I do find it funny that Coastal Grandma and Old Money are considered separate aesthetics when they are both just preppy style. Like down to the historical/cultural influence.

I think my biggest issue with the “that girl” situation is that to achieve it you had to be thin and white and have lots of money and it’s way more exclusionary than most other aesthetics. I love karina gracias take on it & how she makes it inclusionary!

I've been missing so much cores lately, didn't even know about half of these. 🤣
And now on top of loving cottagecore, I fell in love with the coquette girl core thing, it's so soft and feminine, without being too "weird", and I feel like mashing it with some aspects of ballet core can create something wearable even in everyday life, without looking like I'm in a costume.

Though some of it still rubs me the wrong way even now,, I think something about old money/ivy aesthetic just feels classist/elitist? Idk I know that the aesthetic is separate these days but personally that's what I always think about so it irks me. But then again I like goblin core too and some ppl have been saying that that is rooted in antisemitism (still have to look into that), so there's that I guess?

I feel like I've seen you wear outfits I would classify as coquette so I found it funny that you almost ranked it lower! My favorite part about it as an aesthetic is it takes inspiration from styles like balletcore and royalcore and gives it a more wearable almost y2k twist. 🌸 Alexa: These rankings are great exercises. 💗Appreciate how you're educating me all about the latest aesthetics, & also sharing how they personally fall for you in favor. 😉You've given me lots of food for thought, & inspired me to order them for myself.
In my head, there are fashion pure bloods & mutts. I'm envious of women who practically knew their KEY AESTHETIC out of the womb👶. Those whose fashion tastes have remained rather consistent & focused throughout their entire life span w/few bumps. Sadly, that's not me.
Athough I have acrued quite a bit of elegant, classic gear after having worked a couple of decades in Corporate America. The modern minimalist in me will always love the simple lines, silhouettes, & structure. There's nothing more pleasing than a matching trouser or skirt suit. Those delicious dark, power neutrals. Outside of the office, I'm finding this all can be a tad too formal, confining, & boring.
Plus, our usual scorching desert 🏜 climate in the SF Valley, combined w/my change of life🥵, dictates a lot of what I can & cannot tolerate. Love blazers, but they're not a year round thing for me. Sometimes it's only possible to wear one when visiting the West Side or inside a temperature controlled bldg. Therefore, I'm having to break up suits into more wearable components.
🏸Sport Lux. There's nothing sweeter than activewear w/moisture💧wicking properties in my book. A breathable cotton mix is positively dreamy for me. Liking the high contrast of corpwear mixed w/down market (i.e., chunk sole loafers or white trainers; a long underwear top, a silky LS runner's top, a razorback tank, a graphic tee, a zippered elevated hoodie, & so on).
🤔Overall, been more of a magpie about aesthetics. Always drawn to fresh & new stimulation. Love variety. Occasion dressing (work, church, concert, date, movie, museum, amusement park, festive, & so on). Today I feel goth or grunge, tomorrow romantic, the next day preppy. My personality has probably always leaned too girlish for my own good, so I try to temper that in style in fear of looking foolish or caricature.
In addition to lux sport. There's also a thread of avant garde, theatricality, & glamour. There's a strong underlying rebellion that deplores being pigeonholed into anything. This has all led to a 💔 fragmented wardrobe😖.
As your elder👩‍🦳, I can confirm that our style is ever evolving. Coming to know what delights you😁, but you still won't wear🤣 (for any number of reasons) is an important part of the puzzle 🧩.

And lemme tell you the way I GASPED when you mentioned goblincore. Even if it isn't for you it's just so fun to hear someone talk about it.
You showed a lot of skirts, which is very fairy core, but I think goblincore more corduroy and pants. LOOOOOTS of layering with vests and jackets and crazy amount of jewelry/trinkets. I do incorporate some skirts into mine tho. I think a big part of it is how androgynous the aesthetic is (not saying guys can't wear skirts tho ☺️)
Thank you for perceiving my fashion obsession 💕

because you are talking about a broader scale of aesthetics, i wished you would rate them more by how you like the elements and less on if you would wear them, if that makes sense. I have so much love for styles of clothing, like goth and fairy core, even if I wouldn’t wear them in my day-to-day life.

Personally I love balletcore because (as you can probably tell from my username) I am an aspiring dancer who lives and breathes ballet lol. But I totally get why for some people it's not their style!

You could do a video styling all of the aesthetics in your bottom tier and then call it something like "styling aesthetics that are not my style" :)

I totally agree about the old money aesthetic - just not for me, even though I mostly wear neutrals and I like some of the elements on their own. I just couldn't wear a whole outfit like that unironically and with all of those logos on show - it just looks boring and over the top to me (not to mention that old money people don't dress like that, but ok).

I wish people would include the grunge side of y2k into their opinions of the 90s, my mom was a huge flannel kid and that was a big part of that era, whereas the girls with money had the bright colored tops n stuff in the later 90s

I have like two different styles depending on if it’s spring/summer or fall/winter lol. I blend VSCO and cottage core for warm times and like… I dabble in some light academia/old money for cold? But then like all the time I’m inspired by scandi design and fashion so 😂

The only things I have to say is you got Y2K and parts of mall goth wrong. I don't blame you because the internet (especially tiktok and pinterest) changes the meanings of aesthetics and dismisses the whole point of them for some reason

I went properly into depth on mall goth in my dedicated video on it, but yeah I had weirdly a hard time finding the right photos for both of those and kind of rushed it so they don’t really represent the styles perfectly 😭

Based on the history of this country, the origin of most “old money” and it’s link to the slave trade, free and low immigrant labor I do not particularly like the “old money” aesthetic. I am in the field of education and do however enjoy dark and light “academia” outfits. Since we tend to wear that automatically!! I enjoy your videos.

It’s probably best to know the history behind an aesthetic before diving in. Another example is Art Hoe, which was originally part of POC identity. It’s inclusive, but there’s still issues of whitewashing. The academia aesthetics are definitely rooted in western elite class institutions, though most people dress preppy because they are just comfortable in the style.

cottagecore yessss it's so pretty. it's def one of the biggest influences in my usual styles.
ok honestly egirl is STILL one of my #1 styles it's sooo cute. I was an emo/goth kid and I feel like egirl is just the modern version of that but I LOVE it?? I could 100% wear it forever.
I've never heard of goblincore being the dark version of fairycore but I kinda love it?? omg
    mall goth my beloved

Avant basic is now outdated for some people? I think that in my mind I'm still living in the world when outdated is something that you wear 10 years ago xd It scares me a little how fast fashion change nowadays. On the other hand, maybe aesthetic is something that people won't change every season, like I understand trying different styles, but buying more and more things is not the best thing for the environment. Anyway, I love avant basic, also art hoe and granola, also weird (Grimes style), probably I finally found my aesthetics.
