here - it’s called G-dropping. It’s common in many dialects of American English and very emblematic of the Chicanx English dialect of SoCal. Since Alexa grew up in SoCal, like me, where Chicanx/latinx communities represent a majority of the population, it totally makes sense that she drops her G’s.

    This is my spring and summer thrift wishlist so far:

    - Crochet Top

I know it might not be everyone's taste, but I have been loving quarter zip sweaters thrifted from the men's rack. They are so cozy. I have had chest and back acne for 16 years (I'm 27 now). Creams, antibiotics, birth control, accutane, etc., and it never fully went away. I totally get it. It can take such a big toll on self-esteem, especially in outfits that show it. Currently, differin and the Neutrogena stubborn acne body wash are keeping it under control. I'm trying to go into Spring/Summer with a more confident mindset to wear what I really want to wear. Always wearing t-shirts in the summer is NOT fun!

I am a long time watcher of your channel! this unrelated to the content of this video, but if you are ever comfortable posting a video about your struggles with ocd, anxiety, etc, that would be much appreciated. (only if you feel comfortable broaching the subject of course!) as someone who is known for their “sunny” disposition, it makes me feel much less alone knowing that even the most positive people in online spaces (like yourself) can struggle with their mental health. love you so much!

Why would I get mad at myself for it? I definitely get where you're coming from, Alexa. Those people who make fun of you for it just have nothing else better to do. I also used to have really bad acne on my back (some on my chest as a teen). And I absolutely love backless tops and dresses, it kills me because even though I've gotten it mostly under control, I am a little insecure about it, especially the dark marks 😢 It got much better after hormonal contraceptives, retinoids and benzoyl peroxide but I still get significant breakouts around my period (fun hormones). I just love how backless or strappy tops look tho

    For shoes: a classic, simple (think Korean clean girl style) white sneaker, with either white ankle socks or, if you want to make the shoe more coquette or girly, those cute sheer, frilly, lace socks. You're right about black shoes being too much, and a loafer or high-top sneaker being too bulky. The simple sneaker with interesting socks (or even laces, actually!) is a good mix.

    12: 35 I feel thisss I have seemingly every version of black shoes and most of the time it's a slay but other times it feels like an after thought and just like you said like brings down the fit but it's hard to pick shoes in other tones?? I think I'm just comfy with black and need to take a risk next time I'm thrifting lol

    I noticed before that you pronounce gingham differently, but I just thought that was just the way gingham was said in an American accent 😂. ❤ from Spain

    With frilly dresses I would wear Birkenstocks or white tennis sneakers. Or go full girly with light colored sandals or slingback heels 🤍

    I feel like the fruit patterned trend 🫣🫣 you could just shop or order or thrift pattern like that and see it yourself lol tbh I wanna try and make my own 90s midi skirt and maybe a matching top if my aunt would teach me 🫣🫣

    Hi Alexa! I've found you here recently and I'm really enjoying your videos, thank you for them! 🌸 About the good shoes with the cottage core dresses: have a look for a brand called Juuri! It's a barefoot sandal brand, where you can choose ribbon colour, structure & how you tie them, so you have hundreds of styles from one shoe! It's definitely something for summer, but oh my, they're so cute! And I love the sustainability/versatility idea behind them. 😊

    12:46 maybe like a victorian/edwardian boot that is midtone brown. I feel like it fits the vibe a lot. But personally I haven't had luck finding those shoes in thrifts store either since it's pretty unique looking haha

    Alexa, did you check on Etsy yet for your quilted vests? You’ll find SO so many cute ones❣️🙂

    That quilted vest would be so easy to make. Too bad Jenna is very busy or she could help!
    (1) Find a vest pattern. The styles you showed look very vintage; you may even be able to find them at a thrift store. Even a jacket pattern would work: just don’t use the sleeves. You can also trace a pattern from a vest or jacket you already have that has the shape you’d want on your quilted vest.
    (2) Buy cotton fabrics you like; there would be many great options at quilting shops and other fabric stores. Also get some cotton batting. The pieces should be big enough to cut out your pattern from when layered. Prewash the fabrics, air dry. Batting will have specific instructions (sometimes soaking then air drying).
    (3) Sandwich fabric, batting, fabric; baste or safety pin the layers. Draw on a quilting pattern in chalk. Machine stitch.
    (4) Cut out your pattern pieces matching motif and direction.
    (5) Sew pieces together at sides and shoulders.
    (6) Make binding strips in a matching or contrasting fabric (see YT videos for quilt binding). Use these first to cover the inside seams, then sew it around the edges of the vest, and finally make the ties out of it.
    Would make a great video or series of videos and you get a fully customized vest!

    I’m 35 wish I could figure out what my style is! I wear scrubs 5 days a week, my weekends are spent in leggings and band tees. No idea what to wear when I “go out” lol 😅
